01:41Did you know about that and what does it mean to you to be the first in your country to

01:47It means a lot to me.

01:48I did it indoors as well.

01:52So I definitely knew that St. Louisians would be watching and hoping that they could get

01:57their first Olympic gold, well, Olympic medal and it came as a goal.

02:10On your right, you mentioned a lot about your coach Flo.

02:16Since your win, how pivotal has he been in your gold medal today?

02:21Can you describe a little bit your relationship with him?

02:25So I met Coach Flo in 2019.

02:27He recruited me to come to the University of Texas, Austin.

02:31Earlier on this year, especially after the win indoors, I was just so hard on myself

02:36and feeling so much pressure, feeling like I have to go out there and represent my country

02:41again.

02:42Just seeing the amount of people that supported me.

02:44But he helped me turn that pressure into motivation and he's been my rock.

02:49He's been there with me through the ups and the downs, through the hard times.

02:54I'm just happy.

02:55He never gave up on me.

02:57And he's like a dad to me, a mentor to me.

02:59I'm just really happy.

03:21I usually wake up so early on race days to just journal, to write down something.

04:09I did just focus on just myself and my race plan and just trusting what my coach told

04:29You raced next to Sha'Carri in the semi-final and you beat her.

04:33Does that do anything to set you up for the final as far as building confidence or sending

04:39a message, anything like that?

04:41I don't think it's about sending a message.

04:43This year, I've really been trying to focus on just my lane and just working on my execution

04:48only and not thinking about who's next to me.

04:50Sometimes when I do, I tend to panic, but I think so far this year, I've just had such

04:56a good strategy and just focusing on my execution only and nobody next to me.

05:00So I think that has worked in my favor.

05:12Last year, worlds didn't go as you wanted, fifth place.

05:15What did you do differently this year?

05:16Well, I didn't have the long collegiate season.

05:19I think I ran over 50 races last year, but I think not having trials and my coach really

05:26just being particular in how I race this year has been a huge advantage for me.

05:33But I think the main difference is just how much I race this year and we're really preparing

05:38for the Olympics this year instead of, well, last year it was really about NCAAs and whatever

05:44is left for world championship.

05:45But I think this year, the main goal was the Olympics.

05:58Have you thought about how your life might change when you wake up tomorrow?

06:02No.

06:04I'm still trying to think of what just happened.

07:19I think 180,000 people live there.

07:22So what pride do you have being from such a small place?

07:26You know, I feel honored to just be an ambassador for my country.

07:31Not many persons know about St. Lucia.

07:33Sometimes I can be on an Uber, and they ask me where I'm from,

07:36just hear my accent, and they'll be like, where's St. Lucia?

07:39And I think now, being an Olympic champion,

07:41I'm sure people is going to be searching for St. Lucia now.

07:44And I just feel so honored to just wear, you know,

07:47my country's name across my chest and just be an ambassador for them.

07:50And I'm sure they're celebrating right now.

07:53I'm just looking forward to the celebration when I go home with them.
