00:00A quick break, and then Obama reportedly pulling all the strings from four years of the Biden-Harris
00:05administration to the meteoric rise of Kamala.
00:08Peter Schweitzer is the president of the Government Accountability Institute with a deep dive
00:11into who is running the show and Harris' career in politics from the San Francisco Bay Area
00:17to Washington, D.C.
00:18He's next.
00:19Stay with us.
00:20Welcome back.
00:21The political rise of Kamala Harris within the Democrat Party will be on full display
00:24at next month's DNC convention in Chicago, when she is expected to receive the official
00:29nomination.
00:30Just 20 years ago, Kamala became district attorney in San Francisco after defeating
00:34her former boss, Terrence Hallinan, in a runoff with the backing of former San Francisco mayor
00:40and assembly speaker Willie Brown.
00:43From there, she became California attorney general, U.S. senator, and finally vice president
00:47of the United States.
00:48Join me now with more on the political rise of Harris as the president of the Government
00:51Accountability Institute, Peter Schweitzer.
00:53Peter, good to see you.
00:55Thanks so much for being here.
00:56What's your take on Kamala's rise throughout the party?
01:00And what can you tell us about Obama and his influence here?
01:04Yeah, great question, Maria.
01:07Look, Barack Obama and Kamala Harris have known each other before he was a U.S. senator
01:12and before she was actually the district attorney in San Francisco.
01:16So there's a long history there.
01:18And if you look at Kamala Harris's rise in politics, there are a couple of things that
01:21stick out.
01:22One is the fact that she is loyal to those who put her there.
01:26And number two, she's prepared to do the bidding of the money people that put her there.
01:31When she was San Francisco district attorney in 2003, she ran against Terrence Hallinan.
01:37Terrence Hallinan was a progressive.
01:39The problem for Willie Brown is he was investigating Willie Brown's friends on fraud and a series
01:45of other charges.
01:46Willie Brown didn't like that, so he put his political machine and his money behind Kamala
01:52Harris.
01:53Kamala Harris won that race because of Willie Brown's help.
01:56And what did Kamala Harris do when she became district attorney?
01:59She dropped all those cases, those criminal cases, against Willie Brown's political allies.
02:05So this is a lesson that she knows how to wield power.
02:10And by the way, she was campaigning for Barack Obama in 2003 before he was in the U.S. Senate
02:16And after he won that Senate seat from Illinois, he actually went out to San Francisco and
02:21raised money for Kamala Harris.
02:23So there is a tight bond there.
02:25And that's why I think there is considerable evidence that Barack Obama is the one that
02:29essentially instituted this coup and saw to it that Joe Biden was kicked to the side and
02:35Kamala Harris would be the nominee.
02:37What about this Seymour Hersh, the investigative journalist, reporting that's suggesting that
02:43Obama threatened Joe Biden with the 25th Amendment if he didn't step down.
02:48Tell us about that.
02:49Yeah, so I think you have to understand about Barack Obama.
02:53This is the way that he operates.
02:54You know, he's a very smooth politician.
02:57But go back and look at state Senator Alice Palmer.
03:00She was the one in Chicago that was Barack Obama's mentor.
03:04She's the one that introduced him to Bill Ayers, to all the big money people in Chicago.
03:08What did Barack Obama do?
03:10In 1996, he got her kicked off the ballot because he wanted her Senate seat.
03:16And he took her Senate seat.
03:18So when you look at the current context today, what you see is a couple of things.
03:23The money, the big money in the Democratic Party.
03:25Who is the chairman of Joe Biden's finance committee for his campaign?
03:30It was Jeffrey Katzenberg, who was what?
03:33The chairman of Barack Obama's finance campaign.
03:36So the big money people in Democratic Party are Obama people first instead of Biden people.
03:41The second thing to understand is look at the center of gravity in the White House itself.
03:45Yes, you've got Steve Ruscetti and a couple of close aides around Joe Biden.
03:50But this is essentially Barack Obama's White House.
03:53So remember that picture from just a couple of years ago when Barack Obama visited the
03:57White House.
03:58Everybody's crowding around Barack Obama.
04:01And there is the actual current sitting president, Joe Biden, off by himself.
04:05So the center of gravity was there.
04:08And when Barack Obama started, the first one, really, who started questioning whether Joe
04:12Biden could win, immediately, like a light switch went off, you saw all the whispers
04:18coming from White House staff reporting these stories about how Joe Biden was not always
04:23there and should be replaced.
04:26So in my mind, there's lots of evidence and his fingerprints are all over this.
04:29OK.
04:30Specifically, did Obama threaten Biden with the 25th Amendment that they have gotten the
04:37OK from the cabinet that they will push it forward if he doesn't step down?
04:41Did they threaten Biden to say, you better get out?
04:43Otherwise, we're doing it this way.
04:45Yeah, that's what Schumer Hearst is certainly reporting.
04:48I don't have that same evidence, but it would certainly fit the pattern for Barack Obama.
