Canines hang ten in California dog surfing competition
Canines and their owners competed Saturday, August 3, 2024, in the World Dog Surfing Championships in Pacifica, California.
The hounds entered in the contest were categorized by sizes (small, medium, large and extra large) while judges and spectators gathered on the beach to watch them hang ten.
Some dogs, like a 14-year-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Delilah, were seasoned veterans with more than a decade of experience hitting the waves in the annual contest. Some spectators, like San Francisco resident Samantha Berlanga, were first-time attendees intrigued by the competition.

00:39Someone in a group chat mentioned that there were going to be dog surfing and I was really
00:44intrigued.
00:45I was like, how many times do you get to see dog surfing?
00:48So, I woke up my roommate at 9 a.m. and I was like, do you want to go watch dog surf?
00:53And she was like, hell yeah.
00:54So, that's what brought us here.
00:56So, this is Iza and I'm David Fasoli, surf dog from Pleasanton, California.
01:22You know, we started off coming here our first year.
01:25We just randomly got what's going on in the bay and it was a dog surfing competition.
01:30She was in the pool on a surfboard and in the ocean on a surfboard.
01:33We decided to sign up and it's to raise money for dogs in need, awareness for dogs in need.
01:38So, that was kind of the draw for us.
01:42My friend's daughter's in here with us and we do a little tandem.
01:46So, it's to put a smile on kids' faces, people's faces, everybody's faces and that's pretty
01:51much what it is for us.
01:52It's kind of cool.
01:53It's kind of like little medals like the Olympics and stuff like that kind of go along with
01:55it too, especially right now with the Olympics going on.
01:58So, that's kind of fun and exciting as well.
