00:00McCann alongside Gary Neaver.
00:30to the current day, and Dundee United leading this derby by two goals to one,
00:34no changes by either team at the break.
00:39Neil, what do you feel Tony Doherty will want to see more from his Dundee team?
00:43I think the guys are talking about a wee bit more control in the game,
00:45probably. I did say that, look, McCowan,
00:48he was looking a little bit jaded now, whether he's carrying something,
00:51or there's a problem there, but he's not his normal sparky self,
00:55but they need to show their dominance, which they should have,
00:58in this fixture, they're the Premiership side.
01:01Thompson's on the move again, he had a lively first half.
01:05Yeah, they're the Premiership side, guys, but they're just,
01:09they've just been caught a wee bit with the energy,
01:12and the determination, and it looks like the real threat of Dundee United's side.
01:20There's Graham.
01:23Now Gallagher.
01:29There's Chavelle.
01:31Showed up well in the first half, as did Thompson, who he's linked up with there.
01:39Pobonski.
01:47Dundee United making the brighter starts to the second half,
01:50Van der Sande has done well to bring that under his spell.
01:53Under pressure from Graham.
02:01Van der Sande the target again, again he's in combat with Graham,
02:04and he's picked out the onrushing Thompson.
02:11Yeah, he just didn't take it in his stride.
02:13Van der Sande though, he's proven to be a real handful for that back line of Dundee.
02:19Yeah, his agent is a bit of a Dundee United icon in Freddy van der Horne.
02:27And when van der Sande arrived here doing his early interviews,
02:30instead of calling Dundee United Dundee United,
02:32he called them Dundee a couple of times, and van der Horne was straight in his ear.
02:35Yeah, that's not good.
02:38He hasn't done it since.
02:40Thompson getting the better there of Larkesh,
02:42who was a bit of a threat in the first half,
02:45Thompson getting the better there of Larkesh,
02:48who slowly gets back to his feet after taking that hit.
02:52Yeah, I didn't see him in that at all.
03:01Larkesh just takes a touch here, tries to open out.
03:04It's a brilliant tackle from Thompson.
03:08Come on, come on!
03:13Larkesh involved again.
03:15There's McGee.
03:20That's Jordan McGee's seventh attempt to win the Dundee derby.
03:26McCowan.
03:28McGee's continued his run forward,
03:30popped up in a couple of spaces there but couldn't bring the ball under his scap.
03:34I've seen him maraud forward in the right wing-back area for Dundee,
03:37but taking a chance from the central man of the back three
03:41into a good little pocket space, just took a heavy touch.
03:46No panic yet for Tony Docherty.
03:48He knows that his side are well capable of getting themselves back into the game.
03:53CHEERING
04:00He's been a much sought-after and well-respected coach and assistant manager.
04:06Tony Docherty opted to take the number one job at Dundee
04:09when it was offered to him, after Callum Davidson turned it down.
04:15He's into his second season in that top job.
04:19Didn't do bad for starters today, taking Dundee into the top six last season.
04:24The first time in nine years.
04:31I think if Dundee are going to go long, then Palmer holding,
04:35he needs to stay central.
04:37Look, Simon Murray just playing that little channel that he's operating in now.
04:40That's his favourite place to be.
04:45There is Murray.
04:46McCowan.
04:48Larkish.
04:49McCowan again.
04:55McGee.
05:01McCowan.
05:02Silla's made the offer.
05:04Silla forces the corner.
05:07Super little ball from McCowan.
05:10Silla this time going into the channel on the left side.
05:13Getting a bit of joy in there, Dundee, if it's not Murray.
05:16Saw McGee get in there just a couple of moments before,
05:18couldn't control the ball, that time Silla does.
05:23Dundee fans housed on this side of the pitch.
05:29Behind that goal there, that is where Denz Park stands.
05:36McCowan with the corner.
05:38Hooked away by Van der Sande.
05:41Nicely looking for something on the break here, but McCowan back.
05:46And taking care of business.
05:49Babunski involved.
05:50Tackles flying in, the referee had his eye on everything there
05:54and gives the free kick to the home team.
05:58Yeah, I think, again, probably the right decision.
06:02We've not lacked any physical challenges in this match, I tell you.
06:07And that's a perfectly timed tackle.
06:11He's a wee bit late, isn't he?
06:14Marques.
06:20Good to see the referee's enjoying himself there, guys.
06:24Why wouldn't you?
06:29Van der Sande inevitably the target, but beaten to it by McGee.
06:33Graham involved, McGee's there again.
06:36Palmer-Holden gives chase, but Gallagher has the answer.
06:39Now McCowan, held off by Chavelle, and gets the free kick.
06:45Yeah, Chavelle's just offering a hand, in his friendly handshape.
06:52He knows he impeded McCowan.
06:57Let's go, Chavelle was brought here in the summer to play mainly as a centre-back,
07:01but they knew that they may have to push him out to that right wing-back role,
07:05which is where he's operating today.
07:08He's been playing in Slovenia, Vitko Chavelle.
07:12It's that high lane of Dundee United again.
07:14You see them drop off, five, six yards.
07:20McCowan with that free kick.
07:22Graham trying to get to that, there's the onrushing Cameron.
07:26He would love a goal here against his former club.
07:34One of the many subplots that are out there today.
07:38Lyle Cameron and Ingram are both protesting that that should have been a Dundee corner.
07:49Well, Gordon Strachan.
