00:00Monday was the deadliest since the protests began in July.
00:04The protesters have now consolidated their demands into one point, asking the Sheikh
00:09Hasina-led government to resign.
00:11And also they are calling August 5th, Monday, as a long march to Dhaka, urging all the general
00:17public to join in the protest.
00:19While we know that a nationwide curfew has been called for an indefinite period, all
00:25the codes, the railway operations, businesses have been shut till further notice.
00:31The phone and internet services have also been suspended.
00:34So we know that now the protesters are really adamant, they want the government to resign.
00:41So the situation there remains very tense and volatile.
00:44Now, Adita, is there any sign that the Prime Minister and the rest of his government indeed
00:49will resign?
00:51Well, that we don't know for sure right now, because the protesters have declined Prime
00:59Minister Sheikh Hasina's call for talks.
01:02And we know yesterday that the chief of army staff has said that they will, they're asking
01:09the army not to fire at the protesters.
01:12And they say that they do not plan any coup attempt.
01:16And if there has to be any change in the government, it has to be in a democratic way.
01:22And they have blamed the police for the violence since July, in which at least 300 people have
01:28been killed and thousands have been injured.
01:32And these protesters have become a major challenge for Sheikh Hasina, who has been ruling the
01:37country since over 15 years.
01:40So we have to see in the coming hours how the situation turns out on the ground.
