Both Democrats and Republicans Agree That Democracy Is at Stake in the 2024 Election, But They Differ on the Reasons Why

A new AP-NORC poll finds that around 3 in 4 American adults believe the 2024 presidential election is vital to the future of U.S. democracy. Democrats have a higher level of intensity about the issue, with over half saying the election is "extremely important" compared to about 40% of independents and Republicans. Democrat voters view Trump as a threat if re-elected due to statements about being a "king or dictator." Republicans view Biden as a threat due to claims of abusing executive power and "weaponizing" the Justice Department.
