00:00The 2024 Summer Olympic Games are here, and that means the world's celebrities are flocking
00:05to Paris.
00:06But while the city itself might be a hotbed for jaw-dropping fashion statements, the same
00:10can't be said for all those stars.
00:13The Olympics is far more than just sweat and scores.
00:16There are also a number of pre-parties and after-parties, victory celebrations, and nights
00:20out to be had during the Games.
00:22With the glamorous city of Paris serving as the backdrop to this year's event, the stars
00:26have emerged, bringing their fashion sense with them, for better or worse.
00:31Case in point, Elizabeth Banks, who attended the prelude to the Olympics party in Paris
00:35on July 26th.
00:37Her black cocktail dress was chic and sophisticated, until it wasn't, thanks to a swath of blue
00:41satin that appeared to have been slapped on before she walked out the door.
00:45Sophia Bush of One Tree Hill and Chicago PD fame turned up to the prelude to the Olympics
00:51party at Paris' Louis Vuitton Foundation, wearing a dress that very much looked like
00:56the beginnings of a jack-o'-lantern.
00:57A structured corset top gave way to a puff ball of a skirt that surrounded the actor
01:02in a mass of fabric.
01:04Designed as a short dress, the material had nowhere to go, so it just ballooned up around
01:08Bush's waist in a pumpkin-shaped silhouette.
01:11And just in case the resemblance wasn't uncanny enough, the whole frock was rendered
01:14in orange fabric that had a holographic effect, resulting in flashes of yellow, just like
01:19a flame inside a carved pumpkin.
01:22Fashion designer Mira Mikati is known for creating clothes in bright, fun colors, but
01:28the outfit she wore to the prelude to the Olympics event may have gone a little overboard.
01:32Wearing a tailored two-piece suit, the pants and jacket were illustrated with multicolored
01:36tennis rackets.
01:37The artwork was hand-drawn, and although artistic, the finished effect was that of someone having
01:42scribbled on Mikati's pristine suit with a set of Crayola markers.
01:46Had she worn either the jacket or the pants, this might have been a cute little homage
01:50to the tennis stars of the Olympic Games.
01:53Worn together, however, the look was overwhelming at best, and a distracting eyesore at worst.
01:59Once the longtime creative director for Moschino, Jeremy Scott's wardrobe at the prelude to
02:03the Olympics party in Paris sadly proved that he's much better at dressing other people
02:08than he is at dressing himself.
02:10After retiring from Moschino in March 2023, the designer seems to have lost his fashion
02:15touch, opting for a pleather or leather ensemble that looks like a lost member of Mad Max's
02:20road crew stepped on a glitter bomb.
02:22Oh, what a day!
02:24What a lovely day!
02:26It's all tough guy vibes with the leather pants, thick motorcycle boots, gray t-shirt
02:30and shades.
02:31Oh, and zippers.
02:33So many zippers.
02:34For a man who was once branded the people's designer, this fashion choice has us wondering
02:38which people he's designing for, and how we can avoid becoming one of them.
02:43Nina Dobrev's relationship with Sean White has at least one awesome perk.
02:47She gets invited to all the cool Olympic parties.
02:50The Vampire Diaries actor and the snowboarding gold medalist attended the prelude to the
02:54Olympics shindig together, with Dobrev apparently auditioning for a spot on USA's swimming
02:59team.
03:00The star's gold top was paired with a black satin skirt that made a valiant attempt to
03:03drown Dobrev with its yards of fabric.
03:06Extending several inches beyond floor length, the skirt also grew in volume around the sides
03:10as it swam downward from her waist.
03:12Topping it all off was a matching jacket detailed with a nautical theme.
03:16Ironic, given that it too made her look like she was being swallowed by oceans of black
03:21satin.
03:22Yes, you can be supportive of your Olympics team, but a cocktail party sponsored by big
03:28wigs in the fashion industry is not the time.
03:31David Lauren and Lauren Bush Lauren didn't look like they were attending the prelude
03:34to the Olympics soiree so much as they looked like tourists who had stumbled onto the red
03:38carpet by mistake.
03:44Dressed in casual clothing, David opted for white denim jeans, a popped collar polo shirt,
03:49and athletic shoes, while Lauren stuck with black pants and a matching top.
03:53They completed their looks with identical Team USA jackets adorned with Olympic patches.
03:58The man who brought you Moulin Rouge, The Great Gatsby, and Elvis also brought you this
04:02spectacular fail from the red carpet of the prelude to the Olympics party.
04:06Baz Luhrmann posed with Anna Wintour, the editor of Vogue and one of the hosts of the
04:11event.
04:12It's just a shame she didn't offer him any fashion advice before turning up.
04:15Luhrmann went for a monochromatic look, dressing in light-washed jeans and a matching chambray
04:21shirt and tie.
04:22Questionable at best, the look was made even worse by the fit of the clothes.
04:26The shirt appears to be one size too small, puckering at the chest and waist, but at the
04:30same time, one size too large given that the sleeves swallow his wrists and hands.
04:36And while his shoes were nice enough, Luhrmann could have easily chosen a pair of jeans two
04:40inches longer and still shown them off.
04:43Last we checked, Paris was in no danger of flooding.
04:46Chrissy Teigen and John Legend might be an attractive couple in general, but the model's
04:51hubby seriously upstaged her while attending the opening ceremony.
04:54Legend paired his sleek black suit with a crisp white button-down and equally fresh
04:59kicks.
05:00Teigen, on the other hand, seemed to have left her pants at home.
05:03While the ensemble technically matched in that everything was made of the same olive
05:07green, cable-knit sweater material, her cardigans screamed chilly autumn afternoon.
05:12And her bottom half wasn't much better.
05:14We know micro-shorts and the no-pants trend have been taking Hollywood by storm, but Teigen's
05:19briefs were definitely a miss.
05:20Ahead of the Games, she told People magazine,
05:28Well, Teigen's footwear just happened to be next level too, in that her strappy heels
05:33were much too tall for the laid-back fit and clashed with her overall vibe.
05:37But hey, the gold buttons on her sweater match the buttons on Legend's jacket.
05:41So C-plus for effort.
