Nestled in the quiet town of Wheaton, this small motel offers basic accommodations for reasonable rates. Each room has basic amenities like satellite tv, microwave and mini fridge. The hotel is nothing special but is a clean, well maintained place to get some rest.

I'd rate this hotel at a 5 out of 10 (with 10 being the best). It's average.

00:00For this video I'm going to be taking you on a hotel tour of the Wheaton Inn located
00:05in Wheaton, Minnesota.
00:35Let's go!
01:04There are so many hotels and motels and resorts out there that it can be hard to keep track
01:08of all the different types and styles of them.
01:12Luckily for me, the hospitality industry has kind of come up with the star rating system,
01:17you know, basically using like one to five stars to rate the amenities at each hotel
01:23and what's available.
01:24For example, an all-inclusive resort that has multiple restaurants and spas and pretty
01:30much every amenity that you can imagine would be a five-star resort versus just a basic
01:35motel with no restaurants or swimming pools, anything like that, just a basic room.
01:43That would be kind of a one-star hotel.
01:46As a general rule of thumb, the higher the star rating, the more expensive the room rate
01:51is, and that's pretty typical.
01:53For example, today I'm staying at the Wheaton Inn.
01:55This would be considered just a one-star hotel based on the fact that it really doesn't have
02:00any amenities, it's just the room itself.
02:02It's a lot less expensive than staying at like a five-star resort like the Ritz-Carlton
02:06in New York City, which typically is going to be $700, $800, even $1,000 a night depending
02:13on what suite you're staying in.
02:15Now the Wheaton Inn is just basic accommodations.
02:19It's obviously nothing to call home about, but the beds were clean and it was fairly
02:24comfortable.
02:25I mean, definitely not the most comfortable mattress around, but you know, you're in a
02:29very small town in Minnesota, so it was very quiet, it was easy to fall asleep, I had no
02:34complaints.
02:35I mean, it was a pretty pleasant stay, I can't really argue, and the room rate was $50 a
02:41night, which is very, very reasonable for a hotel room, especially when it's this clean
02:46and well-maintained.
02:47I mean, the buildings are older, but they didn't really show a lot of wear and tear,
02:52so the maintenance has been pretty good.
02:55My only major pet peeve here was in the bathrooms themselves.
03:02Inside the shower stall, it's really dark, you know, they could really benefit from just
03:06using a clear shower curtain because the light source is coming from over the sink.
03:12When you pull back that shower curtain, it's just this solid and there's no light that
03:17transmits through it, so it's pretty dark and hard to see in there.
03:23Some people will definitely have a problem.
03:25The other issue is, these are the types of shower stalls used in campgrounds, and I'm
03:31used to them, so it doesn't bother me, but some people might be upset with the, I guess,
03:36crude or rudimentary function of the particular shower stall.
03:41It is very basic.
03:42I'm used to camping outside, so it's fine for me, but some people who are used to going
03:47to the Hilton might have issues with it.
03:50I mean, when it comes to the hotel itself, obviously, it looks like a motel and not like
03:55a hotel.
03:57The interior decor of this place reminded me of the late 1970s, early 1980s.
04:02That's probably when this hotel was built, so that is consistent, however, I do know
04:06some people probably won't be happy with it.
04:10I kind of like the retro vibe, personally.
04:13Compared to the other hotels that I've reviewed in the past, this property is most similar
04:17to the Executive Economy Lodge that I stayed in in Pompano Beach, Florida.
04:22By comparison, the room rate over at the Executive Economy Lodge was three times as much.
04:27I paid about $150 a night, and the rooms were actually in much worse shape than what I experienced
04:35for $50 a night at the Wheaton Inn, so I'll definitely give the Wheaton Inn a lot of credit.
04:41Even though this is a budget motel, the level of maintenance, the beds, the linens, the
04:46towels, everything was nice and clean.
04:48Never saw any bugs the whole time I was there, no cockroaches, anything like that, so they
04:54are keeping the place up pretty well.
04:57It was a very pleasant stay, honestly, and Wheaton is not exactly a bustling tourist
05:04destination, so this motel ended up being a lot nicer than I anticipated.
05:09And the rooms have pretty much every amenity you would expect.
05:11They had a mini-fridge, microwave oven, satellite TV.
05:15Overall, it was a very pleasant place to stay, and the accommodations were exactly what I
05:20expected from a basic motel.
05:22Well that pretty much wraps up my hotel tour of the Wheaton Inn.