07:52He was technical director at Dundee in attendance here, Dundee was his first club.
07:57And he has been a big supporter of Lyle Cameron.
08:02Archie Knox beside him as well, looking very dapper.
08:08Unlike us.
08:13Chavelle.
08:19McGee.
08:20Portalis.
08:27There's Larkesh.
08:29Graham.
08:31Frustrated.
08:32Sebastian Palmer-Holden throws out his arms.
08:35Has a word or two with Tony Doherty on this near side.
08:38Back up the striker.
08:47It just needs to be a wee bit more tidy in terms of possession.
08:57That's Graham.
09:02McGee.
09:15Now Graham.
09:17There's McGee.
09:21Ingram.
09:23Wing-backs are so important to Tony Doherty's system.
09:26Ingram on the right and Larkesh on the left.
09:29If they are to achieve what they want to achieve and execute the game plan.
09:34Good work from Palmer-Holden.
09:36Yeah, you're right, but they've not shown up so far.
09:38They haven't really had any joy in those wide areas.
09:40I think what Dundee United are doing really well as well is being compact
09:43and forcing it wide and then going out and impacting in wide areas.
09:47And so far Ingram and Larkesh on the other side haven't got much joy.
09:53Ingram preparing to launch this.
09:55The three Dundee centre-backs have all made their way forward.
09:57He looks like a physical centre-back, does Tony Doherty.
10:01Of course, still no Joe Shaughnessy who's out injured.
10:06Vasila.
10:08A touch from Van der Sande.
10:10Drapanovski will pick on the baton.
10:14Vasila tidies up for the visitors.
10:20Ferry.
10:21Vasila involved again.
10:22Here's McCowan.
10:23Murray's on the move.
10:25He's always on the move.
10:27But likewise with Jack Walton.
10:30He needs to get back, smart little Walton.
10:33He is back.
10:34Ingram's cross.
10:35Away by Gallagher.
10:38Van der Sande.
10:40Just too much out of that time for Drapanovski.
10:58Dundee United looking to...
11:01One of the trail that was blazed by Dundee last season
11:04in terms of winning the championship the previous season
11:07and then making it into the top six.
11:12Setting the top six order by muscling in on their territory.
11:18Schavel commits the foul on McCowan.
11:21Yeah, second one.
11:23In quick succession on the one-two.
11:25In quick succession on the little midfielder.
11:27Just takes one in the back of the ankle there.
11:29He's just trying to roll away Luke McCowan.
11:32Dickinson just having a word.
11:33I don't think he'll get many more.
11:37He just takes it in here.
11:38Just tries to roll.
11:40He's got a little boot in the right ankle.
11:44He's lucky he doesn't get a yellow card for that.
11:48Just leaves the studs sitting on the ankle of Luke McCowan.
11:56Cameron and McCowan both standing over this.
11:59Graham waiting.
12:01Gui's in the mix.
12:02Murray's there.
12:05It's left to the left boot of McCowan.
12:08Cameron got to it.
12:10Gui tries to get there.
12:11Graham does.
12:12Portalis.
12:14United hold on.
12:15It could get even better for them here
12:17because the counter-attack is on with Drapanovski.
12:20It's Drapanovski!
12:22And Cameron races back and gets to it.
12:24Drapanovski thought he was impeded
12:27as he tried to finish things off.
12:29The referee's having not of it.
12:30And a glorious chance goes begging for Dundee United.
12:34McCracken does hit him but this is shocking defending
12:36I have to say from Dundee.
12:38Drapanovski's standing alone.
12:40Just about on the halfway line.
12:41This touch here is brilliant.
12:43I think he's cleaned out there.
12:45I mean Lyle Cameron does so well to eventually get back
12:48and take that off the line
12:49but he is absolutely wiped out by McCracken.
12:53And I have to say, just outside the box
12:55it's not inside the box
12:59but it is horrendous defending I have to say from Dundee.
13:02How can you leave yourself so exposed?
13:09Well, the VAR is going to let this one slide
13:14but he clearly wipes out Drapanovski.
13:16Now whether it's just in the motion of trying to make a save
13:20or an attempt to make a save.
13:22Well, the check complete is Dundee United.
13:25Watercourse problems again for the neighbours.
13:29Gallagher in strongly.
13:32Both teams fired up.
13:36Just looking down at the technical area.
13:38Tony Dawkin.
13:41The coaching team looking through set pieces
13:43because that's a set piece for Dundee.
13:46You can't leave no one at home
13:48because this guy has been allowed just to stand
13:52in the middle of Tanadise here
13:54and have a clean run at goal
13:55but for that young man there.
14:01Cameron just would not give up.
14:04How important a moment will that be?
14:06No, listen, he was brilliant, Lyle Cameron.
14:09He's in an advanced position.
14:10I would much rather he was goalside of Drapanovski
14:13in the starting blocks
14:14but he shouldn't be left alone.
14:15He should have another one in front of him.
14:23I don't know if another look at that would break.
14:31There's Murray.
14:33McCowan.
14:37Now Larkesh.
14:40Larkesh with the cross.
14:41Cameron, he had Hummel holding behind him
14:43and Ingram.
14:45Tony Dawkins, he has encouraged to make runs
14:47into the far post as he just did.
14:51Dundee corner.
14:54Good work from Ingram.
14:56Mid-centre forward back helping out there.
14:58All hands to the pump just now for Dundee United.
