00:02and also the fact we've seen in the past three games
00:04there is some bounce in the surface
00:06early on, so McGuire on his way
00:08straight away round the wicket
00:10straight away into the ribcage
00:12of Saurabh Ganguly, the line is good
00:14he's got three slips
00:16in place
00:18and we have all the makings here
00:20of a very good match
00:22to come
00:24let's look on to Ian Chappell
00:26Morning Ravi and hello to all of our viewers
00:28I must correct you on one thing
00:30they've got almost all their players back from injury
00:32they are missing Shane Warne
00:34and I'm sure they
00:36will always miss Shane Warne
00:38but probably the Australians would be delighted
00:40to see these conditions
00:42with a bit of bounce in the pitch because it means
00:44that they can utilise their full pace
00:46attack and they've done exactly that
00:50this is a top class attack
00:54it's going to be Shane Warne missing but otherwise
00:56Lespy, Brett Lee
00:58and Glenn McGrath
01:00playing in the team together
01:02also got all rounders
01:04in the form of Shane Lee
01:08Ian Harvey as well
01:16I think as soon as they saw a bit of bounce in the pitch
01:18the Australians would have been relieved
01:20and that's the reason for the three pace bowlers
01:26the first one is on the board for India
01:34if they'd seen conditions like the subcontinent
01:36then obviously they would be thinking
01:38we'll really miss Shane Warne
01:40as it is, they will certainly miss him
01:42but it gives them the opportunity
01:44to play Lee
01:46McGrath and Gillespie
01:48and that is a daunting
01:50pace attack and I think as soon as they saw
01:52a bit of bounce here in the
01:54Nairobi Chimpana pitch
01:56they would have been thinking
01:58we can go with Glenn McGrath and Brett Lee
02:00with the new ball
02:02and that means they can go both barrels
02:04at India's two most important
02:06batsmen, Sachin Tendulkar
02:08who's come on strike now
02:10and Sourav Ganguly
02:14it will be interesting to see the tactics the Indians adopt
02:16whether they're going to be aggressive
02:20or positive
02:24straight away looking for the pull
02:26Tendulkar
02:28well that's a good sign for India
02:30it means that he's in a very aggressive frame of mind
02:32this is always
02:34a great challenge
02:36Glenn McGrath versus Sachin Tendulkar
02:38they've had some terrific battles
02:40just getting the underneath edge
02:42on that one but
02:44the important thing is
02:46the frame of mind
02:48now Steve Moore
02:50is just telling Brett Lee
02:52stay on the rope there at fine leg
02:54in case there's a top edge
02:56obviously that underneath edge
02:58is
03:02has caused some sort of damage
03:04with Tendulkar
03:06but he's got his gloves off here
03:08we'll have to take a look if the ball
03:10hit him in any way
03:12he's
03:14shaking his right hand there
03:22he's just
03:26pointing towards the elbow
03:30once again very positive frame of mind
03:32he was looking for the pull
03:38well that's the reason why
03:40I thought he'd got an underneath edge but it's hit him on the
03:42point of the right elbow
03:44he's got the guard on the left elbow
03:46that's why
03:48he was immediately
03:50bringing his arm
03:52the Australians have
03:54I don't know whether they've sort of
03:56decided to set a little bit of a trap
03:58you've only got Steve Moore at square leg
04:00and then you've got Brett Lee at fine leg
04:02no one at mid on and maybe that's
04:04put the thought in Tendulkar's mind
04:06there's plenty of runs there on the on
04:08side and perhaps that's the reason why
04:10Steve Moore was doing it
04:12to try and encourage Tendulkar
04:14to play the pull shot early
04:16certainly did that
04:18and it's come off that right elbow
04:22it's interesting feel for Tendulkar
04:24three slips there's no gully
04:28so if Glenn McGrath
04:30does decide to pitch it up
04:32then there are runs for the taking on the on side especially middle
04:34and leg
04:36see they're missing the bat kissing the elbow
04:40and that might have hurt because
04:42this ball is hard and new just
04:44two balls bold with it in fact four balls
04:48everything seems to be ok now
04:58these two teams met
05:00in the ICC knockout in Dhaka
05:02in the last tournament
05:04India won that game
05:06since then
05:08Australia want to win the World Cup
05:10playing some excellent cricket
05:18it's one for no loss
05:32I think there's a problem here
05:34because we have it as five balls being bold
05:38and Glenn McGrath knows it
05:42he tells the umpire that I have one delivery
05:44left
05:46it's an interesting insight
05:48into the mind of Glenn McGrath
05:50because a lot of bowlers with Tendulkar at the other end
05:52would be quite happy to be shortchanged
05:54by the umpire
05:56but Glenn McGrath is saying hang on I've got one more
05:58and that tells you that he's keen to get it the world's
06:00best batsman
06:02probably he had already planned what deliveries
