00:00There's a lot to see and learn.
00:02Yes, that's what you'll learn in a new lesson in the unusual Silid Aralan.
00:07And it's a trend now, not only to live in the memories,
00:11but to really live and feel and see.
00:15That's the story of Niko Wahe.
00:22This is not a throwback post.
00:25The colorful and traditional culture of Filipinos
00:29is not just something you can read in a book.
00:31Because in the town of Malay Saaklan,
00:33instead of a beach trip,
00:35they're having an interactive field trip
00:39to their Living Museum.
00:46This museum is going back to the past.
00:51Because you can literally experience the culture of that time,
00:55which is still alive today.
00:57According to the curator, Neneth Aguirre-Grac.
01:00I made a project
01:02to make sure that my elders have a livelihood
01:06and to make it a tourist attraction.
01:08I conceptualized it,
01:10picking the brains of our elders.
01:12We took all the activities of the people of that time.
01:16In two hours,
01:17the museum's 10 interactive stations will be full.
01:22But not on the beachfront,
01:23but in the Barangay Motag Living Museum in the town of Malay.
01:28It's like you're entering an old place
01:32to experience everything, to do everything.
01:35It's scripted,
01:36what each station will say.
01:41Anthony's group will go back to the past.
01:43An Australian and Jeff from Laking Manila.
01:46It's a farming experience.
01:48What are the relevance of the harvested corn,
01:51the harvested rice,
01:53how do they go down to the hill,
01:56prepare their food,
01:58ride a horse,
01:59how do they prepare the rice before it becomes heavy.
02:03They learn how to make baskets,
02:05even the herbal medicines that people use today.
02:09We don't have a doctor here,
02:10no hospital.
02:11Just remove the husk.
02:12In the kitchen,
02:13when cooking,
02:14they use the old utensils,
02:15such as a pan,
02:16a bain-marie,
02:17and a bain-marie.
02:18That's what they're waiting for.
02:19How do they do it when they pour water,
02:23what's inside their house,
02:25what's inside their kitchen.
02:28There's also a bonus of traditional dancing of tinikling
02:32and playing kadang-kadang.
02:36According to the 2020 census,
02:383% of the Malay population are elderly.
02:43That's why it's a big thing to introduce
02:45and pass on to the youth
02:47the knowledge of their past life.
02:50According to the Malay Tour Guide Association
02:52and the Malay Tour Incorporated Chairman,
02:54Ederson Lozada.
02:56This is a sustainable tourism,
02:58local tourism product
03:00that we can showcase
03:02the culture of a Malay.
03:04What they usually say is
03:06that there are still available
03:08tourist spots here in the town of Malay
03:10other than Boracay Island itself.
03:12Because in the mainland,
03:14there is something new that they could explore.
03:18The tour costs P850.
03:20After a two-hour ride,
03:22there's a free snack
03:24at the Living Museum.
03:28It's the first time I've heard
03:30that tourism is being offered
03:32like this.
03:34It gives me interest and
03:36removes the barrier.
03:38If given a chance to come back
03:40with friends or family, I'll do it again.
03:42I think it's an excellent thing that MOTAG
03:44is doing here because it's providing
03:46employment, it's showcasing
03:49the ways that things were done in the past.
03:51I was looking to do something just a little bit different
03:53and this is a different activity.
03:55It's not just to see
03:57the sea and rivers.
03:59Tourism or travelers
04:01want to see the people
04:03who live there.
04:05That's what we want to present,
04:07not just the beach.
04:09This is the pride of Aklan, Boracay,
04:11Malay and Philippines
04:13because it's the first interactive
04:15living museum in our country.
04:19The rich culture of the Filipinos
04:21is still abundant wherever
04:23the province may go.
04:25That's why it's important to preserve this life
04:27so that it's not just
04:29in books to be read.
04:31I'm Nico Jae and that's the story
04:33you need to know.