15:03Again, another set piece for Dundee.
15:04I don't think we'll see young Lyle Cameron
15:07back alone with Drapanovski this time
15:09and there's your answer.
15:10Larkesh, Ingram both back.
15:12I don't know what happened actually before
15:14but that won't happen again.
15:17Well, Ingram back almost on the halfway line
15:19and that is what is happening at the other end.
15:22Plenty.
15:25That's a crowded six-yard box, isn't it?
15:27Look at that.
15:32Jack Walton's never been so popular.
15:39Set right on top of the Dundee United keeper
15:42who deals with it.
15:44I think he can catch that.
15:45He's probably a bit surprised at the lack of attention
15:49that he's got considering the set-up of the set-piece.
15:59McCowan comes across to this near side
16:01to take this corner.
16:10Left Walton alone this time.
16:12Graham about to lead the charge for Dundee
16:14towards the near post.
16:16Didn't reach him.
16:27Scott Tiffany being readied by Tony Doherty.
16:29He's had a good pre-season of Scott Tiffany.
16:36So an attacking change is about to be made
16:39by Dundee.
16:43It's away from Palmer-Holden who then commits the foul.
16:51He's done well today, Ferret.
16:53He was really comfortable in that wide area.
17:00Well, this is Trapanowski again, his chance.
17:02This is the set-piece for Dundee.
17:05I mean, Cameron just works his way back to an area
17:07but everyone is up the pitch.
17:09It is quite incredible.
17:10I mean, Dundee United eventually clearly lines here.
17:15Look at that, the space.
17:17Look at Lyle Cameron, though.
17:18He's absolutely motoring.
17:19It's a cute little chip.
17:20McCracken wipes him out there.
17:22But there's Cameron to save the day.
17:29It was almost like it was the final seconds of a game,
17:34the set-up there.
17:35Really strange.
17:36I know Salah would make that mistake.
17:38Maybe he's just been attracted to the ball
17:41because it's bouncing around.
17:43But Tony Doherty must have been having heart palpitations there.
17:48That's McCowan.
17:51Graham gets there ahead of Thompson.
17:54McCowan again.
17:56Change on to Palmer-Holden,
17:57Babunski slides in.
18:00He feels that this is a big season for him personally.
18:03Jim Goodwin has a bit of a reputation to restore,
18:07a career to rebuild after it fell apart for him at Aberdeen.
18:11And he is doing that right now at Tanner Dice.
18:30Chevelle.
18:32Graham.
18:35Chevelle again.
18:38Now Murray.
18:40Gallagher's in the way.
18:41Yeah, good defendant.
18:43Mbeku Gallagher comes over,
18:45making sure it doesn't come into the box.
18:47He's vacated that central area.
18:50And there is this Dundee change.
18:52It's Ethan Ingram who is withdrawn,
18:54and Scott Tiffany.
18:56There's someone from the bench,
18:58onto the pitch,
18:59so Ingram's league debut is over.
19:03A note being handed to the players down below us.
19:06A little read by McGee.
19:08Things are about to shift around here for Dundee.
19:11Yeah, you just wonder where there's a shift in shape as well.
19:14Jordan McGee would imagine.
19:16Might go to that right side to play the right back area
19:19and get attacking.
19:22Graham and Portales just flattened out.
19:24It's an extra attacker on the pitch for Tony Dougherty.
19:28McGee has moved out to the far side
19:30as Dundee hunt another equaliser here.
19:33There's Graham.
19:35Cameron.
19:49Now he's shuffled these back,
19:50not only personnel-wise,
19:53but he's certainly changed shape.
19:55Still, he'll be asked to just sit in front of Portales and Graham
19:58just to give a bit of an assurance.
20:01But that man, Jordan McGee,
20:02sliding out to a more familiar role to what we're used to seeing him
20:06play for Dundee,
20:07just allowed to go forward and attack.
20:11It's a 4-2-3-1 for Dundee now.
20:15Murray through the middle.
20:16Palmer-Holden on the right,
20:18Tiffany on the left,
20:19and Cameron just behind Murray.
20:23McGee, as Neil mentioned, right back.
20:26Gallagher getting the better of Cameron.
20:33Trapanowski.
20:41He's enjoying himself, Trapanowski, you can tell.
20:46They've just popped that off there,
20:47but he's quite happy with the contact.
20:50Open to scoring today,
20:51but he's certainly looked a real good find for Jim Goodwin.
20:57I wonder if Jim Goodwin's contact in that part of the world
20:59has caught with the goods again.
21:01Macedonia.
21:05It's a flap all in,
21:06and Van der Sar gets his head on it.
21:08Comfortable save in the end for McCracken.
21:15That's Tiffany.
21:16And Walton gets to that,
21:17although it's squirmed away from him.
21:20And now he's gone down injured as the Dundee United keeper.
21:23I've never seen a 1-2, a goalkeeper,
21:25but I've just witnessed it for the first time, I think.
21:29A launch through,
21:30and McCracken launches it back through to Walton.
21:33Tiffany takes a little touch,
21:36and he's under real pressure.
21:39The goalkeeper, because Tiffany doesn't give up on it.
21:47I think it's a United defender that clashes with him, actually.
21:54McCracken was cool, takes it, launches it.
21:56You can see Tiffany just takes a little touch here.
21:58And as it goes through...
22:01Young-Thompson, is it?
22:03He clashes with the goalkeeper, spills it.