06:04he's going to bowl early on
06:08the field was changing
06:10Buckner checked with the scorers
06:12and one more ball left and McGrath on his way
06:16good delivery
06:18came back off the scene
06:20India won for no loss
06:32so the Indian team the same
06:34that played in the first match against Kenya
06:36Shahbaz Kamble
06:38Yuvraj Singh
06:40Robin Singh
06:42that's the batting line up
06:44and the three fast bowlers
06:46and the specialist spinner Kamble
06:48it's a good start by
06:50Glenn McGrath
06:52and sharing the new ball with him
06:54Pretley
06:56arguably the fastest
06:58bowler in world cricket at the moment
07:00he should enjoy these conditions
07:02especially this track early on
07:04it has a bit of bounce
07:06and if you hit the deck we've seen some seam movement
07:08as well
07:10Sarav Ganguly on strike
07:12two slips in place
07:20it's interesting that
07:22Steve Waugh had three slips
07:24for Glenn McGrath but only two
07:26for Pretley
07:28I guess that's a matter of
07:30probably respect
07:32for the senior fast bowler
07:34and also the accuracy
07:36of Glenn McGrath
07:38I think
07:40the plan with McGrath and Tendulkar will be
07:42to leave that big gap on the
07:44onside but then McGrath will
07:46hammer away at his normal line and length
07:48which is just around off stump
07:50going away
07:54and walking up some pace
07:56here
08:04a feeling that one still bounced a bit more
08:06than he would have liked
08:10the Australians have certainly got
08:12Ganguly hopping, you'll see
08:14here both feet are off the ground
08:16that's
08:18never a good sign
08:20particularly when it's an opening batsman
08:22if it's a number 11 or so, a number 10 or 11
08:24not quite so bad
08:26but it means that
08:28probably means that he's expecting
08:30the ball to come a bit quicker than what it actually is
08:32line was good there too
08:34short delivery
08:37straight away some
08:39aggression shown here by
08:41Brett Lee, low ball
08:43signal, obviously going over the shoulder
08:45of the batsman
08:47Steve Buckner
08:49and David Sheppard
08:51the two umpires
08:53well this is
08:55definitely a bouncer with a message
08:57the Australians
08:59saying they're quite happy to concede
09:01the odd run
09:03with the bouncer going above the shoulder
09:06they want to send a message to
09:08Ganguly and just to make sure
09:10Brett Lee had the long follow through
09:12on right down near the batsman
09:20one thing for sure
09:22if the ball is pitched up
09:24Ganguly is going to have a go
09:29very important that the Indians
09:31come out with a very positive frame of mind
09:33because they're up against
09:35a top class team
09:39there's no point
09:41playing the waiting game against them
09:57it's just a thing in a knockout competition
09:59you want to get in there
10:01and do some damage early on
10:03and I was saying earlier
10:05you look for the teams that have
10:07got game breakers at the top of their list
10:09now I'm talking about
10:11batting list and bowling list so Australia
10:13are well endowed there, they've got Glenn McGrath
10:15and Brett Lee who I would put
10:17both of them in the category of game breakers
10:19and then you've got Adam Gilchrist
10:21at the top of the batting order
10:23so Australia well endowed
10:25as far as game breakers are concerned
10:27at the top of their orders
10:32that went through very quickly
10:34no signal from the umpire
10:38that ball was travelling on the way to Gilchrist
10:42watch the carrier
10:44it's good bounce
10:46that's sensible umpiring
10:48just because the batsman missed it
10:50doesn't mean that it wasn't hittable
10:52what it does having game breakers
10:54at the top of your list is it means that
10:56if they really fire
10:58you can win the game in that first
11:0010-15 overs or
11:02you don't actually win the game there but you
11:04have it set up so that
11:06you can canter home to victory
11:08and you don't get into a mad scramble at the end
11:12to the pass point
11:14pass point
11:26six footer loss
11:30pass point
11:48pass point
11:56pass point
12:00so two overs have been golden
12:02they're six for no loss
12:04Tendulkar the man on strike now
12:06Glenn McGrath on his way
12:10that's in the air
12:12he could be out
12:14in fact it's gone all the way
12:18a strong shot from Tendulkar
12:22and I would imagine
12:24he would consider himself lucky to get away with this
12:26pass point
12:28pass point
12:32it was a wild shot from
12:34Tendulkar and the interesting thing is
12:36Gillespie misjudged it totally
12:38he thought that he had to come in to take
12:40the catch he was running well inside
12:42the right now you see him backing off
12:44he realises it's carrying a long way
12:46a lot further than he expected
12:48and I think Glenn McGrath
12:50got the biggest shock of all when it went for six
12:52McGrath again
12:56Tendulkar's intent pretty much clear
12:58he's going to take the
13:00attack to the opposition
13:02he's had a magnificent
