00:00A brazen killing in the heart of enemy territory.
00:03The assassination of Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran has been met with condemnation from allies
00:08of the Palestinian cause.
00:10Qatar, where Haniyeh lived and worked in exile, calling it a heinous crime and a dangerous
00:15escalation that will lead to the region slipping into chaos.
00:19The Foreign Ministry of Turkey, where Haniyeh also spent some of his time denouncing what
00:24it calls a shameful assassination.
00:27Once again, the Netanyahu government has shown that it has no intention of achieving peace.
00:32If the international community does not take measures to stop Israel, our region will face
00:36an even greater conflict.
00:39That threat of escalation is clearly on the mind of Israel's chief ally, the United States,
00:44which has already warned the Hebrew state that Washington has no interest in getting
00:48dragged into a war with Iran.
00:50I don't think war is inevitable.
00:52We're going to do everything we can to make sure that we keep things from turning into
00:57a broader conflict throughout the region.
01:00The West's rivals weighing in as well, as Russia's foreign ministry condemned what it
01:04calls a completely unacceptable political assassination.
01:07China, meanwhile, taking a similar line, as it called for a comprehensive and permanent
01:12ceasefire in Gaza.
01:15We firmly oppose and condemn the act of assassination.
01:19We are deeply concerned that this incident may lead to escalation and turbulence in the
01:23region.
01:26From the occupied Palestinian territories themselves, President Mahmoud Abbas, whose
01:31Palestinian Authority is itself a rival of Hamas, called Haniyeh's killing a cowardly
01:36act that reinforces the necessity of unifying Palestinian forces and factions.