22:09Yeah, Miller-Thompson just collides with the goalkeeper.
22:13Should be fine with this one.
22:14We have a little knock in the knee-shin area.
22:18Kept a club record, 19 clean sheets last season.
22:21Jack Walton, veteran club icon,
22:23Billy Thompson's total from 86-87.
22:34Backup as he is today, Dave Richards is warming up
22:38and waiting to see if he is called upon.
22:44Mentioned earlier, this is the fourth time these two have met
22:47on the opening day of a league season.
22:49There was a time back in 1979, talking of goalkeepers,
22:53when Jim McLean, the legendary manager here,
22:56and legendary keeper Hamish McAlpine
22:58had had a bit of a falling out on a pre-season trip
23:01about where defenders should stand.
23:03So Hamish McAlpine didn't play in the opening day of the season
23:06against Dundee, Peter Benetti was summoned to play.
23:09He was a postman at the time, living on the Isle of Mull.
23:12Hey, yes.
23:14United 3-0 Dundee.
23:24Here's Thompson.
23:26Chavelle.
23:29Lokesh are behind for a United corner.
23:43A quarter of this Dundee derby to play.
23:46United led at half-time, and they still have the edge here.
23:53Thanks to that goal from Miller-Thompson.
24:02Babunski with the outswinging corner.
24:05Puttenheder away, it's fired back towards Holt.
24:11Comes to nothing in the end.
24:13Yeah, well, Holt's initial challenge,
24:15with a really good header from Jordan McGee,
24:17near post, fizzed in,
24:19and Holt was all or nothing for the challenge.
24:24Well, you can see the separation of the Dundee front line here,
24:27it's just out of shot, but Murray, Tiffany,
24:30Palmer, Holden out there in the wide right position,
24:33they're going to have to throw some risk at this match now.
24:36Again, they did not lose.
24:38McCowan!
24:39Tends to discharge us from a long way out.
24:46Yeah, he's not happy with himself, he's better than that.
24:49He's given himself a wee rout.
24:51He could have probably driven another five, six, seven yards
24:55just to see if it developed for him.
24:59That's their top scorer with ten goals last season.
25:01Luke McCowan felt he should have had more.
25:06Hey!
25:23Murray.
25:25Ursula.
25:31Now Tiffany.
25:34Palmer, Holden.
25:35Trying to keep it alive, but unable to do so.
25:40He's getting a line of the cross right, but not the trajectory.
25:44It's one of those ones he's trying to whip in,
25:47make it really difficult for the defenders going back towards their own goal.
25:51And it looks like there's going to be another shuffle of the pack again from Tony.
25:56Yeah, Josh Mulligan, who was a player of the match against Inverness last week in the League Cup,
26:00he is about to come on.
26:03Very rare you get a player of the match when someone else of the match has scored a hat-trick,
26:07as Simon Murray did.
26:10But that was how well Mulligan did in that contest.
26:18Up in Brechin, by the way, which is where Dundee have played their first couple of home games in the League Cup.
26:23They will return to Dens Park next week when they face Hearts,
26:27when the pitchers had a bit more time to bed in the new pitch at Dens.
27:03I tell you, that's brilliant.
27:05He just twists and turns.
27:07Shabell, it's a different foe he's got to face now.
27:10Watch this touch here, the big one, there.
27:12That's brilliant, just eliminates two defenders.
27:16Getting a bit of close contact, of course.
27:18Dick Ongareka is coming out.
27:21He still gets it on targets.
27:23It's big Graham, actually, he shuts it down.
27:26But good defender from United.
27:28Dropped towards the far post and McGee was waiting but couldn't do anything with it.
27:34And now a double change is on the way from Dundee.
27:37Mulligan, as we mentioned, and also Curtis Main is about to come on.
27:41It's the end of the game for Cameron, a Dundee United fan,
27:45who leaves the scene in a Dundee shirt.
27:48And also coming off is Dundee's goalscorer, Sebastian Palmerholder.
27:59On comes Curtis Main.
28:05He's scored three goals already this season in the League Cup.
28:11Another physical challenge for Dundee United,
28:13he'll bump into people, he'll try and get flick-ons for Simon Murray.
28:29Tiffany.
28:31And sliding in beautifully.
28:33Yeah, that was a great challenge from Graham.
28:36McGee.
28:37Tropinowski was breathing down his neck.
28:41Brilliant touch from McCracken, under pressure,
28:43but the second one wasn't that great.
28:45Thompson picks up the baton, three in the middle for Dundee United.
28:48Thompson pulls it back, and McCracken doesn't get to that.
28:52Siller does.
28:54And somehow Dundee survive.
28:56Well, by the skin of their teeth, I might add.
29:00I can only think that John McGee gets a big shout from McCracken and leaves it.
29:04Because he's on it, he can clear it, he just steps over it.
29:08And if McCracken's shouting, he must be ready for that.
29:11He spills it.
29:15A battle between Murray and Graham again.
29:17One by Siller, Murray slides in.
29:21The assistant referee's flag is up on the far side,
29:24indicating offside.
29:26Well, I'm looking forward to seeing this offside decision,
29:30but I tell you, if it is offside,
29:35Graham's got a wavy one because he catches Simon Murray
29:38right at the top of the ankle, I think.
29:41So this is a through ball.
29:43Big bang up the pitch.
29:44He might be just off, you know, he's leaning in, Simon Murray.