13:04he has a magnificent
13:06record against the Australians
13:08and he's the one
13:10wicket they want
13:12Ganguly just came down and had a few words
13:14to him, if Sachin's anything
13:16like I am, I'd be telling
13:18Saurav to buzz off, your end's
13:20down there, this is my end
13:22and don't get in my brain, he's got some thoughts
13:24in his mind and that's the way he wants
13:26to operate and you've got to let him play his game
13:30as far as
13:32India are concerned, he's the game breaker
13:34from India's point of view
13:36he's obviously
13:38thought about this
13:44and I'll tell you what
13:46that big gap at mid-on did
13:48suck him in there because he was trying to whack
13:50that one through mid-on
13:52Steve Waugh's plan worked
13:54the only problem was that the ball carried
13:56so far and that's
13:58an indication of how much bounce there is in this pitch
14:00carried so far it cleared the rope
14:04interesting to see the length of Glenn McGrath
14:12by attempting that shot, what he's done
14:14even though it didn't come off the way Tendulkar
14:16would have wanted, at least he sent the message
14:18across to the bowler, you pitch it up
14:20I'm going to get after you
14:24now you have a good contest
14:26because he's a top class
14:28performer, 23.35
14:30183 wickets, great record
14:32in both forms of the game
14:44what McGrath is doing now is just
14:46following him a little wider above something
14:48perhaps he normally would because he
14:50realises that Tendulkar is coming for him
14:52and what he's saying to Tendulkar
14:54is alright you want to come for me
14:56I'm going to make you just fetch it a little bit
14:58particularly if he is looking to hit
15:00McGrath down that
15:02mid-on area, there is no mid-on
15:04fielder and
15:06so McGrath is tempting him
15:08that's a lovely line and just a hint
15:10of a way swing
15:14he's playing on the patience of the batsman
15:16and he goes for the pull, he doesn't quite tame it
15:2012 for no loss India
15:28three men in the ring
15:34now that will be a wide
15:38Tendulkar is just creeping across a little bit
15:40perhaps a bit further
15:42than he realises to the offside
15:44I think Brett Lee
15:46every now and again he'll be just trying to see
15:48if he can hit that leg stump
15:52that one went a bit too far
15:54good decision by umpire Sheppard
15:56after that four was hit in the last
15:58over from Brett Lee by Ganguly
16:00it went in the air just behind point
16:02and Steve Waugh has put a gully fieldsman
16:04in position to try and take a catch
16:06oh
16:12so both teams aware that
16:14in a knockout competition
16:16you can do a lot of damage in those early
16:18overs, obviously from the batting point
16:20of view, if you can hit a few boundaries
16:22and get started
16:24you put the opposition back
16:26on their heels, Steve Waugh realising
16:28that he can get a wicket early
16:30particularly, well it doesn't really matter
16:32you've got two, India's two best batsmen
16:34out there, he'll take either one
16:36obviously, if you ask him for a preference
16:38it would be Tendulkar
16:40but you've got to do some damage early in these
16:42knockout games
16:48nicely behind it on that occasion
16:52so no room offered to the left-hander in this over
16:56he's got an excellent one day record, thirteen hundreds
16:58could average
17:00183 in the World Cup against Sri Lanka
17:02he's got his best
17:12he's got the wonderful gift of timing
17:14Zorav Ganguly
17:16he's probably the best timer in world cricket at the moment
17:18I would think, just such a
17:20sweet timer
17:22and he compliments it with good placement
17:24just squaring off
17:26the left-hander
17:30reminds me a bit
17:32particularly with his offside play
17:34he's a bit like Graham Pollock
17:36the former South African left-hander
17:38round about the same height
17:40he might have been a touch taller than Zorav Ganguly
17:42but he was certainly
17:44bigger built
17:46but he was also a lovely timer
17:48the worst part about fielding for Graham Pollock
17:50was that he couldn't get the ball
17:52the worst part about fielding for Graham Pollock
17:54was that he'd stroke the ball
17:56it didn't look like he'd hit it that hard
17:58and you were always chasing the damn thing
18:00but you never caught up with it
18:02you wasted all that energy trying to pull it back
18:04and it always beat you over the line
18:06Ricky Pointing
18:08that can be a straight inside
18:16pushed at that one
18:18no real foot movement
18:48and it also shows
18:50the confidence he has in the two bowlers
18:52just two men on the onside
18:54for someone like Brett Lee
18:56and his stock delivery is the one that comes
18:58back into the left-hander
19:00so he cannot afford to stray on to
19:02say middle and leg
19:18Just one run in that over, 13 for no loss in there, so 13 for no loss, four overs have
19:37There is absolutely no doubt that Atahu Tendulka's game plan is to take every opportunity that
19:51he sees.
