The Olympics have returned for Paris 2024. The games are always the televised event of the year, whatever year they are in. The Star asked Sheffield residents what their favourite event to watch is.
Transcript
00:00Thank you, it's Alistair from the Sheffield Star. I'm no more than coming out today and asking
00:03people how they found the Olympics so far. It's kind of the television event of the year no matter
00:07what year it's in. Have you found it so far? What have you watched? We've watched pretty much
00:12everything really. We've watched kind of things throughout the day, most days really,
00:18from like rowing to judo and we've pretty much enjoyed a lot of the stuff we've watched haven't we?
00:25Yeah we on the first day tried to watch four sports at once which was a bit much
00:30but we've toned it down a little bit. We had a tv, a laptop, a phone and the radio so it
00:37overstimulated us so we've toned it down to one sport at a time now but yeah it's been great. I
00:42loved the triathlon when Alex Yee won and he looked like he was maybe not going to get a medal.
00:48Made an amazing comeback, it was amazing. Yeah and I've quite enjoyed the rowing. We've had a
00:54few close wins and a few close losses but also the swimming has also been quite tight as well
00:59and Adam Peaty doing quite well not getting a goal but still a pretty great race to watch.
01:04It's all been pretty close. Is it more enjoyable to watch a sport where you can possibly see
01:08yourself giving it a go or is it better to watch a sport where you have no idea how you could
01:13achieve that if you wanted to? I sat and watched the BMX freestyle thing and I certainly wouldn't
01:19do that again. I found that quite entertaining so yeah looking at different sports that we don't
01:25know much about has been quite good. Yeah there's some pretty unique stuff in there like all the
01:29kind of three versus three basketball that you don't really see in this country at all.
01:35Getting a bit of an insight into that but then yeah there's a lot of stuff in there.
01:40I completely forgot golf was in there. I didn't know golf was in there. Yeah and I was just like
01:45I completely forgot that was in there but you can see that old men could go out and play that so I
01:49think it's a bit for everybody really and you've got people older 50 year olds playing table tennis
01:56you've got young people like 15 year olds doing skateboard so there's a bit of everything for
02:01everyone really. Smashing. Yeah we've been watching it quite a lot like as soon as I finish work I'll
02:07stick it on. It's just quite nice to have on in the background you get to think about what you're
02:12going to watch. It's not like going on Netflix or whatever and then yeah I've just been enjoying it
02:18all really like the swimming's been good really entertaining obviously like athletics is the
02:24highlight isn't it yeah so everything I've watched in the meantime has been pretty good.
02:29What's been your favourite? I've liked watching women's rugby sevens.
02:35I've watched them all that's quite exciting. Gymnastics.
02:40I've watched Simone. Amazing.
02:42I don't know who my highlights are.
02:44Yeah.
02:46Avon Connor.
02:48Eurosport. I've paid for Eurosport.
02:50I'll try that one.
02:52Just if the BBC are showing to a poor I'll just switch over.
02:54I've watched a bit of BMX in the night.
02:56Yeah yeah. Loving it.
