00:00I'm Carrie. And I'm Chris. And we are the band Bad Bad Hats from Minneapolis. We're

00:14here in Chicago opening for Mom Jeans and we can't wait to show you this car.

00:20Alright here we are in the driver's seat. Chris is the best driver in the band. I'm the best

00:27driver. I drive the most. Maybe those go hand in hand. But I feel like I'm a pretty good co-pilot.

00:35I sit right here. I use one of these cables in down here. It's a little tricky.

00:44You got to reach a little bit. Wait. Okay. You got to just reach it. We can edit this right.

00:51It's got to reach a little and plug it in. This is the only bad thing about them. There we go.

00:56Now I'm hooked up. I can charge with this but I can play through the machine too.

01:01Every once in a while it gets a little, it gets a little irritated. It gives you error 5.

01:07Error 5. You got to unplug and re-plug. But once you're locked in, box, box, box. I got the

01:14playlist going. Whatever my driver needs. You need to sit. Just making sure we got the map going.

01:26Everything's good. Generally it is driver's choice for the playlist. I will say my algorithm has been

01:33ruined for all time. Sometimes we like to pick a theme. I know in the past we've gotten, gotten

01:42going on some like hard rock from the early 2000s. That's always nice. Our friends, the Beths, do a

01:52thing called the Baker's Dozen where they listen to one song 13 times. In a row. In a row. We did

02:00that one time with the song Prisoner of the Highway by Ronnie Millsap and yeah there is a

02:07point like where you think you can't take it anymore and that's usually like I think that's

02:12around like 8, 8 or 9. But then you kind of cross over and then you just like let it wash over you

02:20and then by the end everyone's singing along. That 13th time. Me a prisoner of the highway.

02:28All together now. So yeah. Yeah. What else? Today we listened to the new Mannequin Pussy album.

02:35It's the favorite. Great album. Yeah. And Kacey Musgraves. Kacey Musgraves. Always something new.

02:41Always something different. That's right. We share with each other. These are our sunglasses that the

02:47driver wears. They're called DJ wraparound. Yeah. Does that make sense? They're from the 90s.

02:54Original. Yeah. And they're polarized. Polarized yeah. So they gotta be. Yeah so that's nice. So

02:59whoever's the driver has to wear them. They have to wear them. We also say that it makes you look

03:04like a softball coach. Yeah it does. Yeah. Gotta hustle. Gotta hustle. Gotta hustle out there.

03:11So we got our we got our Bill's hat over there. We got a lot of Bill's fans here. This is Chris's

03:15hat but by way of my Bill's fandom. My family's from Buffalo, New York. Sort of born into Bill's

03:23fandom. Highs and lows. Highs and lows with it. But we have to represent. We love being Bill's fans

03:31and this year is our year. This year is our year. That's right Chris. That's what we say. We got this guy.

03:38Somebody gave us this. I don't remember where. Yeah it's kind of creepy but it fits just really

03:43perfectly. I think it was Halloween. It was yeah. I think it was on Halloween. But it's lived up here for a

03:49while now. Yeah it just fits perfectly right here. Sometimes if we get a happy meal we put the toy up

03:54there for a while. Yeah we do. Yeah just a little mascot for the road. Um this is okay. We used to

04:00have a phone holder here. The brand was Keenu. Keenu. Keenu. And we got really attached to Keenu.

04:10Even though Keenu was not structurally sound. Keenu often fell over. Um it's dangerous because

04:17the phone's underneath your feet. Underneath the brake pedal. Um so we had to we had to do away

04:22with Keenu. But we still refer to this one as Keenu. Like it's like feels like that's like our

04:27boomer thing that we just like continue to call. Look at that. Any machine like this a Keenu. Um but

04:33this one's really nice. The other one used to be here. So in the winter time your phone would like

04:38be like I'm too hot. And just like shut off. Um so this was this one's much nicer. It's much nicer.

04:46Up here. But yeah sometimes sometimes his arm gets a little tired. Look at that. It's not going

04:51anywhere. Right now it's good though. Right now it's good. Look at that. Yeah. And uh we got our we got our uh

04:57Midwest. Yeah. Culver's. Yeah. Went to the. Culver's shake. You gotta do that. The largest Culver's in America today.

