00:00Hello everyone, my name is Paul Branson and today I'll be reviewing this limited time
00:08only Ruffles KFC Original Recipe Chicken.
00:13And they came out with one before, I think it was called the Zinger Spicy Chicken.
00:18And KFC, it was Ruffles, a Zinger Crunchy Spicy Chicken.
00:24So KFC, when I saw this yesterday, I was like, I already reviewed it.
00:29And when I looked at it, going, no I didn't, they came out with a second limited edition
00:33one.
00:34So they teamed up with Ruffles, saying we want to bring our Original Recipe Chicken
00:37into a potato chip.
00:40So that's what they did.
00:41So this is a limited time one, so I said I have to try this one.
00:44I tried the other one, but just like the last one, they had a 20% coupon on the back.
00:51So the other one had a 20% coupon as well.
00:55So in a lot of ways, KFC must be hurting.
00:58Because I was born in the 70s, and I remember the chicken was really good in the 70s and
01:0280s.
01:03In the earlier 90s, it started to taste kind of greasy and not as good.
01:08So over time, it didn't taste as good as it originally did.
01:13And I think that they're losing sales.
01:15Because it's like eating a bucket of grease now.
01:18Like even with the 20% coupon, and trying these Original Recipe Chips, even so if I
01:23liked the chips, I dealt very much, I would go to KFC again.
01:28Just because of the basis of my experience in the past.
01:31What they have to really do is get the Original Recipe and make it the way he made it when
01:37he sold it.
01:38Now, I've heard variations.
01:41I know that he didn't have a lot of money.
01:44And he worked really hard.
01:45But he had this recipe for chicken.
01:48I heard one variation where online it says he sold it door to door.
01:52And people were enjoying it.
01:54So he wanted to sell it at a store.
01:56And the store would allow him to sell the chicken for free rent if they sold their products.
02:03I heard it might have been a gas station, or an oil station, or something like that.
02:08I'm not really sure.
02:09So first, he was selling it door to door.
02:12Then he was selling it in a store for rent free.
02:14And then when he was 64 years old, he sold it to a company.
02:21And the company made it into stores or restaurants.
02:24I'm not sure if he did it first, Colonel Sanders.
02:28But when he sold it at the age of 64, he got, I think it was $1 million to $2 million for
02:35it.
02:36And that was a lot of money back then.
02:37But he also stayed at the spokesperson, commercials and all, promoting his chicken.
02:44And there was some sort of lawsuit, too.
02:46So I'm not sure what it was, that the company wasn't quite following the recipe to the T.
02:52I think one time, Colonel Sanders was saying it tasted like cardboard when he sold it to
02:56this company later on.
02:58But he died in 1980.
03:01And his legacy did live on.
03:03But his taste of the original recipe, apparently, it's undebatable.
03:08It was good.
03:10Then it declined.
03:12And now they're trying to promote it by various chip variations with coupons on the back to
03:18get people back at KFC.
03:20That's how I see it.
03:21But again, though, I could be wrong.
03:23But he struggled all his life, working hard.
03:27He really worked hard.
03:28And he didn't become a millionaire until he was 65.
03:33So it just shows you, work hard.
03:37Work hard is very important.
03:39And keep at it.
03:40Keep at your dream.
03:42And just go for it.
03:44Anyway, I'm now going to try this.
03:47I'm still looking at this now.
03:48So bucket of flavor.
03:50We're bringing the flavor of KFC's famous original recipe chicken to the iconic ridges
03:55of Ruffles potato chips.
03:56We're keeping the 11 herbs and spices top secret.
04:00But are sharing KFC's iconic taste in this limited time.

04:05And I also was told that people who knew the recipe, not the full recipe, but even a little
04:11bit of it, they had to sign a waiver.
04:13So if they ever say anything, they can get sued and thrown into jail.
04:18That's what I heard.
04:19So these are things I heard.

04:23I'm going to try this now.
04:24It says, calories are 270, fat is 23%, trans fat is 10%, fiber is 7, sugar is 2, zero cholesterol,
04:35sodium, potassium is 13, calcium is 2, and iron is 6.
04:41Special selected potatoes, vegetable oil seasoning, protein, spices, herbs, they're not going to
04:48tell you the exact herbs, garlic powder, yeast, abstract, onion powder, contains milk.

05:03Honestly, it smells like KFC.
05:05It actually, wow.
05:08It really smells like the old days.
05:10It brought back a whole bunch of memories when my dad brought a bucket of KFC home.

05:16Wow.
05:17I don't get this if I went into KFC today.
05:20If I did, I'd be buying the chicken.
05:22Okay.
05:23I've got to taste these chips now.
05:34Not quite taste like the chicken.
05:36The smell does, but not quite.
05:47I do like it though, but it's not quite the taste as KFC.

05:55I wish they were a bit stronger, like the smell.

06:12Like when I open this up, that smell reminded me of a whole bunch of things from my childhood.

06:26The smell is actually better.
06:28Well, the taste is good.
06:29It's just it's not as strong.
06:30I would have preferred it to be just as strong as me smelling it.

06:45I would give it a 6.5.

06:53I just wish it was a bit more stronger, like the smell is.
06:56Overall, I do like them.
06:58But it is sad that KFC has declined.
07:01And his legacy kind of declined with it.
07:04Because if they stuck with the original recipe, there'd be a lot more people going.
07:09And they do, but I just feel like I'm eating a bucket of grease.

07:13Overall, maybe I will go back to KFC and use that coupon.