29:47Not a lot of light between the two.
29:49And then it becomes a race and a fight.
29:51Simon Murray wins that one.
29:53The touch is there.
29:54But I tell you, Ross Graham catches Simon Murray
29:56at the top of the ankle.
29:59There you go, bang there.
30:01I mean, if this is onside, it's a penalty.
30:03It's so tight, but I think he might just be off.
30:08VAR are checking the offside right now.
30:12The lines are being drawn.
30:17It's a nervous Tanadax.
30:19Yeah, but watch, it's a big long pass.
30:21You can see that Murray's just dipping in.
30:22Ross Graham, big stride.
30:24Look at his right foot.
30:25Is it on line?
30:27Is the shoulder of Simon Murray offside?
30:29Is he leaning forward?
30:31This is so tight.
30:33And I tell you, if it's onside,
30:35I'm sure David Dickinson's got a decision to make
30:37on the challenge.
30:39Murray does ever so well there,
30:40but he's very rash from Graham.
30:45Look at that.
30:48All on the offside decision now.
30:52So that is the challenge from Ross Graham
30:55on Simon Murray now.
30:58Well, right now, it's about whether Simon Murray
31:00initially was offside.
31:02So David Dickinson has been told to
31:06hold play for now.
31:08While VAR check
31:11the offside lines.
31:12Well, he obviously didn't make a decision on the challenge
31:15from Graham and Murray.
31:18You can hear the guys
31:19giving information to the referee
31:22just to hold up, make sure we're checking everything here.
31:25First of all, he has to
31:27wipe out whether he's offside or onside.
31:29Once that's dealt with, then we'll have a look at the challenge.
31:36David Dickinson, the referee, has been told
31:38to come over to the VAR screen
31:42and have a look
31:44at this challenge
31:46by Ross Graham
31:48on Simon Murray.
31:50He is onside.
31:52Well, I thought it was close.
31:55I thought it was very close.
31:56Whether he was just leaning with the right shoulder.
32:03So, we're getting it confirmed, Gary,
32:06that he is onside.
32:07So it's all about the decision now.
32:10And he's going to see it
32:12right now.
32:13This is a race.
32:15This is about power.
32:16As he turns there,
32:17Graham dives in
32:19and the left foot,
32:21for me,
32:22catches the ankle of Simon Murray
32:24and I think this will be given.
32:28Well, the fans around us
32:30are looking around at us
32:32for information
32:33as they wait,
32:35as we wait,
32:36the players wait
32:39for the fate
32:40of Dundee United and Dundee here.
32:46David Dickinson
32:47looked like he was about to walk away from the screen.
32:49Now he's gone back.
32:50Now he's walking away.
32:51What's the decision?
32:54The decision is a penalty.
33:01And a yellow card coming the way
33:03of Ross Graham.
33:05Yeah, it's a genuine attempt to play the ball.
33:08So, the offence is a penalty.
33:11It was all about the offside,
33:12but, I mean,
33:13how many times have I spoken about it today?
33:15It's the channel that Simon Murray
33:16just loves to bend a run into.
33:19It's a bread and butter ball,
33:20big long ball,
33:21hoof up the pitch
33:22and it's all about Simon Murray's pace,
33:24his willingness,
33:25determination to get there.
33:27And then as he just clips it inside,
33:29he takes a big hit from Ross Graham.
33:34Now he's down to his Dundee captain
33:36to finish the job.
33:38And meanwhile,
33:39Dundee United have brought on
33:40Kai Votheringham.
33:46More on that shortly.
33:47This now is a pressure penalty
33:49for Luke McCowan
33:51up against Jack Walton.
33:54At Tannerdyce,
33:55wearing the dark blue of Dundee,
33:57Luke McCowan
33:58eyeballs Jack Walton
34:02and eyeballs several hundred
34:03Dundee United fans behind that goal.
34:15McCowan delivers!
34:22This game means too much
34:24to just give up
34:25and walk away.
34:26This is the Dundee derby
34:28and it's now 2-2.
34:32A little man smiling now.
34:33He's a wee bit subdued for me
34:35in the match.
34:36Luke McCowan,
34:37he's normally got more influence
34:38but he's given the charge
34:40of the penalty kick
34:41and I tell you what,
34:42he's a cool customer.
34:43He doesn't try to find a corner,
34:44he's looking at Jack Walton
34:45to see if he's going to go early
34:47and just lifts it down the middle.
34:49It's a really calm, composed penalty
34:52from the Dundee captain.
34:54Just lifts it down the middle
34:57and it's game one again.
35:02Well that was the challenge
35:03made by Graham,
35:04the Dundee United fan
35:06on Murray, the Dundee fan.
35:10The lines were drawn,
35:11Murray onside.
35:14And Luke McCowan
35:16took home the penalty.
35:19Heading towards the final 10 minutes
35:21plus additional time,
35:22where are we heading next in this game?
35:24Still up, doing the defending,
35:25United claiming handball.
35:29There's McCowan.
35:33Murray gives chase.
35:35Yeah, 1-1 up here.
35:36Beckham-Gallagher just got his little people up.
35:40Tiffany.
35:42Tiffany trying to tiptoe his way through.
35:44He's made an impact since coming up.
35:47Well, this game has just turned on its head
35:49with that decision
35:51from David Dickinson.
35:52It's a correct one, I might add to it.
35:55But you can just feel the surge
35:57in Dundee's energy.