05:04We did. We did. Um it was 20% larger than the other ones. Actually not that much larger. Yeah. But it was it

05:11wasn't the biggest one. Okay welcome to the back seat. Um this is kind of where this is like the

05:17kids table of the van. This is where you can kind of let loose. You can relax. Um we refer to it as the

05:22cave. Um you know sometimes you get a little tired on tour. You need a little time to yourself. We're

05:28together a lot. Um and so the rules are you know the drivers obviously needs to pay attention

05:34because they're driving. And then the co-pilot they also need to be kind of um on their game.

05:39Directing. Playlisting. Um entertaining the driver. But when you're back here you can you can do

05:44whatever you want. You can take a nap. You can put your headphones on. Go to a different world. Um

05:50we used to have a machine that hooked up to the headrest that you could put an ipod pad on. We

05:57thought that would be great because they could like watch movies you know like the 90s in the

06:01minivan. Um but it also like was not greatly constructed. So like the ipad would like move

06:08like this like the whole drive. Um and it made everyone sick. Like our drummer at the time um

06:16was like was like forever changed actually by that. Remember that? He was like I had like I

06:21had developed motion sickness for the first time from watching the ipad move like that.

06:25So we got rid of that. Um it was a good idea. Though this it is funny when there are only three of us

06:31it's this seat that gets used. Not this seat. It's a little tough because you can't reach the

06:40the climate controls but here's the thing. The gas is on that side. So sometimes you try to open

06:48the door open the gas cap and the van's like no. Don't you be doing that. Um how's it feel Chris?

06:55How's it feel? It feels good. It feels good. You know on this trip it's uh Joey and Colby are back here.

07:01Yeah. You know they're the wild ones. Yeah. Chris is kind of Chris is the tallest one um

07:08in the band so I don't think he likes it back here as much. No. You see? No he doesn't. Um this we're

07:16doing a short run just uh uh two days in Chicago with mom jeans but if this were a long tour um

07:23right here we'd have our snacks. This is where the snacks sit. We have a little bag that we

07:27fill with chips, um granola, oatmeal cups. Just stuff to keep us sustained for the long drives.

07:37Um cup holders. That's pretty nice. Um sometimes this is packed full of stuff but it's like a it's

07:45like a nice moment when you like sell enough vinyl that there's not vinyl sitting here anymore

07:52and you go oh yeah luxury. Now we're talking. A little hand sanitizer so when you're eating

08:00um your taco bell in the darkness at at the end of the night back here you can wash up. Um

08:08that's nice. Got everything. We got some shades. Yeah look at this. When the paparazzi. Yeah. When

08:15there's too many. Yeah and we're like okay. There's too many things. Hey get get out here.

08:21Here we are um in the back. It's usually just a bunch of gear. Yeah. That's all there is to it.

08:28We got a fine tuned system. Drums on the left. Yeah. Bass amp behind that. Yeah. Bunch of merch

08:35down the middle. Guitars and everything guitar and suitcases on the right. Yeah it works out

08:40pretty well. Works pretty good. Yeah we've had um um you can explain our our special merch

08:46packing system. Merch we use bins from Target. Uh-huh. They're like five dollars. Plastic bins

08:52with the drawer. Yeah. We've had the same bins for 10 years. Yep. Got our money's worth. Yep. Each

08:58drawer a different size. We get compliments everywhere from all sorts of bands. We do.

09:04That's our hot tip. But they fit perfectly down the middle um so that's really nice.

09:10There are these little like compartments here. I don't know what's in there. There's nothing in

09:16there. Yeah. There's nothing in there. It's not very convenient. You usually can't access it when

09:19it's everything's full but maybe we could leave each other a surprise. Rightful. Um we have a

09:26blue bag with jumper cables. Um some rope. I don't know what we're gonna do with the rope

09:34but we have rope. We've got rope in case something happens. I think there's a first aid kit in there

09:38maybe. Uh-huh. Yeah. Safety first. So thank you so much um for being with us here. I'm Kari. This is
