‘It must end’- Australia joins Canada and New Zealand in Israel-Gaza ceasefire calls

00:06in calling for a ceasefire in the Middle East conflict.
00:09It is the first time we've heard the Prime Minister use such strong language since the
00:13October 7 attack.
00:15Three leaders united in one message.
00:19Anthony Albanese, Christopher Luxon and Justin Trudeau calling for an end to the war in Gaza
00:24as international frustration grows with Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
00:29The three leaders released a joint statement saying the situation in Gaza is catastrophic
00:35adding that the human suffering is unacceptable.
00:38They say civilians must be protected and a sustained increase in the flow of assistance
00:43throughout Gaza is needed to address the humanitarian situation.
00:47They have also expressed concern over the growing escalation between Israel and Lebanon.
00:52The three leaders remain firm on their support of the US ceasefire deal which has been endorsed
00:58by the United Nations.
01:00Some Jewish groups have condemned the statement believing our government is only encouraging
01:04Hamas.
01:05The coalition has accused Labor of using the statement opportunity to put to bed internal
01:10pressure from those within the party for more action in Gaza.
01:14Shadow Home Affairs Minister James Patterson says the government should also explain how
01:18they think Hamas' rule in Gaza will be ended if their advice for an immediate ceasefire
01:24is followed.
01:25The Prime Minister's statement follows Australia's decision to impose historic sanctions on Israeli
01:30settlers in the West Bank this week.
01:32Labor says a two-state solution is the only realistic opportunity to achieve peace in
01:37the region.
