00:00I am Noelia Castro and today I am with the singer Alex Ponce. Welcome, dear Alex. Tell me, because you are promoting No Volveré and I need to ask you, how was the idea of this new single born and really, what inspired you to write this song?
00:24Well, first of all, thank you for having me, Noelia. It's incredible. You know that this song is relatively old, it's almost two years old. I wrote it with my producers and it was born from the idea that I have always been a big fan of Juanes, Maná, all these rock bands from 2000 that are still active to this day, but from that moment of their music.
00:51And we tried to do something inspired by that and No Volveré was born. From there, obviously, I had the opportunity to just send this song to Timo, to the Colombians from Bogotá, Timo, who are great friends. Thank God they loved the song, they joined and well, they made it even more beautiful than it already was.
01:10So, it was born from this idea, as I say, of our love for music and obviously Timo also grew up listening to Caifanes, Maná, Juanes, all these bands that I think were really relevant for our generation.
01:27Totally, and as you just mentioned Juanes, Caifanes, Maná. How did you manage to combine those influences in a contemporary sound without losing the essence of Latin rock?
01:44Let's see, I can tell you that I can really attribute a lot to why it was possible to do something that I feel really sounds authentic in those times. It is thanks to one of the producers who was there, who is really a crack and has worked with many of them.
02:03He worked with Chayanne, just like with Juanes, with all this contemporary world, so he was very clear when it came to how to build the song, where to change chords, where to put drums, so it was very nice to be able to do that.
02:21Obviously, my producers Adam, Iván and them always listen, they have had the reference of them all their lives and obviously I think that the most contemporary side is the fact of always trying, for example in my case, to respect how I write my melodies, but at the end of the day they are still inspired by those artists, so I think that's why it was the combination.
02:49And look, this song seems to be a tribute to emotional healing after a breakup. And I ask you, dear Alex, how did you manage to capture that feeling of personal rediscovery in the lyrics and the sound of this song?
03:09Oh, great question. What can I tell you? I don't know, I feel like it's a song that at the end of the day is very timeless. I think that's why, because I don't know, heartbreak is something that happens to all human beings.
03:26I've had to live it and I think that's why I was able to capture it, because I've had to live these experiences where at the end of the day you feel that they didn't value you enough and you know that you shouldn't go back, that you shouldn't be there.
03:41And as I say, we all live those emotions, it's something that people from 20 years ago would live, people in 20 years more, so I think it's something timeless and that's why I think the song also has this melancholic feeling of hymn, so to speak, for that same reason.
04:00Sure, and throughout your career, how have you, Alex Ponce, how has your approach to music evolved? What changes have you noticed in yourself as an artist by sharing your personal experiences through your songs? How has this change been?
04:19Hey, can I tell you that before my songs were very melancholic, that is, more, too much, it was very short-lived, rather today I think I can tell you that I have expanded my way of writing too, obviously I write, I love to write short-lived, but now I also like to write a lot more to more everyday themes, to happier themes, to friendships, to experiences from day to day.
04:48I feel that they also make you happy, that is, I want not only to bring this sad music, which at the end of the day is very cool, but I also like to be incursioning in more genres, to be learning from new experiences and not only to write about my own things, but also to learn to write about experiences of others, stories of other people, to also be able to write about many more things at the end of the day.
05:13I will not be able to live so many things as to continue writing, so I have to learn to write also from experiences of friends, sometimes even from followers, from listeners who tell me their stories and it is very nice to be able to tell their stories with my lyrics.
05:27How divine! And Alex, how are you? Well, to finish, tell us what projects you have in mind for the future, what is coming for Alex Ponce in this 2025, what surprises can you tell us?
05:40Sure, well, I can tell you that music will not be missing, music is what I do the most, I am very happy with the music that is coming, the truth is that I am very excited, just after here in a month or so, a song called Quito is going to come out, referring to the capital of my country and well, obviously it is a very cool word game.
06:03In our country, let me tell you, I am Ecuadorian, I am from Madera de Guerrero.
06:07Oh wow, how beautiful, how cool.
06:10Yes, yes.
06:11So from our country, referring to our capital, it is a song that I have a lot of faith in, I like it a lot, it is very fun, as I say, it is a word game with Quito and well, collaborations are coming from there, in Spain, I have many good trips, also shows in Spain, in Mexico and consequently in more places in Latin America.
06:32As I say, music, content, always be aware of that and nothing, I think that is the most important thing about it.
