00:00Duel, as its title says, is basically the encounter or the fight, the dispute that
00:20there is between two great friends who, for being seriously injured by a betrayal or by
00:26a couple of betrayals that occur, end up deciding that they cannot live on the same planet.
00:34I love the satire and the plot and how this whole development of this broken friendship
00:42has been carried out to the point that they need to meet or that they basically need to
00:45make a duel in the middle of nowhere, a duel also very fifteenth century, that is, nothing
00:50modern, even the phrase of modern problems, historical constitutions, condenses a lot
01:00what is seen in the film.
01:03In short, two very betrayed friends, one for the other, who end up making the decision
01:10to make a duel to see who has to be or who has to end up alive after that great betrayal.
01:17I had a meeting with Luke and Justin, the directors, writers, producers, parents of this film,
01:25and they told me about the story, they sent me the script, and I saw them on Zoom, we were in 2020,
01:32we were starting, I think we were even starting the pandemic, like the first semester of the pandemic,
01:39and I saw them in an Indian house, as crazy people, telling me the story of the film,
01:45because this film is wonderful, and they sold it to me completely, and I said, I want to be part of you,
01:51of whatever you do, I don't know, at the end of the day, a film is always a bet to blind people,
01:57it doesn't matter if you make a film with Spielberg, it can be a flop, you don't know how the audience is going to receive it,
02:05much more an independent film made by novel directors that is made in the middle of a global crisis
02:13that has never been seen before. However, I let myself be guided a lot by intuition,
02:19also by how you feel about the other person, and when I met them on Zoom, I said,
02:25this, the worst thing that can happen is that it's just very interesting to do, and that's how I made the decision to be part of the project.
02:35The story of how Christian came in is much more fun.
02:38No, my story is particular, more than fun, because just as it happens that you can make a film,
02:45and maybe the film never comes out, because things in life can't be determined,
02:51you also end up in films where you didn't even know you were going to be, and that was my case.
02:57They later told me in a little more detail, and it's no secret, they had an actor who was going to be in the production,
03:03and honestly, at the last minute, he kind of abandoned them. He ended up choosing another project,
03:09which, because of things in life, that project didn't end up coming out, as life is.
03:13And my manager and my people call me, because we share, both the writers and the directors,
03:19like me and like Gaby, we share the same agency, they call me and say,
03:23look, an actor fell for me, and we represent a material of yours, already knowing that Gaby was involved,
03:30they saw your material, and they think you can basically give to make this character,
03:34but that was literally 36 hours before I stepped on the set, I hadn't read the script,
03:40I was working on another project from home, and I hadn't managed to read it,
03:45it was a project that didn't fit me as an actor, so I never went for it.
03:50So I ended up reading the script, literally traveling on the Indian plane,
03:56and we got to this house, this safe house, in the middle of COVID,
04:02and at 24 hours, we were looking for Patrick Warburton, this great actor,
04:09and I remember being like, what is this?
04:13I was literally, I don't know, 30 hours in Los Angeles, in the backyard of my house,
04:17and suddenly I'm going to film with Patrick, a movie with my wife,
04:22something that we hadn't done before, we had done television before,
04:25and it was like we met, but we had never had the opportunity to make movies,
04:28so yeah, let's say I ended up being the one who fell for that production,
04:35and I don't regret it, and I hope I don't either, because I had a great time,
04:40it was a very fun process, and I consider them almost like my friends,
04:45well, they are basically friends, part of the American family that we have here.
04:49It was a very particular dynamic, we were all living in the same house,
04:54in Indiana, because we were, again, in the middle of COVID,
04:58and we couldn't risk getting infected, so we created our own bubbles,
05:04and it was like a camp, we went to the set, we worked, we came back home,
05:10we cooked, we had dinner, I mean, we did everything together,
05:14and that meant that there was a bond between all of us,
05:17and that we all took the movie to the next level,
05:20even though it was Justin and Luke's movie, it was everyone's movie,
05:24because we were all risking a lot to be able to do this,
05:29and also making all these decisions that put the movie in the middle,
05:34I mean, I remember that we, I don't know, the week before,
05:37we were like, I want a Starbucks, I want coffee, I want a coffee shop,
05:41and none of us dared to take an Uber, to walk beyond the block of our house,
05:46because the movie, the movie was the priority.
