00:00Hi kids, today we will learn about two more types of genders, common and neuter gender.
00:10So let's start.
00:14Every noun or naming word indicates whether a person or animal we are referring is a male
00:22or female.
00:23And this is what we call gender of naming word or gender of a noun.
00:32The gender of naming word or a noun can be any of the following four types of genders.
00:40Masculine gender, feminine gender, common gender or neuter gender.
00:48We have already learned about the masculine and feminine genders.
00:54And today we will learn what neuter and common genders are.
00:59Let's begin.
01:01A noun or a naming word that refers either to a male or female is said to be a common
01:08gender.
01:10Example, the word student is a noun or a naming word that refers either to a boy student or
01:19a girl student.
01:22So we will say that the word student is a common gender.
01:29Let's take another example.
01:31I have many friends.
01:35From the word friends, the gender of friends does not become clear as a friend can be a
01:41boy or a girl.
01:44So the word friend is a common gender.
01:49Here we have another such example.
01:53My parents attended the function at my school.
01:58From the word parents, it does not become clear whether we are talking about mother
02:04or father as it refers either to mother or father.
02:11So the word parent is a common gender.
02:18This person needs a doctor.
02:21So here doctor refers either to a male doctor or to a female doctor.
02:28So the word doctor is a common gender.
02:34My teacher is very helpful.
02:38Here the word teacher refers either to a male teacher or a female teacher.
02:45So the word teacher is common gender.
02:51So some words refer either to a male or a female person.
02:57Like singer.
02:58A singer can either be a female or a male.
03:04An engineer can either be a male engineer or a female engineer.
03:10Similarly, lawyer, artist, reporter, dancer, baby, architect, astronaut, all these words
03:21are common genders.
03:24They refer either to male or female.
03:28You can use the same word both for males and females.
03:33So what did we learn?
03:36Any noun or naming word that can either be used for a male or a female is called common
03:42gender.
03:45Now we will move to the next type of gender, that is neuter gender.
03:52Nouns that are neither males nor females are said to be of neuter genders.
03:59Neuter genders refer to non-living things.
04:03For example, this is my book.
04:07Here the word book is a noun or a naming word, but it does not specify any gender because
04:16book is a non-living thing.
04:20So the gender of the book is neuter gender.
04:26I have many pens.
04:29So the naming word here is pens.
04:33It doesn't specify any gender.
04:36So the word pen is neuter gender as it refers to a non-living thing.
04:44So neuter genders are naming words or nouns that refer to non-living things.
04:53Let's have some more examples of neuter gender.
04:57Desk, pen, tree, utensils, bucket, mud, mountain, cloud, dress.
05:08All these naming words do not indicate any gender.
05:12That is why they are said to be of neuter genders.
05:17So we have learned that every noun or naming word indicates a gender and genders can be
05:24of four types, masculine gender, feminine gender, common gender, and neuter gender.
05:35Common gender refers to a naming word that indicates either a male or a female.
05:42Neuter gender refers to a word that is neither a male nor a female.
05:50Let's do an interesting exercise.
05:53Here we have some words and we have to classify them into common genders and neuter genders.
06:01Parents refers either to father or to mother.
06:06So it's a common gender.
06:10Refers either to a male or a female.
06:14So it's a common gender.
06:17Employer also can either be a male or a female.
06:24So it too is a common gender.
06:28Car can neither be male nor female.
06:33So it's a neuter gender.
06:36Teacher can either be a male or a female.
06:41So it's a common gender.
06:44Doctor can either be male or female.
06:48So it's a common gender.
06:51River can neither be male nor female.
06:57So it's a neuter gender.
07:00Pen, a neuter gender.
07:03Eraser, a neuter gender.
07:06Plate, a neuter gender.
07:09Boss, a common gender.
07:12Architect, a common gender.
07:16Leader, a common gender.
07:19Bedsheet, a neuter gender.
