Heather Ahnen, 49, had finished a nightshift at Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Sarasota, and driven quarter of a mile when the water became too high to continue.

She abandoned her car and had to walk and started walking - despite having a broken ankle DUE TO AN EARLIER ACCIDENT.

The water was initially ankle deep but soon it reached chest height and Heather was concerned for her safety, on August 4, 2024.

After walking half a mile, Heather arrived home and luckily her house was not flooded.

Heather, from Sarasota, Florida, said: "I couldn't see the road at all.

"I couldn't see what was in the water or what was floating around me.

"The water was very dirty - it got so deep it go to my chest."

After the storm hit, Florida's Governor Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency for 61 counties across the state.
