00:30Hello everybody, greetings from Paris. This is Carlos Montero. We have half an hour ahead
00:55to talk about everything that is going on here in the Olympics 2024. Today was a good
01:02day for Latin America. We got two medals, one gold, one silver. Gold from Brazil, silver
01:10from Mexico. We are going to talk in detail about this. But first, let's see what our
01:14people have for us today. Eduardo Rigonesi, he was early this morning with the Mexican
01:20guys in the diving competition and of course you gave them good luck and they won a medal. Eduardo.
01:26Hello Carlos. As you said, a very good day for the Latin crowd. We've been following our athletes
01:35in all the disciplines, in all the sports. And as you mentioned, we are bringing luck to them.
01:41Whenever we go, there's somebody winning a medal for the Latin American community. Today was not
01:47an exception. We were there with the Mexican team. We were there talking to them also. And of course,
01:52we will bring you all the details just in a little bit, Carlos. Thank you, Eduardo. We'll be back
01:59with you in a few minutes. An interesting place, we are talking about medals. When an athlete wins
02:07a medal, they have the chance to go to places called Parcs du Champs. That's where they have
02:14a chance to see all the tourists who want to get an autograph, take pictures. A lot of people
02:20there. Charlie Montero went there and he's going to stay with us right now. Charlie, go ahead. What's
02:27going on? Hi Carlos. How are you? We've already made it past the halfway point in the Olympics
02:34of Paris 2024. So I wanted to ask people on the street, walking around, what they thought about
02:39the Olympics so far? But wait, we'll find out more later on. Stay tuned, guys.
02:47That's exactly. Thank you, Charlie. We'll be back with you in any minute. Today, Friday, we are a week,
02:54seven days from the opening ceremony. But before the opening ceremony, two days before,
03:01there was competition. And you know what competition started this Olympics 2024? Soccer.
03:08And today is going to be a very important day for soccer because we are going to define the
03:12quarterfinals. And it's going to be a fantastic match. If you like football, it's going to play
03:18Argentina against France. Here, the French are the home team and Argentina, you know, people
03:26from France, they don't like it much. It's going to be a great, great game. Also, Paraguay is going
03:30to play against Egypt. But let's go back to the main story of today. That's when we wake up.
03:37Diving competition. We see Mexico get the silver medal, thanks to Juan Selassie and Osmar Oliver.
03:45Eduardo has a chance to talk to them. And he's back with us. Eduardo,
03:51what a nice sensation to leave Paris with a silver medal.
03:57Indeed, Carlos, very nice sensation for the Mexican couple. They both were at Tokyo 2020.
04:04They didn't receive any medals on that opportunity. But today was a day. It was a
04:11final day where they got their Olympic medal. It was a silver medal. They came just behind the
04:17Chinese couple with scoring 444.03 points and just above the British couple that got the third place.
04:27Mexico becoming a powerhouse at diving. This is the 16th
04:31medal, historic medal at this type of disciplines for Mexico. So they're doing
04:36very, very well. Another thing that we want to talk about Mexico is the fans. There's a lot of
04:41fans on the street. Everywhere we go, there's a lot of Mexican fans. They're very loyal. They're
04:46very faithful. And we had a chance to talk to some of them. And this is what they told us.
04:50We are so, so happy. We are really proud of the guys. Osmar and Juan, they did it excellent.
04:56They excite us. It was my first experience in diving. It was amazing. I've never seen it before
05:02alive. But in home before, in other Olympics, it was like, wow. And being here, it was like,
05:08we really feel it. As we mentioned, it was a very tight battle. They were facing the
05:18Chinese couple point by point. They were struggling. At the end, they only got the silver
05:23medal. Very good for them. Great Britain got the bronze medal. We also were able to talk to those
05:30athletes. They were very, very excited. They were still shaking out of emotion. And this is what
05:35they talked to us on the cameras of Telesur. We talked to the British athletes. Let's hear from
05:39them. It's relief. It feels fantastic. And a bronze medal is just wonderful.
05:45Knowing the pressure, I know I got a medal at Youth Olympics and it felt like I came into that
05:50just relaxed and I could just do the best I can. We're here. It felt like I had so much pressure
05:55on knowing that Jack's got three Olympic medals, knowing the potential of getting a medal,
05:59knowing we have three medals already. I know we're the last thing prepared to step up. And
06:04it feels like such a relief, but also just so happy for me and my family and my friends who
06:09were in the crowd today.