36:00Again, it's that channel ball
36:03for Simon Murray,
36:04just so willing
36:05to go into those areas.
36:11Just over 12,000 inside,
36:13a sold-out Sanadise.
36:143,000 Dundee fans here.
36:19In this derby of twists,
36:22McCowan stands over this.
36:26Another deep corner,
36:27and a header
36:28is onto the roof of the net.
36:31McKee closing in,
36:33but couldn't quite direct it on target.
36:35No, I think he's just coming away from it, isn't he?
36:37He's trying to evade the attention,
36:39a bit of pulling of the arm,
36:40just can't guide it on target.
36:44But there's a belief, I believe,
36:46in Dundee
36:47that they can go and get the winner here.
36:49You wouldn't bet against it,
36:50but I tell you,
36:51you wouldn't bet on that man's side
36:53getting one either.
36:55Which derby is anyone's right now?
36:57A confirmation of that change
36:58before the penalty was taken, by the way.
37:00Kai Fotheringham coming on to replace
37:02Vitko Chabert.
37:04Murray involved again,
37:06and it's held by Watson.
37:08I tell you what,
37:09Simon Murray's a pest, isn't he?
37:13Again, just such a basic
37:14smash up the pitch.
37:16You've got the battering ram of Curtis Main,
37:19and of course you've got the willingness
37:21and power of running of Simon Murray.
37:25Look at this,
37:26just a big boot up the pitch
37:27from McCracken.
37:29But it is,
37:30I tell you,
37:31it's chaos he's causing.
37:32Kevin Holt and
37:34Murray having a little bit of things to say.
37:36You can see the ball better.
37:37Is there a handball involved there with Graham maybe?
37:43It just bounced up the awkward,
37:44doesn't it?
37:50Well, he's had one big,
37:52big decision to make,
37:54has David Dickinson.
37:57There was just a quick check
37:58off that handball there,
37:59but the check has been completed.
38:07Simon Murray getting involved again.
38:24Some battle going on
38:26right now
38:27between those two.
38:30It makes me laugh, Simon.
38:32He put that message out early
38:33and I said
38:34it was just a wee message
38:35to say I'm going to be here
38:36for the duration of this game.
38:37And what are we now?
38:3882 minutes,
38:39he's still doing it.
38:42Coming to the professional game late,
38:43Simon Murray used to be a plumber.
38:50Another decision
38:53which David Dickinson
38:54is having to make
38:55as Mulligan
38:56hit the deck
38:57and the card is shown to Gallagher.
38:59Yeah, it just comes about Gallagher.
39:00I tell you,
39:01this boy's a powerhouse.
39:02Josh Mulligan
39:04is just so forceful
39:05and he's running
39:07not an awful lot in it,
39:08but when you're going at that pace,
39:09just the arm across his shoulder
39:11puts him off balance.
39:17It's been a difficult midfield
39:18to get into
39:19for Josh Mulligan
39:20with Szilla
39:21and Cameron
39:22and McCowan.
39:24He's still young,
39:25he's got plenty of games
39:26now under his belt.
39:27Physically,
39:28he looks properly built now
39:29and equipped
39:30to pick a state down
39:31to be one of those
39:32main midfielders.
39:38Right now,
39:39the momentum
39:40is with the visitors.
39:42McCowan
39:43is eyeing this up.
39:47It's McCowan
39:48and Morton
39:49steps across his line
39:50to deal with it.
39:51Yeah, it's ambitious.
39:53Needs to be a good one
39:54to beat the goalkeeper
39:55from there, I tell you.
39:56Takes a little nick
39:57on the way through,
39:58just off the shoulder.
40:03A couple of changes
40:04imminence from Dundee United.
40:05Louis Maltz
40:08is about to
40:09come on as
40:12Ludwinger looks to
40:13make an impact here
40:14for the hand team.
40:15Another claim of handball.
40:17It'll be a corner.
40:19Yeah, I think maybe it does
40:20strike the arm of
40:21Lukasz, but
40:23glad to see nothing given.
40:28So, Louis Maltz
40:29is coming on
40:30as is Richie
40:31Odada, the midfielder
40:33who Dundee United
40:34signed last week.
40:38And off goes
40:39Christian
40:40Trapanowski
40:42who's helped write the
40:43headlines here
40:44in this derby today.
40:46And also leaving the
40:47scene, the other
40:48goal scorer for Dundee
40:49United, Miller Thompson.
41:02So on comes
41:03Richard Odada.
41:04I mentioned he only
41:05signed
41:06last week.
41:11Central midfielder
41:12on into the action.
41:14Obunski takes the
41:15corner over the head
41:16of Odada.
41:25Still plenty forward
41:26in Tangerine
41:27as McCowen
41:28no messing about
41:29from him.
41:30Two against two here.
41:32What a touch.
41:36He made sure that
41:37that didn't progress
41:38any further, but still
41:39that looks for Mulligan.
41:41Ferry again.
41:43Well, that's been
41:44very impressive in these
41:45games for Dundee United
41:46so far, having signed
41:47from Cheltenham in the
41:48summer.
41:49He does the job.
41:50Yeah, he has.
41:55You see Dundee
41:56have kind of
41:57flattened out
41:58in their midfield
41:59four now.
42:00Marques will be
42:01allowed to go
42:02forward, but
42:03Tiffany, McCowen,
42:04Silver, Mulligan
42:05all kind of
42:06flattening out with
42:07the two main strikers
42:08for Dundee now, so
42:09real intent
42:10for Tony Docherty
42:11to go for this.
