00:00It is, uh, it is official here in the Olympics, uh, that, uh, we now know our gold medalist
00:11is with Team USA in golf, Scotty Scheffler with a, I don't even know why we're surprised
00:18here with a absolutely unbelievable Sunday, uh, to catapult himself into a gold contention.
00:26And once again, Tommy Fleetwood does what Tommy Fleetwood does very well, and that's
00:31fold when it matters the most.
00:33And nobody knows that better, uh, than our good friend, Brady Cannon, uh, who's stepping
00:38in here.
00:39And by the way, uh, Team USA 28, 24, nice rebounding effort here, uh, in the women's
00:45basketball side, uh, still about four and a half minutes to go into second quarter there.
00:49But Brady, uh, the choke of all, I just didn't expect ROM to go that direction here today.
00:57But he did.
00:58And Tommy Fleetwood, I thought he was poised, man.
01:00He's got to win on this course, doesn't he?
01:02Like this was all set up for Tommy Fleetwood.
01:06And then where the hell was Scotty?
01:08What?
01:09Like, why were we not looking at Scotty Scheffler over these last three days?
01:13Well, you know, it's just absolutely incredible.
01:16And what a final round it was, Joe.
01:19And, and I'm not going to say Tommy Fleetwood lost it.
01:21He shot five under par.
01:23That's pretty darn good.
01:25And you and I nailed it on Saturday.
01:26We said the winning score was 19 under.
01:29We said if John ROM or Xander Shoffley, if you asked him if they'd take 19 under, I bet
01:34they would.
01:3519 under got it done for an American.
01:37We just didn't expect it was going to be Scotty Scheffler.
01:40My goodness.
01:41If there was any question as to who the PGA Tour player of the year was coming into this
01:46competition in Paris, there's no longer a question.
01:49And that was firmly answered today as Mr. Scheffler adds a gold medal to his green jacket
01:55and now seven tournament wins on the year.
02:00Absolutely stunning.
02:01Xander Shoffley fell off the map really completely.
02:04It started at the sixth hole, I believe, when he made bogey.
02:07John ROM, absolutely stunning as well.
02:11Just as incredible as Scheffler's 62, a 62 to get it done on Sunday.
02:18John ROM had a four-shot lead with eight holes left to play.
02:23And I don't know what it was.
02:24I think he shot about five over on that backside.
02:28Didn't even medal after being out in front to win gold by four shots with eight to play.
02:34Didn't even finish on the podium.
02:36It was just a wild turn of events.
02:38And I think another thing that was absolutely incredible, Joe, you saw this leaderboard
02:43just shifting like crazy, especially in the second half of the morning here.
02:49When ROM had gotten it to 20 under, everything just started going nuts.
02:54Victor Perez of France was, you know, just made what a showing he had in front of his
03:00home crowd, nearly got to the podium.
03:02Everything was going nuts.
03:03And after all that, after all the dust settles, we don't even end up with a playoff for any
03:08of the medal positions.
03:10Just a wild, wild Sunday.
03:13We expected it was going to, you know, be fireworks, but boy, I did not expect anything
03:18like this.
03:19And like I say, if you told me an American was going to win gold, I absolutely would
03:23have bet a lot of money it was Shopley and not Sheffler.
03:27And it's crazy because we talked about how the numbers that you had for him were just
03:33absolutely crazy.
03:34Numbers you don't see.
03:36You certainly haven't seen all year long, but the guy comes up and comes up big.
03:41In fact, I believe ROM was the only guy on the leaderboard and on the first page there
03:45to shoot 70.
03:47Everybody else.
03:48And to your point, these were some great numbers.
03:50This was great golf here today, but only one guy went low enough early enough to put the
03:56pressure on.
03:57And that was the other question we had yesterday, who's going to post the number and put the
04:01pressure on the guys that got to finish?
04:03And I think, well, who else?
04:05Scotty Sheffler.
04:07And I still don't think his putting was great this week.
04:09That's the amazing thing, Brady.
04:11Yeah, no, you're exactly right, Joe.
04:14For the week, he lost strokes to the field with the putter about a third of a stroke,
04:19you know, more than a quarter of a stroke.
04:22Excuse me, about of a third, a third of a stroke.
04:25He lost to the field with the putter, but he came up big when it mattered.
04:29He gained over a stroke and a half with the putter on Sunday.
04:34Obviously, you need something like, gosh, I'm getting all choked up here.
04:39You need something like that when you shoot a 62.
04:42Obviously, you have to have the putter firing when you shoot a 62.
04:46And Scotty picked the right time to find a hot day with the flat stick.
04:50But you're right.
04:51And that's why we really didn't figure he was going to be a part of this equation.
04:55You know, he was four shots off the pace.
04:58We talked about it.
04:59We were looking at Rory at 10 under.
05:00I think D3 started at 10 under.
05:03And of course, Scotty, you had Matsuyama at 11 and Hoigard at 11.
05:09And we were figuring it was going to take an eight or nine under, you know,
05:12to maybe at least get into a playoff.
05:15But it didn't figure that Scotty was going to be the guy to turn that trick
05:19because of the woes he had had putting all week long.
05:22And just, I mean, the guy just continues to amaze.
05:26It, you know, right, right when we're just talking about it yesterday,
05:29Xander Shockley, clearly the best player in the world for the last month.
05:33Boy, he just turned everything on a dime with 18 holes of golf here on a Sunday.