06:10Looking at you, how did you go from the concentration, excitement and now coming down?
06:15How is that? What's going on in your head?
06:17I don't think I have come down. I'm just got so much adrenaline now, so much. I'm out of breath.
06:22Just, oh, it feels so good.
06:24Yeah, it's something that we, you know, I said to Anthony when we were on the podium,
06:27just to drink it all in and just enjoy the experience because this is, you know, potentially
06:32a once in a lifetime thing. Who knows what the future holds? So it's, you know, it's
06:36just a wonderful day for us. And I really want to just make the most of it and experience
06:40everything we can together as a team.
06:42Awesome. Thank you, guys.
06:43Congratulations.
06:44Thank you.
06:50It's very moving. It's very touching to see these athletes that are Olympic athletes,
06:54very excited. He was shaking out of emotion. He was out of breath. I think that's what
07:00the Olympics bring, even for professional athletes.
07:02They're still young men, they're very young, and they get very excited, emotional. So it's
07:08very moving to see. Let's talk a little bit about Mexico. I said 16 medals at diving.
07:15There's a bit of controversy because three years ago, the Mexican Swimming Federation
07:18got disbanded. There was a case of corruption. There was money that was stolen. So the Mexican
07:25Federation got disbanded and the athletes went under the control of the Mexican Swimming
07:30Federation. And the athletes went under the World Aquatics, which is a foreign organization.
07:36Because of this fact, the Mexican CONADE, which is kind of the Ministry of Sports there,
07:42denied them financing. So the Mexican athletes did not have money to train. They don't have
07:47money to prepare for the Olympics. They had to find money on their own. So this makes this medal
07:52even more spectacular. The Mexican athletes are true warriors, they're true competitors.
07:59Despite everything that happened, they still came here to Paris 2024 and got the silver medal for
08:05the Latin people, for all of us mainly, because we're all excited for any medal that South
08:11American athletes or Latin athletes can get. The energy is good. It's great.
08:19What's been the best moment until now? Until now, the entrance of Brazil in the river,
08:24in the opening of the ceremony. We watched the Danish bike riders and saw the bikes. And then
08:33we waited because we were told that some of the riders were coming. And then we met some of them
08:39and we took pictures with them and had autographs on another. Yeah, that's awesome. For you guys
08:45too, I guess. One of the other things that was very great was, if you won a medal, you
08:53get a shirt on and you can come. Yeah, exactly. And as well as the whole mood between all the
09:04people who are here to experience the Olympics games and everyone talking with each other,
09:08there's just a good mood and feel and everything. Yeah, it's been great. What's been the best event
09:14for you? What's like the most memorable moment? Women's three-on-three basketball, the best event.
09:18Really? Yes. Why? Because my mom coaches. And five-on-five is also great. It's been an amazing
09:26week so far. Yeah. What's been the best event so far, the best moment with the Olympics?
09:31Our guy from Canada, our boxer, he just won his quarterfinal fight and he's guaranteed a medal
09:37now. And fights on Sunday. If he wins, he goes for gold. Well, what do we expect, Carlos? Of course,
09:44they're having a good time. People from all around the world have come here to Paris to see their
09:48favorite sports and you can tell how happy they actually are. Back to you, Carlos.
09:56Thank you, Charlie. Thank you very much. Let's go to see the medal count. So far in first place,
10:02hasn't been a change. China still having 13 gold medals, 27 all together. USA is getting some
10:10strength. It's in second place. The USA has nine gold medals, 41 all together. Then France,
10:19then Great Britain and then Australia. We go a little bit down. We are going to see some of our
10:25countries that got some. Brazil has one gold, three bronze and three silver. Then we have
10:34Argentina that has one, one gold. Ecuador, one gold. And that's the way Latin America is doing
10:43in these Olympics. Thank you very much. You can see that in the application of the Olympics Paris
10:492020. It's worth to follow them to see what's going on. They have information in the moment
10:55immediately. Thank you very much. It was a great pleasure to be with you. Have a wonderful evening.
11:01See you tomorrow at the same time. Hasta la vista. Bye-bye.
