00:00Welcome back to Newswire here on Sports Grid, boy, they're keeping Bill Bender busy.
00:07Bill Bender busy? That's some good alliteration here on Newswire.
00:11As Bill is ready to cover the sports going on in Paris right now.
00:15He's got his eye on soccer. We'll break it all down for you.
00:17What's going on, Bill? Welcome back to the show. Good to see you again.
00:20Hey, not much, Craig. How are you?
00:22I'm doing well. All right, so tomorrow we've got this big match.
00:26And boy, it seems like an even match tomorrow between Team USA and Morocco.
00:31In fact, Morocco, most people feel, will win this match.
00:34They're plus 120 on the money line against Team USA. They're plus 210.
00:39The match is tomorrow at 9 a.m. Confidence level for Team USA has been low throughout.
00:46This is probably, though, their best opportunity to win one if they can, Bill.
00:51Yeah, they have a chance to get a top four finish in the Olympics for the first time since 2000.
00:56And that would be significant, not just for the program, but for the movement of soccer.
01:01I've always thought that Team USA needed to make a run to either a gold medal game here in the Olympics
01:08or a semifinal run in the World Cup for that to really legitimize what they're doing.
01:13Morocco is going to be a tough matchup, though. They've played really good defense.
01:17They've only allowed three goals in the entire full play. Beat Argentina.
01:22That was a huge upset for them. And Team USA, they've scored a lot in those last two games.
01:29So here would be the bet I would take. I mean, I think Morocco will win the game.
01:34But I would not be surprised if Team USA, if you want a sneaky little bet in there, maybe plus 120 to get that first goal.
01:41Yeah, I think right now that's probably a better look than taking Team USA
01:46because I'm not so confident that they're going to come out of this thing.
01:48I kind of like a tie, by the way, a plus 240 coming from somebody that knows nothing, by the way.
01:53All right. So to win the gold, Team USA is nowhere near the favorite here.
01:57I mean, they would take a bronze any day of the week right now.
01:59France is the favorite, a plus 220. Spain plus 280. Argentina plus 450.
02:04Then you have Morocco. And then, Bill, here on the FanDuel Sportsbook,
02:07is a major drop off from Morocco to everybody else.
02:11So that's kind of where the value could lie potentially to win the gold.
02:15But I don't know. I just don't see it. It feels like one of those top three teams.
02:19Right. And it feels like to me France and Spain, the way that they're playing,
02:23that's some carryover from the Euro tournament, especially for Spain, the way that they look.
02:28I mean, France being the home team, that would be something for them.
02:32Like I said, Morocco did beat Argentina, but Argentina could pay those back.
02:36So I think as much as I would like to see Team USA in the United States
02:40make a run to the gold medal game, and it would be a great surprise,
02:45any of those teams plus 1,000 or more, you're banking on a lot of things to happen.
02:50Yeah, I would agree with you. And those are the odds there to win.
02:53Paraguay, if you want to take a big shot, 18 to 1 there.
02:56All right. So, you know, the other match that's going on right now is
03:01we have another one between France and Argentina,
03:05and that game could potentially mean something for the gold or the silver,
03:10as France is the favorite at minus 110.
03:13Argentina is plus 300.
03:16A tie is plus 250.
03:19Is there something on the board here that you like, Bill,
03:22or is it one of those exotics in terms of the props?
03:25Yeah, a little much of the prop, you know, a tie.
03:28It makes sense to me.
03:29That's one of those where they could go back and forth,
03:31and then it goes from there.
03:32But, you know, if you want to take a swing on Argentina, you can.
03:36They're definitely, you know, back against the wall,
03:39still a very talented team, can make that run.
03:42But when you're going up against the home team on their turf,
03:45it makes it a little bit tougher.
03:48All right. Now the other thing that we have going on,
03:50and I know you're following this closely as well,
03:52is Team USA's women's basketball team.
03:55So with the men taking a break,
03:56we have the women playing Belgium today at 3 o'clock Eastern.
04:00And very similar to the game against South Sudan yesterday,
04:03Team USA is playing against a team that they should beat pretty handedly.
04:07They're 23-and-a-half point favorites against Belgium,
04:10with a total of 164-and-a-half.
04:12I know several players on Team USA.
04:15Bill, I know nothing of Team Belgium.
04:17So tell me what kind of odds they have of keeping this game even close today.
04:21Well, I feel like I'm going to give you the same speech I did yesterday,
04:24which was not bad with the exception of Julien Bede not playing.
04:29So I missed that.
04:30But everything else wasn't bad yesterday in the analysis.
04:34Team USA beat Belgium 81-79 in qualifying.
04:37Now Asia Wilson didn't play in that game,
04:39much like Kevin Durant didn't play the first time they played South Sudan.
04:43That's going to be a huge difference maker,
04:45give them some edge on the rebounding.
04:48Team USA scored 100 points or more in each of their games,
04:51except against Belgium and Germany.
04:53So if you're looking at that over, it could be a little dicey,
04:55like it was yesterday, right down to the last shot.
04:59That said, I mean, Belgium doesn't have the talent that Team USA does.
05:03They do have Julie Vanloo, Mystics guard, kind of a role player,
05:07can get some assists, played well the first time.
05:09There's a prop I might hit.
05:10She may score more than 15 points in this game.
05:14But, I mean, with Asia Wilson out there,
05:16I think it's going to make it that much tougher for Belgium to control the glass.
05:21I mean, Brianna Stewart and Asia Wilson will be able to control the rebounding in this game.
05:26Yeah, Asia Wilson minus 166 to score 20 points.
05:30Real quick, Bill, to win the silver medal,
05:33you've got a lot of different options here in terms of the women.
05:36Let's run them through real quick.
05:37I know we don't have a lot of time.
05:38France would be minus 110.
05:40They're also one of the favorites to win the gold.
05:42So it seems like Fando's telling us, Bill, France is going to win gold or silver.
05:46Any other options here?
05:47Well, Spain, just like I did with the soccer, I'll stick there.
05:50I think they could have an upset in the medal round when we get to that.
05:54France is playing really well.
05:56Germany's another team that held Team USA to less than 100 points.
06:00So they're also a team to watch that I could see make a run there.
06:04But, yeah, I think you're betting on all of these teams.
06:07I mean, if you're betting, you're kind of looking at second place.
06:10This Team USA team, especially with Stewart and Wilson down low and controlling the game,
06:15they're going to be really tough to beat.
06:17All right.
06:18Great stuff, Bill.
06:19As always, we'll catch up with you very soon.
06:22I'm going to guarantee next week you and I are going to do some college football.
06:26All right?
06:27I'm putting it out there.
06:28We've got to hit it next week.
06:29Thanks again for coming on.
06:30Hey, no problem.
06:31I can't wait for week zero just like you.
