00:00Don't make me cry.
00:01Then, Celine's emotional new documentary about living with stiff person syndrome.
00:08That famous voice silenced.
00:10It's like somebody's strangling you.
00:12Extra!
00:13What's up? Talking about Matthew Perry? That's coming up.
00:16But first, Celine Dion praying she will one day sing again.
00:21Hi folks, welcome to Extra. I'm Billy Bush and that's where we begin.
00:25Here's Mona.
00:27We are.
00:32Is the sound man okay?
00:34That is the symphony that is Celine.
00:37This is her struggle today.
00:39What was happening to your voice when you were trying to sing?
00:42It's like somebody's strangling you.
00:44It's like somebody's pushing your larynx, pharynx, this way.
00:48So it's like you're talking like that and you cannot go high or lower.
00:53Her voice like no other.
01:02My voice is the conductor of my life.
01:08A voice that sold out over 1,000 Vegas shows.
01:11Sold 250 million albums worldwide.
01:15And scored 11 number one hits.
01:17Until...
01:19It was silenced.
01:28I've been diagnosed with a very rare neurological disorder.
01:32And I wasn't ready to say anything before.
01:35But I'm ready now.
01:36Last spring, the 56-year-old superstar canceled her tour
01:40and stopped singing publicly after being diagnosed with stiff person syndrome,
01:45an incurable illness that causes muscle stiffness and painful spasms.
01:49When your voice brings you joy, you're the best of yourself.
01:52I need my instrument.
01:56But will that instrument entertain the world again?
01:59We may soon have answers when the Music Sensation's new Amazon Prime documentary
02:03I Am Celine Dion streams next month.
02:06And you record.
02:07It sounds great.
02:09But when you go on stage,
02:11But when you go on stage,
02:13it will be greater.
02:19And it has been more than four years since she performed with an audience.
02:23Now, Celine's documentary cameras reveal that once vibrant superstar
02:27is still visibly shattered.
02:29I think we did create our own magic.
02:34It's not hard to do a show, you know?
02:37It's hard to cancel a show.
02:39And desperate for a comeback.
02:41I'm working hard every day.
02:44But I have to admit, it's been a struggle.
02:47I miss it so much.
02:49The people.
02:51Celine's been slowly but surely coming back into the spotlight.
02:55Her rare appearance at the Grammys with her son in February
02:58made headlines around the world.
03:00And she just posed for the cover of French Vogue.
03:03But the pain of her medical crisis is real.
03:05A battle she fights every day.
03:07I had broken ribs at one point.
03:09Because sometimes when it's very severe,
03:12it can break a rib as well.
03:14A spasm so hard that it can break a rib?
03:16Hoda Kotb just spoke to Celine in Las Vegas
03:19for a primetime special airing June 11th on NBC.
03:22She sang a little for you, too.
03:24She did.
03:25Because I think she's been reluctant.
03:27Imagine having that voice and then wondering how it's going to sound.
03:30And it sounded incredible to me.
03:32And by the first look at her documentary out June 25th,
03:35Celine is determined for us all to hear her get her life back,
03:39get back on top, and regain her voice.
03:42I miss them.
03:44If I can't run, I'll walk.
03:46If I can't walk, I'll crawl.
03:48I won't stop.
03:50I won't stop.
03:51It's all coming back to me now.
04:01All right, now to another story.