19:52He thinks the ball is there to be belted, and he is going to try and belt it.
19:56And he's also got it in mind that he is going to play some horizontal bat shots, and that
20:02to be because he's seen the pitch seen it there's plenty of bounce there it's an ideal pitch for
20:08horizontal bat shots and Tendulkar made a century as a what about a 19 year old in Perth and Perth
20:14is a pitch where he's got a lot of bounce that's through him the lines good from McGrath here
20:26he's testing the patience of the master batsman
20:33lovely line that's one of Glenn McGrath's great strengths
20:41so Sachin Tendulkar showed in Perth that he could play the horizontal
20:46bat shots he's shown us plenty of other times as well
21:03he's such a dangerous player not too many guys have got the courage of their convictions to
21:20charge when McGrath is smacking down the ground what he's trying to do is unsettle McGrath so
21:26that he varies his length a little bit
21:39this is very good tactics by Tendulkar as long as he can carry it off
21:43because he's probably seen McGrath on a few occasions in the final overs where the batsmen
21:48have got after him and it does cause a variation in his length McGrath then does start to try and
21:54do some different things and that's what Tendulkar is trying to do he's trying to
21:59provoke McGrath and get him a little angry so that his length varies now what can be expected
22:10McGrath steaming in
22:14yeah
22:28well David Hooks the former Australian left-hand batsman he always says that
22:32Steve Waugh misfields one every day well he's had his misfield
22:37and as far as Steve Waugh is concerned it couldn't have come at a worse time because
22:42Tendulkar's just whacked a six and a four the last thing he would have wanted
22:46was to give him a couple more runs
22:50what a start 25 for no loss
23:00that's the score after five overs
23:0625 for no loss
23:10largely
23:15we'll have to wait for the umpire signal here
23:19leg by signal so Tendulkar on strike for the first time to Brett Lee
23:26well already uh Tendulkar's plan has worked a little because after the six and the four the
23:30next ball from McGrath was on leg stump that was the one that he played away and Steve Waugh
23:35misfielded but McGrath hadn't bowled anything on leg stump until that point so the plan has
23:43worked to a degree he he forced McGrath to bowl more at the stumps and that's what he'll want
23:48we want McGrath bowling more at the stumps rather than that line just outside off stump
23:52testing his patience
23:59two sixes already one intentional one not
24:05let's go running
24:14well that'll have just an equal equally frustrating effect on the Australians if
24:19they're going to just work the ball around in between hitting some boundaries and that'll
24:24mean that Steve Waugh then has to think about changing those field placings stick an extra
24:29man across on the the on side that's what you want to be doing in a knockout game you
24:33if you can start dictating the terms and you start making the opposition captain
24:38change his field placings that means you're you're setting the agenda
24:43that's certainly the thing you want to do in a knockout contest
24:51that's got away fine
24:53and into the boundary
24:58so the run's coming thick and fast here for the Indians
25:08that's been his uh his line most of the time to the left-hander that one just
25:13flipping the pad going away too finely before you've got to treat uh knockout contests a bit
25:19like a boxing match there's not too much time for any sparring and uh and having a look at each
25:25other's form get in there and try and deliver the knockout blow really early yes and reputation
25:30should go out of the window very important that you're inhibited
25:38i'm really doing the right thing here he's not trying anything flash
25:41certainly that's one of McGrath's great strengths that he works on the batsman's patience he bowls
25:46that line just outside off stump going away probably just a little wider than uh to tend
25:52or he's probably just a little wider than he is to other players because he knows that
25:56such inbounds are going to happen and he knows that he's going to have to be a little bit more
26:01patient and he knows that he's going to have to be a little bit more patient and he's going to have
26:06he's probably just a little wider than he is to other players because he knows that
26:10such in being a stroke maker is not that patient
26:21yes there's no doubt that McGrath would love to have a crack again at Tendulkar
26:26the thing about great fast bowlers is that they may be hit or dominated for a while
26:32you don't give up keep coming back at you so the contest is always on
26:40but the indians have sent an early message to steve ware here
26:45messages we know you're world champions
26:49we have nothing to lose they're a young side we're going to come out there and play positive
27:01um
27:1031 for no loss
27:32so
