00:00Danny, whatever you're thinking about doing, please don't do it."
00:16Welcome to Ms. Mojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the bad-choice cinematic
00:21entertainment for that first date.
00:23We're focusing more on movies that you might actually see on a date, not necessarily movies
00:28with the most gruesome or unromantic content.
00:31Number 10.
00:33The Notebook.
00:34What's that?
00:35Why wouldn't you want to see a movie as sweeping and romantic as The Notebook on a first date?
00:39Because who wants to try to live up to what Ali and Noah had going on?
00:53The romance here is just off the charts, storybook perfect.
00:57At the same time, we also get to see their entire relationship from its sweet beginnings
01:02to its complicated middle, and ultimately to its bittersweet end.
01:05It's a lot.
01:07A first date is when you're still feeling each other out.
01:20Seeing The Notebook would be the cinematic equivalent of talking about moving in or having
01:24kids together.
01:31Number 9.
01:32Funny Games.
01:33What do you want to do now?
01:34Would you be so kind as to go make us something to eat?
01:39A horror movie can be a great choice for a first date.
01:42When you get scared, you can just cling to the other person and get cozy.
01:46But Funny Games is not the one.
01:48Before you know it, you're watching a nice family being tormented by a pair of sadistic
01:52criminals who enjoy testing their devotion to each other.
02:05Instead of grabbing for each other, two people on a first date might find themselves inching
02:09further and further away from each other.
02:11It's enough to put you off marriage, family, and home ownership for years.
02:21Number 8.
02:22American Psycho.
02:23Patrick Bateman is an anti-hero to the nth degree.
02:33The Wall Street sociopath with yuppie aspirations doesn't really do much to make you want
02:38to root for him.
02:39He hates his fiancée and is generally soulless, and that's before he starts offing people.
02:45American Psycho takes you on a journey through Bateman's savage and relentless psyche.
03:02He goes on a lot of dates himself, but his way of ending the evening with the women he
03:06takes home is pretty unconventional, graphic, brooding, and completely disorienting.
03:11The movie makes you wonder what the virtual stranger sitting next to you might be hiding.
03:23Number 7.
03:24Oldboy.
03:36This stylish adaptation of a Japanese manga at first might appear to be a straightforward
03:40action film, but things get very, very weird very, very quickly.
03:45A man is kidnapped and imprisoned for several years, and then upon escaping from this group
03:50of mysterious captors, swears revenge on them.
03:53And things get even weirder and more shocking still after he meets a younger woman he begins
03:57to fall in love with.
03:59By the end, things have gotten so out of hand in ways that need to be seen to be believed,
04:03but we can guarantee it's gonna zap the romance right out of any date.
04:15Number 6.
04:16Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
04:25Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet star in this non-linear and cryptic drama about two exes who participate
04:30in a program to have their memories of each other systematically erased.
04:33Eternal Sunshine is heartbreaking and mournful.
04:36It poetically communicates the beauty, sadness, confusion, and mixed emotions of the end of
04:42a relationship.
04:45That's exactly what makes it a cursed first date movie.
04:58It's not exactly the kind of thing you want to be thinking about at the start of something
05:02new.
05:03This is a perfect post-breakup movie, and maybe even a perfect date movie for further
05:07on down the road in a relationship.
05:15Number 5.
05:16Midsommar.
05:17Traveling to rural Sweden for a Midsommar festival, partners Christian and Dani are
05:35not exactly in a great place when they arrive.
05:38She's traumatized by her family's deaths, and he's decidedly unable or unwilling to
05:43help her cope.
05:44It's a doomed relationship, even under the best of circumstances.
05:48The strange and increasingly violent customs of the festival only drive them further apart.
05:53Ultimately, Midsommar's divisive conclusion draws a line in the sand for viewers.
06:03If you and a first date come away on opposite sides of that line, the relationship might
06:08just be a no-go.
06:18Number 4.
06:19Gone Girl.
06:20You don't know if she has friends, you don't know what she does all day, and you don't
06:23know your wife's blood type.
06:24Sure y'all are married.
06:25Some people will do anything to put the spark back in a relationship.
06:29The sociopathic protagonist of 2014's Gone Girl decides getting revenge on her husband
06:34and showing him just how good she was to him is worth staging her own murder in framing
06:38him.
06:52If that doesn't spell romance, then what does?
06:55This movie is a searing and twisted look at a marriage turned poisonous.
06:59And while that absolutely may be some couple's vibes, it's not everyone's.
07:03If it's enough to make you look at the person next to you and wonder if they're
07:06capable of this, it can put a real damper on the attraction.
07:15Number 3.
07:16Fatal Attraction.
07:17You never really know a partner until you date them for a while.
07:32What can draw you to someone can just as easily turn ugly if the conditions are right.
07:37Intense passion might look attractive on screen, but as fatal attraction shows us, there can
07:41be another side to that.
07:43In the film, Glenn Close's character can't accept not having Michael Douglas to herself,
07:47despite the fact that he is married to someone else.
07:50So when he ends their brief extramarital fling, she believes it gives her full license to
07:55destroy his life.
08:02Far-fetched as it may seem, it just might color how you think about someone new in your
08:06life.
08:11Number 2.
08:12Blue Valentine.
08:21Sitting through this movie with a first date is sure to keep expectations low, which might
08:25be a good thing, depending on how warped your perspective is.
08:28Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams star as a married couple whose relationship has rotted
08:32away.
08:39Jumping back and forth in time to the beginning and end of their relationship, we get to watch
08:43as all they loved about each other gets whittled away by life.
08:47All that's left is resentments and bitter reminders of how in love they used to be.
08:51The last thing you need on a first date is a reminder that all the things you like about
08:55each other right now can turn toxic in just a few short years.

09:24Number 1.
09:25Antichrist.
09:26This polarizing horror film is a surreal and emotional rollercoaster of violence, grief
09:36and trauma.
09:37While this may make it a one-of-a-kind cinematic experience, it doesn't get a relationship
09:41off on the right foot.
09:43Marriage never looked uglier and less appealing than in Antichrist.
09:47It blurs all the lines between reality and fantasy and straddles the fence between art
09:51and exploitation.
09:58It would take a certain kind of couple with a pair of strong stomachs to walk away from
10:01this one wanting a second date.
10:03For the rest of us, it's probably best to avoid this one until a relationship is on
10:08more stable ground.
