00:48Hi, my name is Landon Harvey.
00:50I'm a comedian, ventriloquist, and puppet builder.
01:00I was very small in middle school and high school,
01:04and so I got made fun of because I was small,
01:07and my dummy was the same size as me.
01:13And I'm glad it happened, because it got me to the point
01:17where I didn't care about what other people thought of me,
01:19and I could just kind of focus in on my art and what I was doing.
01:23And I think that's really important.
01:26I joined TikTok because I wanted a way to try out jokes that had an organic brief.
01:31I've been able to grow an audience from TikTok that's spilled into my Instagram, into my YouTube.
01:42Yeah, one of the coolest things about TikTok is that it's a platform
01:46that allows you to create your own jokes.
01:48And I think that's really cool.
01:51Yeah, one of the key things to become a good ventriloquist.
01:54Well, you have to make sure that the puppet's eyes are always looking at the subject,
01:57whether it's you or it's the audience.
01:59That's called manipulation.
02:00Okay, making sure the puppet stays alive.

02:05You have to have good lip control.
02:06Uh-huh.

02:09I always say you don't want to smile all the time, because that looks creepy.
02:11Yeah, you don't want to have a conversation with someone
02:13and creepily smile at them when they're talking.
02:15So I make sure that my face is relaxed when I do ventriloquism.
02:18And when you practice, that's a very important thing you should do as well.

02:21Be very relaxed.

02:25I perform because I love it.
02:26I love all of the work it takes to get to the one point,
02:30and then you go on stage, and when you really just nail it
02:34and make them laugh and bring them into your world,
02:37you're providing escapism for them,
02:40but then you're also seen in a different light
02:45and you're able to bring this laughter and these puppet characters to life.
02:51And there's a magic in that, for sure.