42:14They've not won
42:15at Tannerdice
42:16for two decades.
42:24Walk down the
42:25road to get here.
42:26They'll be walking
42:27back up the street
42:28to Denz Park
42:29after this.
42:37Unique element
42:38of this derby.
42:42Very involved
42:43again, looking to
42:44hold off Mulligan.
42:48Szilard
42:49and Odada
42:50both going to ground.
42:52Now the break
42:53could be on here.
42:54Fothering him.
42:55McCowen
42:56covering the ground,
42:57scoring back
42:58and winning that
42:59free kick.
43:00He knew what was coming.
43:01Ah, brilliant.
43:02I tell you, he sparked
43:03right into life.
43:04McCowen.
43:06I wondered whether
43:07it would happen with
43:08a penalty.
43:09It certainly has.
43:11He maybe didn't look
43:12favourite there.
43:13Fothering him,
43:14he just takes it
43:15in his stride,
43:16but McCowen
43:17marched on
43:18every step of the way.
43:26We're hearing
43:27we could be heading
43:28towards 6 additional
43:29minutes.
43:31Brilliant.
43:32We're getting more
43:33of this fiction.
43:34I'm sure the players
43:35will be happy about that,
43:36but we are.
43:43I'm sure people
43:44listening to us
43:45will be too happy
43:46either, but we'll
43:47carry on.
43:52Szilard.
43:53Graham.
43:56McCowen again.
43:57He's everywhere right now.
43:58He's put that through
43:59to Tiffany,
44:00who's driving
44:01Dundee United back.
44:04He's got two up
44:05against him.
44:07Ahead of
44:08Odada.
44:11Here come Dundee
44:12again.
44:14Clipped in by
44:15McCowen.
44:17McCowen again.
44:20Larkesh.
44:26Fotheringham.
44:27No way out,
44:28but there will be now
44:29for Dundee United.
44:30Dundee are starting
44:31to pick up all the
44:32second balls now.
44:33It's the breakdowns.
44:34It seems to be
44:35that blue jersey
44:36that's picking them up.
44:37Just lost control
44:38a little bit.
44:39Dundee United.
44:43I think Szilard,
44:44the change of shape.
44:45Tony Docherty's
44:46put onto the pitch here.
44:47Szilard's started
44:48to become more
44:49of an influence,
44:50making more challenges,
44:51being more aggressive
44:52in the middle of the pitch.
44:56Fortalis once again,
44:57McCracken being tested
44:58by his own players.
45:01I tell you what,
45:03if I'm John McCracken
45:04I'd be having a flight
45:05walk with my centre-backs
45:06after the game to see
45:07what's going on, lads.
45:08He's been put under
45:09a real immense pressure
45:10so many times
45:11with pass-backs.
45:19He's been signed
45:20three times now by Dundee,
45:21so they get to keep him.
45:23Graham with the throw.
45:26McCowan.
45:30Tiffany again,
45:31giving chase.
45:32He's been a handful
45:33since coming on
45:34as Scott Tiffany.
45:35Confirmation of the
45:36six additional minutes.
45:39Fotheringham.
45:42Looking to
45:43create something
45:44for United.
45:46Is there a hero
45:47waiting out there?
45:50Fotheringham.
45:56Graham.
45:57Gave the penalty away
45:58from which Dundee
45:59levelled up.
46:02It's Maltz.
46:03And McCracken
46:04gets to that.
46:06Understandable he was
46:07bundled over in the box
46:08but nothing doing
46:09with the officials.
46:10Really good header
46:11from Maltz.
46:12I think he catches
46:13young Graham, doesn't he?
46:15Just peeling on
46:16at the back post.
46:17That's a brilliant header
46:18into the space.
46:19I tell you,
46:20top defending from
46:21Fortalis in there.
46:22Under real pressure, look.
46:23No, you're not
46:24going to let him
46:25McCracken just to kill it.
46:38Both sets of fans
46:39here live in each
46:40other's pockets.
46:41There are no
46:42hiding space
46:43or there is no
46:44hiding space when
46:45you lose this derby.
46:47Many fans
46:50families are split
46:51to ride together
46:52and separate for the
46:53game and go back
46:54home together.
46:55It's the way it is.
46:56It's the way it should be.
46:58This is Murray.
47:02McCowan.
47:05Simon Murray again
47:06involved.
47:07Away by Maltz.
47:09There's Mulligan.
47:27Mulligan again.
47:32Plenty in the box
47:33here for Dundee.
47:35If they can get the
47:36ball in there.
47:38Silla.
47:39Trying to shake off
47:40Ferry.
47:44Fortalis.
47:45McGee's forward.
47:46It's Murray.
47:47Murray!
47:51There to greet him
47:52was Jack Walton.
47:54He was about to run
47:55off in celebration,
47:56potentially winning
47:57the Dundee derby.
47:59But the flag,
48:00I think,
48:01did go up.
48:02Well, he doesn't know
48:03anything about that.
48:04He's offside.
48:05And he is just offside.
48:06It's a really,
48:07really good decision.
48:09He probably takes
48:10an extra touch here.
48:12When he could probably
48:13just swing at that and
48:14smash it.
48:15He would have been
48:16offside anyway.
48:17But he wasn't to know.
48:18And neither was the
48:19goalkeeper,
48:20Jack Walton.
