Coco Gauff was reduced to tears after arguing with the chair umpire during her straight-sets defeat to Donna Vekic at Roland-Garros, saying “it always happens here” after a disputed line call.

Chair umpire Jaume Campistol overruled decision from a line judge and awarded Vekic a point, believing her return of serve was in, which handed the Croatian a break and a 4-2 lead in the second set.

Gauff said: “It always happens here at the French Open to me. Every time. This is like the fourth, five time it’s happened this year.”

00:00The blockbuster day of Olympic tennis has already thrown up some controversy as team

00:12to Croatia's Donna Vekic.
00:14Vekic, most recently a semi-finalist at Wimbledon, came back from 5-2 and a set point down to
00:19steal the first on a tie break, 9 points to 7.
00:22The second set also went her way, 6 games to 2, but it was during that where Koko complained
00:27about a line call while break point down.
00:30Well Vekic's shot was originally called out before the umpire said it landed in, because
00:36Goff had hit her shot in the net, she ended up losing the point and the game before saying
00:40this to the umpire, this isn't fair, you called it out before I hit the ball, you have to
00:45be 100% sure, it always happens to me on this court, I always have to advocate for myself,
00:51this is the fourth, fifth time this year, this isn't fair, I feel like I'm getting cheated
00:56on constantly in this game, I constantly feel like that and I have to argue and then
01:01you guys apologise afterwards saying I'm sorry, but what does that do for me in the match,
01:05ok it's not intentional but it happens to me, it happened to Serena Williams, you guys
01:10are not fair to me and I hope one day the game becomes fair, but it's not.