27:47welcome back to ESPN's live coverage of the ICC trophy and to the some of the most
27:54breathtaking cricket you will see Saurav Ganguly is on five from 21 balls but all the action
28:00focused at the other end Sachin Tendulkar 19 from 16 balls the stadium and our hearts
28:06going to start buzzing again here is McGrath to Tendulkar
28:12and slightly deep at backward point it's time now to say welcome to another great opening
28:17batsman but i suspect he might have treated this a bit differently to Jeffrey Boycott
28:21morning Harsha morning everybody well there's a match within itself there
28:27Glen McGrath Sachin Tendulkar that's a little match never mind Australia versus India
28:32he decided a session that he's going to attack in i like the australian field placing they've
28:37got two terrific fast bowlers they put three slips in rather than the
28:42normal statutory two they're very aggressive and positive
28:50a couple of things Jeffrey about this morning's play they've just taken it to
28:54a completely different level one as you said the Australian fast bowlers they came out firing and
28:59Brett Lee his third ball was a bouncer knowing fully well it would be called a noble so they
29:04come out full of aggression but Sachin Tendulkar has come out of the game plan as well and he's
29:08he's come out convinced that he's going to attack and take the bowling to the take the
29:12attack to the opposition and you really cannot get better cricket than this this is cricket
29:18the very highest order well it's a it's a competition within the competition it's really
29:24about Sachin and McGrath he's not easy to get after isn't McGrath very difficult bowler
29:30one slips gone out to mid-on that's a first blow to Tendulkar
29:38you see the thing about McGrath he doesn't pitch the ball up much
29:43he doesn't go short either because he's a tall lanky lad high action he hits the deck that just
29:49awkward short of a length and when Tendulkar hit him it was only because he made he made steps down
29:56the pitch to try and get to the pitch of the ball you very rarely get anything right up there in
30:01the slot to drive off McGrath actually what else i found very unusual about the little play that
30:08we've had this morning oh that's beautifully good see that's a good comeback by McGrath he's
30:15beaten him a couple of times it's all right being positive you have to try to be positive
30:20but it is risky no doubt at all oh close he's just coming back to that little moment
30:29soon after Tendulkar had hit McGrath for a six and a four at the end of that over
30:34as you'd expect McGrath had something to say he normally has a comment or two all the time
30:38but Tendulkar gave it right back now you don't see that too often with uh with someone like Tendulkar
30:50that's a fantastic shot that for me is the best in the world not the chasse down the pitch
30:57that was just short of the length and he got in position so quick
31:01that he hit it basically only just behind square and normally somebody like McGrath
31:07when you're looking to hook him like this you get it behind square but he's picked that up
31:13whoa well all of you watching this in india i don't know what your hearts are doing but
31:18mine's an overdrive i can tell you that this is i don't know i don't care if it's one day
31:24cricket not test cricket this is cricket of the very very highest order
31:27but whatever he's at for breakfast he wants to have a few more like that
31:37i think he's had some food for the mind
31:40ah beautiful goal he's just given him the win he's playing on Tendulkar's ego at the moment
31:45i think he's playing on the fact that Tendulkar is going to attack him and being an attacking
31:49bowler himself McGrath is willing to is willing to grant him that little bit an effort to get
31:53more he pitched he took deliberately wide so go on chase it if you want it you're gonna have to
31:59go for it wide beautifully thought out and after this shot he just gave a little nod of
32:05the head did sash in as if to say yeah that was a bit silly that bit over aggressive
32:16what a great contest this is now all the people in india call up your friends because you're seeing
32:20two great players about times in a great contest 38 for no loss
32:50um
33:00balls this has been an unbelievable session so far
33:10the other end as well what a shot that was no that was the prince of calcutta at his best
33:20whoa did he hit that on the rise look at this this is short of a land on the rise
33:26with that perfect and exquisite timing that he has yeah yeah yeah
33:33i'll tell you if you're not watching this cricketer on espn don't call yourself a
33:37cricket lover anymore because cricket doesn't get better than this
33:53they've rode a bit of luck of the two indian opening batsmen a little bit of playing and
33:57missing but at the same time they played some terrific shots wonderful shots and that's what
34:04can happen if a bowler gets hit just he starts to think oh cranky where am i going to bowl it he's