48:21A really good stop
48:22from the Dundee
48:23United goalkeeper.
48:25Well, this was the
48:26handball shout
48:27earlier on,
48:28which was checked
48:29by VAR.
48:30Oh.
48:31Tell you what.
48:32I didn't even notice
48:33that, you know.
48:34The game is so fast.
48:35It's grim.
48:36It just brushes,
48:37doesn't it?
48:38It shouldn't be up there,
48:39but
48:40the interpretation
48:41of the rules
48:42and the laws of the game
48:43have been relaxed,
48:44I'm glad to say.
48:45And it's Murray again.
48:46Delivery with the
48:47answer.
48:48They've been spooned
48:49that time.
48:50And Curtis May
48:51and his strike partner
48:52came racing in.
48:53But was unable
48:54to find the back
48:55of the net.
48:56Kevin Holt
48:57is getting a big hand
48:58and a big pat on the back,
48:59I think,
49:00from his goalkeeper
49:01and his defenders here.
49:02Because without his
49:03contact,
49:04to Curtis May,
49:05Dundee
49:06would be looking
49:07at three points.
49:09What a ball that is.
49:10Outside of the boot,
49:11just fed in there.
49:12And he's under
49:13so much pressure.
49:15But as it comes in,
49:16should he do better?
49:18He gets across,
49:19he should know.
49:20He gets a little
49:21toe on it.
49:22That's just needing
49:23a real
49:24solid connection
49:25with the instep.
49:26Golden chance
49:27for Curtis May.
49:28But again,
49:29compliments to Kevin Holt.
49:30He's very close attention
49:32and makes it difficult
49:33for the striker.
49:35A chance for Curtis May
49:36to become immortal
49:37by scoring
49:38a winning goal.
49:42Writing his name
49:43down in history,
49:44the history of this derby.
49:48But now,
49:49Dundee are defending.
49:52Ross Graham
49:53ready
49:54to fling this
49:55inside the box.
49:57Murray back doing
49:58the defending.
49:59Here's Graham again,
50:00by hanging ball.
50:02Odada's in there.
50:04Murray has a decision
50:05to make.
50:06And it's not a penalty,
50:07he's going the other way.
50:09I can only think
50:10it's for the initial challenge.
50:11But Louis Moult
50:12looks like he's
50:13going to swing in this.
50:15And he gets tangled up
50:16in the legs,
50:17Curtis May.
50:18It must be for
50:19the initial challenge.
50:24Ball's just
50:26booted into the box there.
50:27Look at that,
50:28that challenge there.
50:29Yeah, Louis Moult just catches
50:30Curtis May with the right elbow.
50:32Here, watch that.
50:33There you go,
50:34across the face
50:35of Curtis May.
50:37And he does wrap the legs
50:38around Louis Moult,
50:39but another brilliant decision
50:41from the officials.
50:43I tell you,
50:44I have to say,
50:45the officials have been
50:46excellent today.
50:49Into the final minute
50:50of initial time.
50:51If it stays this way,
50:52Neil, what does this say
50:53about Dundee United,
50:54their first game back
50:55at this level?
50:56Well, it says that
50:57they belong here.
50:58They've really put up
50:59a good
51:00game for themselves.
51:01They've actually
51:02stamped
51:03a wee bit of authority
51:04on this match at times,
51:05and they don't look
51:06out of place
51:07against a good
51:08Dundee side.
51:10And again,
51:11it looks like Dundee's games
51:12will be entertaining this season
51:13just as they were
51:14in the last campaign.
51:15Yeah, well,
51:16we guarantee goals,
51:17that's for sure.
51:18And if it's as
51:19entertaining
51:20as this one has been,
51:21then I'm looking
51:22forward to it.
51:30Is there another
51:31twist waiting?
51:32This is Maltz.
51:33O'Donoghue's in the middle,
51:34and there could have been
51:35another twist.
51:36Another chance
51:37goes begging.
51:39Ah, go and get your
51:40name up and right, son.
51:41What a chance.
51:42He just arrives
51:43in the box, look.
51:44He just runs
51:45off of McGee,
51:46just drifts into that.
51:47All he needs to do
51:48is make sure
51:49he's got good contact,
51:50get it on target.
51:53Not to be.
51:54The Dundee derby
51:55is back,
51:56and it was well
51:57worked out
51:58the way.
51:59Nothing
52:00to choose
52:01between them
52:02at the end.
52:03Trapanovsky
52:04fired Dundee
52:05United in front.
52:06Sebastian Palmer
52:07Holden levelled
52:08off for Dundee,
52:09and then
52:10Miller Thompson
52:11put them in front
52:12before the break.
52:13But Simon Murray,
52:14former Dundee
52:15United player,
52:16Dundee fan,
52:17won the penalty,
52:18from which
52:19Luke McCowan
52:20fired home
52:21to level things up
52:22and make it 2-2
52:23at the end.
52:24And the Dundee
52:25players will leave
52:26Teledise,
52:27Kings Park
52:28with a point
52:29in their pocket.
52:30Dundee United have shown
52:31that they
52:32more than belong
52:33at this level
52:34if that is anything
52:35to go by.
52:36Final score on the Dundee derby
52:37at Teledise,
52:38Dundee United 2,
52:39Dundee 2.
52:40Pulsating stuff
52:41as the Scottish
52:42premiership
52:43start to the season
52:44continues.
