00:00So we're here in Telford and it's the Telford Flyers Track, an amazing facility, and what's happening today, Heather?
00:07So we've got the Midland Regional Championships happening today.
00:11And you've got people coming from all over the country, haven't you?
00:14All across the country, yeah. It's specifically the Midland region, but anybody can enter, so we've got entries from all over.
00:21And it's the first event you've had under the Telford Flyers banner here, is that right?
00:26It is, absolutely. Yeah, we opened the track back up again in September with the Telford Flyers and it's really exciting to have everybody here.
00:35How many youngsters do you think you'll have actually competing here today?
00:39For the Telford Flyers, we've got about 15.
00:41Yeah, and in Toe Warflare?
00:43Yeah, we've got close to 200.
00:45Wow, cool. It's an amazing facility. I mean, you do wonder sometimes because it's a bit tucked away, isn't it?
00:50But I guess that's what you want to do, isn't it? You want to put it on the map? Is that the plan?
00:53What's your hopes and aspirations for the track in the future?
00:57Absolutely. We want it to become a fundamental part of the community. We want to engage as many people from across Shropshire.
01:03It's so important to have children active, doing all sorts of things, getting out there.
01:11We're such a great community, so supportive, and it's great for the families as well.
01:16And if you're someone who's interested but you think, well, I've never raced a BMX, it all seems a bit intimidating,
01:22you do do kind of sessions for beginners and everything, don't you?
01:26We do everything. We've got riders that are total beginners right the way through to world-class riders.
01:32And we've got amazing coaching happening here as well. We've got Smiley's Flight Club, who's based out of here.
01:40If you want to just come and have a ride and you don't want to compete, it's for you.
01:46If you want to compete and you want to become a world-class rider, absolutely, we've got the pathway to get you there.
01:53And if people want to find out more, Telford Flyers on the socials, I guess.
01:56Absolutely. We're on Facebook, Instagram. They can find us at Google Search.
02:01And if you want to enquire, it's info at telfordflyers.co.uk
02:07Where have you come from, guys?
02:09Melton Mowbray.
02:10Cool.
02:11And have you been down to the track before?
02:13Only with our eldest son for him to race. It's the first time that we've raced, though.
02:18How long have you been involved in racing yourselves?
02:20How long?
02:21Five, six years now for ourselves.
02:23So who's best, you or your son?
02:26My son now.
02:27Is it?
02:28He's definitely much faster than me.
02:31What do you make of the event and the track here? How does it compare to other tracks you've been to?
02:35Really good. I like the track.
02:37Pleased with it, yeah?
02:38It's a nice track. It flows nicely.
02:40And have you raced already today?
02:42We have, yeah.
02:43How did you get on?
02:44Not too bad. Mixed results.
02:46Well, you're not bleeding from what I can tell anyway, so that's the first result, is it?
02:51That's the main thing.
02:52Well, good luck in any afternoon races, guys. Cheers, folks.
02:55Thank you very much.
02:56So how are you doing, lads? What's your names?
02:58Shay.
02:59Shay and?
03:00Charlie.
03:02You're riding for Birmingham BMX Club, but you're actually black.
03:05You're Sedgley, lad, and you're Birtwood.
03:08So how have you got on in your race, little man?
03:11I've won.
03:12You've won, didn't you?
03:13Yeah.
03:14I've won.
03:15I have.
03:16You've won, yeah?
03:17And I have been riding this whole time.
03:23Working hard?
03:24Yeah.
03:25Yeah, yeah. And how old are you, then?
03:27Six.
03:28So how long have you been doing BMX racing?
03:29Three years.
03:30Wow. Awesome, mate. And Shay, how old are you, mate?
03:33Fifteen.
03:34And how long have you been racing?
03:36About 13 years.
03:37Yeah? No way. And how have you got on today?
03:40I got second in my first one, and then first and second again.
03:45Oh, you can't argue with that.
03:46Yeah, awesome, mate. What do you think of the track and the facilities here?
03:50It's good. I don't really like the first corner, but I deal with it.
03:55Go on, then. Is it too tight, too wide? What's the deal?
03:59With the speed you get into it, it's a bit like you feel like people are going to go underneath you.
04:03Ah, yeah, yeah.
04:04It's not too bad.
04:05So basically, if you get past the first corner without coming off, you're on to a good stretch, yeah.
04:09Well, good luck in your afternoon events, lads. Cheers, guys.
04:13So racing's done here at Telford.
04:15Archie, you're one of the local lads, Telford Flyers.
04:18How have you got on today?
04:19Good.
04:20You've been pleased, yeah?
04:22How old are you, Arch?
04:24Seven.
04:25Seven, and you're racing BMXs? I mean, that's pretty cool, isn't it?
04:29Have you ever had any nasty bumps and scrapes?
04:34Yeah, lots.
04:36What's the trick? Is it just get back in the saddle, as they say?
04:39Straight back on.
04:41Dad, how long's he been involved in BMXing?
04:43About six months now.
04:44Oh, so quite new to it.
04:45Absolutely, yeah.
04:46Yeah, yeah.
04:47He's took to it really, really well, and he really enjoys it. That's what it's all about.
04:51What a good, healthy thing for him to be doing, though, at this age, you know what I mean?
04:55Didn't want him sat in that house playing computer games, did we?
04:58Yeah, yeah.
04:59He loves his bikes.
05:00Great stuff. So you're going to stick at it?
05:02We're going to see you on the number one podium in a few years, yeah?
05:05Yeah.
05:06Good lad. Nice one. Fist bump.
05:08Cheers, guys. Thank you.
05:10Bye-bye.
05:12The game's on.
05:13We're not leaving.
05:15It's Missy Lars.
05:17But what a game for Percy Freer.
05:19She goes up the inside.
05:21Can she hold on to it?
05:23Freer is there in that fist bump.
05:25I'm at E2.
05:26Missy Lars takes it solid.
05:28Jarvis seconds in.
05:30They're all queuing up behind her, though.
05:32It's Percy Freer.
05:33Into the second berm.
05:34Tracy, look, he's got the inside.
05:36Holding it good.
05:37But Freer coming back.
05:39But out front, it's still Missy Lars.
05:41So it's Lars at Islet.
05:431 and 2.
05:44But at the moment, the race is for third place.
05:47Who's going to get that final spot on the podium?
05:50Missy Lars takes the A1.
