00:00Hi friends, today we will learn more about the types of pronouns, so let's start.
00:10We have already learnt that there are 10 types of pronouns, and out of them we have learnt
00:16about 4 types of pronouns, personal pronoun, reflexive pronoun, emphatic pronoun, and possessive
00:25pronoun, in detail in our last section.
00:30Today we will learn about what are indefinite pronouns.
00:36Indefinite pronouns, as the name suggests, those pronouns that refer to unspecified or
00:44indefinite people, objects, or places are known as indefinite pronouns.
00:51Now let's learn with examples.
00:55There are many who don't like to swim.
00:59Here the pronoun many is indefinite pronoun, as it's not referring to definite people,
01:07it's referring to unspecified or indefinite people.
01:13All are requested to grace the occasion.
01:17Here the pronoun all is referring to unspecified or indefinite people in the sentence, so it's
01:27an indefinite pronoun.
01:30Few could complete their task on time.
01:34Here the pronoun few is referring to unspecified or indefinite people, so it's an indefinite
01:43pronoun.
01:47Everyone is going to attend her birthday party.
01:51Here the pronoun everyone is referring to unspecified or indefinite people, so everyone
02:00is indefinite pronoun.
02:04Here are some indefinite pronouns that are treated as singular pronouns, and we use singular
02:10verb with them.
02:13Anybody, nobody, each, either, everyone, everything, someone, etc.
02:23All these are indefinite pronouns that are treated as singular pronouns and always use
02:29a singular verb with them.
02:32Now let's see the usage of some of the singular indefinite pronouns.
02:37Example, has anyone seen my book?
02:42In this sentence, anyone is a pronoun which is indefinite, that is not specifying any
02:50particular person, and also it's singular, so it always takes a singular verb.
03:00Nobody is going to sleep tonight.
03:02All are up for the party.
03:05Here we have a pronoun nobody.
03:09It's an indefinite pronoun as it's not specifying any particular or thing, and also it's singular,
03:17so it will take a singular verb.
03:23Everybody is required to attend the school function tomorrow.
03:27Here we have a pronoun everybody.
03:31It's an indefinite pronoun, and is it singular or plural?
03:38It seems to be plural, everybody, but it is singular, as it is referring to all persons
03:46or all things collectively as a single unit, so we use singular verb for it.
03:55Everybody is required to get up early tomorrow.
04:00Everybody is looking very smart.
04:03So we use is with everybody, that is singular verb with everybody, which is indefinite singular
04:13pronoun.
04:16Next we have everyone.
04:20Everyone is wearing same color t-shirt.
04:24Here again, everyone is a singular indefinite pronoun, and it always takes a singular verb.
04:33Everyone is going to watch a movie.
04:38Everyone is willing to play cricket.
04:43So we use singular verb with everyone, and everyone is a singular indefinite pronoun.
04:52Here are some of the indefinite pronouns that are treated as plural pronouns, and we use
04:57plural verb with them.
05:02Both of them were wearing same colored clothing.
05:06Here the pronoun both is indefinite pronoun, and it's a plural indefinite pronoun, as it
05:14refers to more than one person, particularly two persons.
05:20So it's an indefinite plural pronoun, and it will take plural verb.
05:26Both of them were wearing same colored clothes.
05:30So we have used plural verb with both, that is were.
05:36So what we have learned?
05:38We have learned indefinite pronouns refers to unspecified persons or things, and they
05:45can be singular or plural, and accordingly they take singular or plural verb.
05:52Now we will be learning what are distributive pronouns.
05:59Pronouns which refer every person or thing among a group separately, rather than collectively,
06:06are called distributive pronouns.
06:10For example, each student in this class is brilliant.
06:15Here, each refers to every student in the class separately.
06:22We are not talking about the whole class, we are talking about each student separately.
06:29Each girl was given a new dress.
06:33Here again, each refers to every girl, but separately, not collectively.
06:42Neither road is safe, means none of the two roads is safe.
06:48We are talking about each road separately.
06:52Either girl is fit for the role, means both the girls are fit for the role, and we are
06:59talking about every girl separately.
07:04Remember, either and neither are used only when we are talking about two persons or two things.
07:15Each one of them had a ball.
07:18So, each refers to every person separately, and not collectively as a group.
07:25So, these pronouns referring to every person or everything separately at a time are called
07:32distributive pronouns.
07:35Let's have more examples.
07:39Either boy can do it.
07:41Here, the pronoun either is again a singular indefinite pronoun as it is referring to any
07:49of the two boys.
07:51It is also a distributive pronoun as it is referring to each of the boys one by one.
08:00Neither bag is mine.
08:02Here, the pronoun neither is a distributive pronoun as it refers to one person at a time.
08:11As we have seen ever all, these distributor pronouns took singular nouns as they are singular
08:19indefinite pronouns, but if we use them as each of, either of, neither of, they become
08:28and then take plural noun but singular verb.
08:33Let's see how.
08:35Each of these dresses is beautiful.
08:38As we have used each of, so we have used plural pronouns each of these dresses, but singular
08:46verb is beautiful.
08:49Each of these questions is easy.
08:53Plural noun and singular verb.
08:57Each of the chairs is occupied.
09:01So, you can see we use each of and this is why the noun is plural and the verb is singular.
09:11Chairs is the plural and the verb is is singular.
09:18Each of the chairs is occupied.
09:22It will be wrong to say each of the chair are occupied and it will be also wrong if
09:29we say each of the chair is occupied.
09:33The correct form is when you use each of, you have to use plural noun and singular verb.
09:41Either of the monkeys has banana.
09:45Again, we have used either of and this is why plural noun monkeys and a singular verb
09:54has.
09:55It would be wrong to say either of the monkey has a banana and it will be also wrong if
10:03you say either of the monkeys have a banana.
10:07So, you have to say either of the monkeys has a banana.
10:13Monkeys is plural noun and singular verb has.
10:20Neither of these bags is mine.
10:23So, we have used plural noun bags and singular verb is.
10:30Neither of these bags is mine.
10:34So, friends, what we learned today, we learned about two types of pronouns.
10:41That is the indefinite pronouns and distributive pronouns.
10:46Now, you may go ahead and take a quiz to learn more.
10:50Bye-bye.
