00:00I like how you said you spend every minute together on set, as if you're not the last one in every day and the first one out.
00:07Am I the last one in and the first one out?
00:10Usually. But I get it. You're tenured, man.
00:13I'm tenured.
00:14You're tenured.
00:15Rob Lowe and his son John Owen Lowe are back for a second season of their Netflix comedy, Unstable.
00:20The pair sat down with The Hollywood Reporter to talk all about the new season.
00:24What would you say is the biggest difference between season one of the show and now with season two?
00:29There's a lot. I think we really leaned into the sort of meta of our relationship as father and son.
00:39And we dialed up the hard comedy a lot.
00:44I think sometimes comedies, if they're lucky, get a chance to build and really find their voice.
00:52And I think we really have in this second season.
00:55Yeah, I mean, I agree. I think you look at shows that were inspiration for us.
01:02You know, 30 Rock, Parks, New Girl, whatever.
01:05There's something when you binge watch the catalog of those old shows, they grow.
01:09And it's not that the first season isn't an important piece of it because it sets the table.
01:15But I think we really, really found stride in the second season.
01:19Not only did the father-son duo co-star on the show, they created the series.
01:23Alongside TV veteran comedy writer-producer Victor Fresco.
01:27They also both are among the show's executive producers.
01:30Now that you're two seasons into the show, how would you say that working on it has changed your father-son relationship?
01:36More patience. You know, it's added.
01:40There's some respect, I think, that is required when you have to work on something that intimately and closely together.
01:50I guess that implies there was not respect before.
01:53But new levels of respect for work ethic and for, you know, craft and stuff like that.
02:00That I've only ever seen peripherally from visiting him on sets or something like that.
02:05And I think that would be the main one.
02:08And then maybe also just I think he feels like he's invited to comment on my wardrobe and hairstyle more now, which is frustrating.
02:15They also opened up about the best part of working on the series.
02:19Honestly, how much fun it is.
02:21How much fun, you know, being able to work with the amazing group of actors that we have.
02:29And how much fun we have together and how naturally gifted this ensemble is.
02:34And that we make each other laugh every second of being on set.
02:43And I'm spoiled, man.
02:46I mean, I worked with Aziz Ansari and Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman and Rashida Jones.
02:52I mean, I'm spoiled.
02:54So to be able to have that every day is really cool.
02:58I like how you said you spend every minute together on set as if you're not the last one in every day and the first one out.
03:05Am I the last one in and the first one out?
03:08Usually.
03:10But I get it. You're tenured, man.
03:12I'm tenured.
03:13You're tenured. That's the angle.
03:14Tenured.
03:15Come on.
03:16That's right.
03:17You bring the newbies in and they hold their coffees and wait.
03:22He's a good sport.
03:23No, he's a good sport.
03:25I think.
03:26Season 2 of Unstable is now streaming on Netflix.
