00:00Well, I didn't even know this was on, really.
00:02You didn't know it was on? You just happened upon it?
00:04Yeah, I was just passing by and I said,
00:06I was like, hey, come down, and all the stuff's on.
00:08Yeah. Well, I have to put it on my thing.
00:11First of all, it's dessert.
00:15So I'll have to come down here every Thursday.
00:18Are you interested in becoming member of Army Reserve?
00:20Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:21Why is that?
00:22I don't know. I'm just always interested.
00:24Playing a lot of video games?
00:26Yeah.
00:28What you've learned here today from these guys,
00:30do you think you'll look into it more?
00:32Yes.
00:33Yeah?
00:34Yeah, look, it's been really positive.
00:36I've had a lot of really nice students from the local area come through.
00:39Some are quite interested in Defence careers,
00:41and they come with that in mind,
00:43and others may be just a little bit curious about what we have set up
00:46and interested in the vehicle,
00:47and knowing a little bit more about what Defence does in Australia,
00:50and particularly the Army Reserves and what we're all about.
00:57This is probably the best response we've had
01:01in 11 years of doing engineering as a profession
01:07and what they need to be studying to get into the engineering profession.
01:14It's brilliant.
01:16There were, well, we know there was about 1,700 students.
01:20We'll check all the numbers soon.
01:22So it's been really amazing to be able to actually have Sydney Uni here
01:25or the Australian Film and Performance Academy, I think they're called.
01:30All of those people that you would not usually get to see face-to-face.
01:33You can go and have a direct conversation,
01:35talk about what ATAR you need to get in, different course options.
01:39All of that can be answered face-to-face,
01:41which is so much better than trying to email someone
01:43or do it on their website.
01:45So it's a really good opportunity for students,
01:47especially in Year 11, Year 12, if they want to go that direction into uni.
01:51But then we made sure we had, like, Forestry and Midcoast Council
01:55and the Police and Australian Defence Force and TAFE
01:58and all of those options that are more exciting for Year 10
02:01to really explore to see what their future path might be.
02:04And that's what it's all about, like,
02:06seeing the local employers that we had, Valley Industries.
02:09We had Level Tech from Gloucester.
02:11We had this lovely lady that's setting up Trady Ladies
02:13to operate here in the Midcoast area.
02:15She puts on young students that want to have a go on a drill or a hammer
02:18to be a builder's labourer and get their skills up that way,
02:21particularly young girls, which is awesome.
02:24We had Midcoast Connect.
02:27So it's everyone coming together like normal to make things happen
02:30and all get a buzz out of it.
02:32Yeah.