34:10going to hit this but they are good comeback specialists this is great start to the match but
34:17they are tough boys these aussies
34:26i'll tell you one other thing as well jeff if saraf ganguly weathers the storm and goes on to
34:30play a big inning he's going to earn a phenomenal amount of respect within the team as well because
34:34there's been a lot of talk about the fact that ganguly wanted to bat at number four in this game
34:38and wanted straight on to open the betting to try and bolster the middle order and it would have gone
34:43down very well with the team who'd want their top two batsmen to then go up with the really quick
34:48bowlers in end of ganguly and he's uh he's already made nine so far if he can go up there weather the
34:53storm and play good innings i think he learned a huge amount of respect within the side as well
34:57so it's got to be the best new ball attack of the world at the moment
35:05well i'm not sure i agree with that asha i mean i think some people whether it's in the media
35:11the public or sometimes in your own dressing room they're always looking for a minus in the captain
35:16and maybe the captain was looking for a way to sort of lengthen the batting let's face facts
35:22you've got top three that's as good as most players in the world and the rest are very
35:26ordinary and so he'd be worried that if leah mcgrath were terrific fast bowlers there if
35:33they were to knock over two of that top three then the indian batting looks very wobbly
35:38and that's all he'd be doing
35:43and as you say if he'd have uh if it has succumbed to that thought by thinking well
35:49or i'll put sash in at four he just lengthened the batting and it didn't work there have always
35:54been people looking to criticize but it's the easiest thing in the world to be captain
35:59of a great side if you've got six quality batsmen a couple of top class all-rounders
36:05well it's a piece of cake when you've got some quality players in the indian side and
36:10a few that are very ordinary you're all the time searching your brain how to make it better how do
36:16i lengthen the batting how do i get more out of the bowling not an easy job
36:26oh bradley thought he was onto something there
36:31the great thing about this morning session so far is every ball comes coated with expectation
36:38with anticipation it's just a feeling something is going to happen with every ball i'll ask you
36:43a question actually you can think about it because it'll be the last ball of the over in a minute
36:48is there any time when india play and lose where they don't get criticism because it just seems
36:53to me that unless they win there's always some people want to criticize the captain of the team
37:01sometimes you can play well and just be outplayed by a better side
37:04so let's get back to the main act we've seen lee versus ganguly
37:20but this is the main course
37:34ganguly is sent back by tenduka now is that slightly average running or is that a sign
37:41of confidence i'll take my graph and uh steve buckner's telling tenduka just be careful where
37:46you're running on well he got enough batter on that not perfectly timed but he he went to
37:57deliberately hit it down so that if he mishit it a little bit there was no chance of being caught out
38:05what we've seen this morning which is quite refreshing again is a very good batting pitch
38:10no moisture there hasn't been any exceptional movement of the ball
38:14what a terrific groundsman he is
38:20i think he changed his mind i think he was going for the pull again and then changed his mind
38:24at the last minute on the he was already committed to be aggressive
38:28and then he changed his mind he hit it straight towards extra cover
38:32and that's what happens when you get in a frame of mind to be aggressive and the runs come
38:37you get a slice of look see that's that pull shot and he nearly tried that again
38:43just running up and down the pitch i don't think there's anything much to worry about there
38:48really that should have been three though
38:50when you're playing a bowler of the quality of magra and the nougat the kind of form he is in
39:02he's bound to play and miss and i think he's given himself that margin when he's come out to bat
39:07no but he's just get over aggressive now isn't he the captain just walked down the pitch and
39:12had a little word with him he just walked down as uh ganguly and just said you know
39:18come on sash concentrate as i say you get can get overconfident overaggressive
39:24and he gets himself out
39:32that kept low that wasn't the batsman if you watch the bounce of the ball that didn't carry
39:40too high to the wicket keeper i think satin's just giving himself a bit of breathing time
39:45he's pulled the laces off they weren't loose he's pulled them off he's just given himself
39:49i think a minute or two a minute a minute and a half just to breathe again get his thoughts back
