Balkans battle wildfires from prolonged heatwave in Europe

Experts say it's time to act to avoid more climate-based disasters across Europe and urge European leaders to address the concerning trends in weather across the continent.

00:00The south of Europe has been battling numerous wildfires as a result of a prolonged heat
00:06wave crisis. Serbia sent helicopters to North Macedonia who have been fighting wildfires
00:12burning out of control for over 20 days.
00:17Its neighboring country, Albania, also struggles to get the blazes under control. Strong winds
00:23accelerated the spread of the flames in the two countries and many residents were forced
00:28to evacuate.
00:31In Croatia, fires that erupted in the Dalmatian coast also resulted in the evacuation of residents
00:37but no casualties were reported.
00:41Hundreds of firefighters and ten Canadair planes were deployed to tackle the fires.
00:46The Croatian fire brigade has since confirmed that all have been successfully contained.
00:53Extreme heat continues to scorch other parts of Europe as well. Multiple cities in Spain
00:57currently have orange warnings for high temperatures.
