00:00They say that dancing is like talking because every step is like expressing emotions.
00:06Aside from that, it is also a way to introduce the culture.
00:10That's why this morning, we are with the folk dance group of Simeona F. Chan Yungco,
00:15Lahing Kayong Manggima, Nanayaw ng Marikina, or SFC-LKM.
00:19We will be joined by Sir Vincent Sullivan, Executive Director of SFC, Lahing Kayong Manggima, Nanayaw ng Marikina.
00:25Good morning to all of you.
00:27Good morning to all of our viewers of Rise and Shine.
00:32Thank you for joining us. Their opening performance was beautiful.
00:35Thank you very much.
00:36Later, there will be another performance.
00:38How did the group start, Sir Vincent?
00:40Our group started in 1957.
00:43Lahing Kayong Manggima ng Marikina has been known ever since Marikina.
00:47However, we used to be a school-based organization.
00:51When our founder, Simeona F. Chan Yungco, retired in 2011, we revived her.
00:58In 2013, we renamed the group under her.
01:02That's why it became Simeona F. Chan Yungco, Lahing Kayong Manggima, Nanayaw ng Marikina.
01:06Okay.
01:07What is the purpose of your group in every performance that you do?
01:12Actually, the purpose of the group is not just to entertain,
01:17more so is for the generation to appreciate the folk dance.
01:21And by appreciating them, we need to engage our community,
01:28most likely the community, so that they can participate.
01:32Aside from watching our shows, we give free workshops to them.
01:38We travel to our community to give workshops as well.
01:42Okay. So, they also learn the dances of their children and sisters that we raise.
01:48So, what was the first performance that they did?
01:51I remember it was in Ilobayo.
01:53Earlier, our dance was called Kumakaret from the province of Pangasinan.
01:57Wherein, if you notice, they're balancing in different parts of their body.
02:02That's the main point of the dance.
02:04It's to showcase the different ways of balancing the glass in the body.
02:10What do you call again the dance?
02:12Kumakaret.
02:13Kumakaret.
02:14Okay. What will they perform later?
02:17Earlier, it was a traditional folk dance.
02:20This is our next performance.
02:22We categorize this as a creative folk dance.
02:25Wherein, this is the research from our group.
02:29We call this a patero.
02:32This is a festival dance that we actually honor for our shoe industry workers in our barangay in San Roque.
02:40Oh, interesting. We're excited to watch that.
02:43So, thank you very much for sharing your talents here in Rise and Shine Philippines.
02:48And now, let's watch another performance from you, F. Chang Yunco.
