00:00Genting, Malaysia, Berhad has been found liable for the negligence of an employee which led
00:06to the death of a Chinese national five years ago.
00:10The Kuala Lumpur High Court has ordered Genting, First World Hotels and Resorts India in Berhad
00:15and its housekeeping assistant to pay more than RM700,000 in damages to the deceased
00:20widow Wang Cuilin.
00:22In June 2019, Wang lost contact with her husband, Xianning, who was later found dead in a room
00:28at First World Hotel.
00:30A post-mortem concluded that Xianning had died of suffocation.
00:34Two foreign nationals, a Sri Lankan and a Pakistani, were suspected of causing Xianning's
00:39death, although they were never charged.
00:41In a written judgment, Judicial Commissioner Raja Ahmad Mohsanuddin Shahraja Mohsan said
00:47the hotel's then-housekeeping assistant had given the suspects unauthorized access
00:51to Xia's room without verifying whether they were its rightful occupants.
00:55He said the proper course was for the assistant to direct the perpetrators to the hotel's