39:55again he's up against a person a lot of people including jeffrey boycott believes the best new
39:59ball bowler in the world today and this is just a sensational contest but to come back to your
40:04question jeffrey i think i think crowds in india and the media in india generally very tolerant
40:10i think if the indian cricket team is seen to be putting up a fight you know they're not winning
40:14indian audiences tend to be satisfied they want to see a contest
40:22oh he gave it he telegraphed that didn't he he was coming down to the get very
40:26early and actually he knew mcgrath was going to give him a glare he turned away from him
40:35i like that that's nice for the cricket he knows that he's bowled well as mcgrath
40:39he's not had much good fortune a couple of smacks off him have gone to ten dulce but
40:45he's bowled pretty well i'll tell you and actually if the two in your bathroom were
40:49to have a little chat they've actually got off to a flyer they don't need to carry on now
40:54they're virtually five and over now that's pretty good against these two i'll tell you
40:59uh
41:04well i think mcgrath was just uh play acting there just uh i think he deliberately stopped
41:10to see if ten dulce was going to come down the pitch there i think it's also good jeffrey they've
41:16got someone like steve bucknell there there was a little bit at the end of mcgrath's second or
41:20third already he quickly called mcgrath's side and said come on come on you know what i don't
41:25let him get to delivery side then i said just a minute that would really rattle him
41:49india have got 47 for no loss from nine overs
41:52it's a very good start they don't have to be over aggressive now just but
42:16well that wasn't quite up to normal australian feeling i don't think
42:20i wouldn't say it was bad but uh the standards are quite high for australia
42:25and this is a sort of nothingness attempt he's not really catching it he's not really stopping it
42:30he's just flapping like a girl india with his hand it's a bit hard you can see that's that ball
42:35don't be oh dear look at him you can say that jeffrey because you don't have to take the next
42:40flapping like a girl flapping like a girl he's big man is six foot plenty is gillespie
42:51what a session this has been
42:56slow ball outside edge whoa that was beautifully ball it seemed to not only be a slower ball but
43:03as if it drifted into him a little bit and he never uses his feet at times with ganguly stays
43:09in his crease and is that wonderful ability to time the ball watch the footwork and it just
43:13comes out slow and he just offers to come back and he's a good job he got a little nick
43:20oh we've seen it all haven't we we've seen
43:23aggressive fast bowling we've seen aggressive opening bedding we've seen great skill subtlety
43:30wonderful
43:3350 to 55 minutes or so
43:34we've seen some great shots we've seen some misfits as well i think the problem here with
43:43sarah ganguly he's not using his feet i made the comment in the first india match that
43:50when he's playing well he has better footwork what's happening at the moment he's tying one
43:55glorious shot through the covers but basically it's he's standing in the crease standing and
44:00delivering he's not getting his right foot forward he's never had a big stride but he's
44:04usually had a stride that gets his weight forward into the shot he's not doing that
44:14sneak a leg bar in there
44:20the huge buzz at the moment brett lee came on to go and suddenly everything that we've seen
44:25in this tournament before tended to get cast aside in terms of sheer speed his first ball
44:30was 86 his second 89 and soon he was hitting 92 and i'd be very interested as well jeffrey in
44:37seeing how the man you called the flapping girl comes in and bowls because he can be very very
44:42quick as well can jason gillespie i know you've got a frown on your face i saw him bowling in
44:47melbourne in august when he came in of a long layoff and his bowling of a slightly shorter
44:51run-up you could see already that he was pretty brisk
44:53he and harvey the other bowling option that's shane lee as in chapel said during a very long
45:03preview show this morning that australia won't bother with the spinners on the strength
45:12well i thought the australian opening pair of ball quite well they've made the batsman play a
45:18miss yes there'll be some glorious shots but i don't think i'd be unhappy with the way mcgrath
45:25and lee have bowled they beat the bat beautiful slower ball by lee i hear in chapel this morning
45:32said that this lad's a pretty quick bowler but he's got a good cricket mind
45:39if i was steve ware i don't think i'd be
45:43i don't think i'd be too unhappy yes australia haven't got a wicket
45:49say beaten again beautifully bowled 52 for none
45:56a little slowly then that big over from uh from mcgrath after that they've been doing pretty well
46:01around the five and over mark forced boundaries and three sixes so far in the total of 52
