00:00More than six hundred million dollars or more than 36 billion pesos of military assistance and investment will be given by America to the Philippines for the modernization of our military.
00:12That was the announcement of U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken at a meeting held in Manila yesterday.
00:18May 1 news, Joseph Morong.
00:20In their meeting with President Bongbong Marcos, U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin exchanged greetings to the people of Habagat and Baguio, Carina.
00:34I've said a number of times that we're more than allies, we're family. And it always feels that way when I'm working with our colleagues.
00:44And I'm always very happy that these communication lines are very open so that all the things that we are doing together in terms of our alliance, in terms of the specific context of our situation here in the West Philippine Sea and in the Indo-Pacific are continuously examined and re-examined.
01:11So we are agile in terms of our responses.
01:14The two U.S. secretaries are in the country for the 2-plus-2 ministerial meeting of foreign affairs in the Defense Department of the Philippines and America.
01:22This is the first time that the 2-plus-2 meeting was held here in the Philippines, according to U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, in the light of the high level and continued cooperation of the U.S. in the Philippines.
01:35Under the leadership of Defense Secretary Gilberto Doro and Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo, Blinken announced that he will provide U.S. $500 million in military assistance and U.S. $128 million in investments in EDCA sites that will be used for the modernization of our military.
01:52And the assistance of the U.S. in the Philippines is to maintain my status in the region, particularly in Taiwan, because whatever happens there, the neighboring countries will be affected.
02:03I think there's a recognition around the world that were there to be some kind of crisis on Taiwan, it would affect everyone. It would have global impact.
02:11In Pulong, the Philippines and China have been talking for almost four hours about the rotation of the Reprovisioning Aurora Mission to the Philippine troops in Ayungin Shoal.
02:22The Americans are pleased that there was no harassment in the resupply mission on July 27. According to Secretary Manalo, the most recent resupply mission was peaceful because of what he called an exchange of information.
02:35And China must not do anything. When we say, okay, we're going to Ayungin, no one will do anything to China, sir.
02:42What do you mean? Yeah, that's part of it. Nothing. Because we've exchanged information.
02:48And they're not empowered or they have no place to say no?
02:52Well, I'll be blunt. If they said no, then that's not part of the understanding.
02:59The strategy in WPS and SES never changes. To have as much to protect our rights, that is the strategy. It doesn't change.
03:12In accordance with the rule of law and the rules-based order handling.
03:17Meanwhile, some groups protested against the visit of Blinken and Austin.
03:22According to the group, the President of the country is putting them in danger through EDCA sites.
03:28This is the first news, Joseph Morong for GMA Integrated News.
03:46.