46:09that is what 16 then 18 34 out of 52 add nine extras 10 extras to that
46:16how little running the bats would have done
46:27oh sorry i don't think there's any need for that i mean glenn mcgrath's got a sort of
46:35rueful smile on his face that nothing's gone for him but i think the danger is here that india
46:41who've grabbed the initiative with some glorious shots and a bit of good fortune
46:46are liable to throw it away now that's the danger is they play indiscriminate shots
46:53the score in five and over against the best two bowlers
47:01i think mcgrath's just being spoken to by steve buckner about running on
47:07he's going around the wicket of course to the left-hander
47:11sometimes you drag yourself into the danger area
47:18it must destroy the indians a little bit they've got their runs with big hits they haven't got
47:23twos and threes going at five and over the number of chances they've taken there have
47:31six six and a half and over versus india best of four for eight
47:44oh well done beautifully done by brett lee he got the fear of the bounds he judged the bounce
47:49well it came to him on the first bounce of third man he's just golden over and he came
47:53running in very quickly that was wonderfully done just a single
48:00oh
48:04yeah it's just hit over the top to the shortest boundary but it bounced nicely for the fielder
48:09a lovely comfortable bounce
48:19so
48:26come on like two gun shooters haven't they gunslingers
48:36should go all the way
48:46yes i think they were they've arrested the initiative from the australians but now they
48:50can settle down to be positive in the batting and play orthodox shots like this i don't think
48:56they need to be slogging anymore they've rode a little bit of luck and some good fortune
49:01with some exceptionally good shots lovely timing
49:13now glenn mcgrath saying is there any justice at all i've gone past the bat any number of times
49:18i've got figures of none for 35 so far
49:31i don't know how much they've paid to get into the jeffrey but already they've got a
49:37fair amount of their money's worth
49:51interesting to see what kind of speed he builds up
50:01i think he's a good bowler how should i think that when you said he's as quick as uh and as
50:05good as the other two i don't quite agree
50:19to fall 62
50:31so
50:39so
50:57a little sticking out of the tongue from uh glenn mcgrath i don't always see figures like
51:02those the last time i saw someone going after him like this was at the sydney cricket ground
51:05when abdur azad went after him and got 50 from six overs today 40 to leave shot
51:18this is turning out to be a diamond of the most beautiful flowers this morning
51:23now he just played the second orthodox cricket shot now i think this is what india needs
51:28the uh he's cooled the blood a little bit play now because he's quite a positive
51:37batsman anyway he's turned over he's got a great array of shots
51:41doesn't need to do any wild swings now and try and get on top of the bowlers
51:46and they're already on top
51:51what's next
51:52i think he's uh i think he's caught on jeffrey he's playing his last two boundaries as you said
52:02have been very good cricket shots now that's where he's got his runs from two fours and a six down
52:07from the third man that's india you know eighty percent on the offside there's a little story in
52:12there for you just giving themselves room and uh playing the bat to the rest well i think both of
52:18them prefer offside we all know about ganguly he's nearly all offside but um it's been entertaining
52:26this morning you know dramatic as tenduka's batting has been those two boundaries you saw
52:32from ganguly she tried to hit that too hard see him cross there in it oh you silly idiot he's
52:41saying to himself this is the danger that once you start being very positive aggressive and
52:48you know the bowlers are bouncing year and after years he can go he's saying just come on come on
52:52settle down you've got to keep a little bit of a cool head still be positive
52:59you twerk is saying to himself oh jeffrey you can you can assign all the words in the book you want
53:05to him but i'll tell you he said something a lot more than mcgrath came up to him a short while
53:09back i haven't seen that from such and before i must admit could you read his lips i think i did
53:16and that's what surprised me
53:21but they are so good in the slip these australians damien martin the catcher
53:28can do the flirting outside the often just a ball after ganguly went down to him
53:32and redmoo has got the breakthrough i don't know what australia would be willing to give for that
53:3866 for one in the 12th over yeah you see this ball is is a good length he's 1080 on the up
53:44and eventually they've got just reward of the
53:47australians they finally got a nick nicely caught straight forward
53:54and one of them's deserved a wiki because they're both the ball quite well 66 for one
