00:00For this video, I'm going to be taking you for a hotel tour of the Coastal Inn located
00:05in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
01:00Well, what can I say?
01:06I had such a great time on my last vacation to Nova Scotia, I decided to come back for
01:11another one.
01:12Today, I checked into the Coastal Inn, which is located in Halifax.
01:16This particular hotel has a great location.
01:18It's right down the street from the Steel Wheels Car Museum, as well as the Power Center
01:25Outdoor Shopping Mall.
01:26So there's a lot of great attractions that are nearby.
01:29And because it's a real popular section of Halifax with the Power Center, there's every
01:34possible restaurant you could imagine, you know, almost within walking distance.
01:38I mean, there's so many places right around here.
01:41Now let's face it, this particular hotel is definitely in the budget tier.
01:46The rooms are pretty much what you would expect at this price point.
01:50The beds were really comfortable and everything was really clean.
01:54The rooms had pretty much every amenity that you would expect.
01:57They had a mini fridge, microwave oven, they even had a coffee machine, which is pretty
02:01rare in hotels.
02:03I guess people really like their hot beverages up here in Canada.
02:06Now a hotel like this, I would normally rate about a 7 out of 10.
02:11But I am going to give this hotel one extra point for the indoor pool.
02:17And those are pretty rare.
02:18I mean, I, you know, I did this whole vacation through Canada and stayed at three different
02:23hotels during my road trip.
02:26And this was the only one with an actual indoor pool.
02:28Now the pool itself is pretty small.
02:31It's one of the smaller pools that I've seen in quite a while.
02:33But let's face it, in a climate up here where you're dealing with, you know, negative 20
02:39Fahrenheit routinely in the wintertime, it costs a lot to heat a pool.
02:43So I can totally understand why they would make the pools somewhat smaller than what
02:48I'm used to in Florida.
02:50So is this overall score 8 gonna stand?
02:53No, not really.
02:54One of the other things that, you know, they have here is a complimentary continental breakfast.
03:00But it's literally the worst one I've ever had in my entire life.
03:02It's the food is so bad here that I'm actually, I'm now deducting a point because the breakfast
03:08is so horrible.
03:09I tried eating a bagel and it was it was like chewing a rubber band and, you know, the other
03:15options they had, you know, I guess if you get like the fresh waffle maker, you get something
03:22that's at least edible.
03:23But most of the the danishes and bagels and everything, they were so chewy that it's literally
03:29the worst.
03:30In these situations where the hotel has a breakfast that's this bad, I kind of wish
03:34they didn't bother with the breakfast and they just gave us a couple extra bucks off
03:38the hotel room instead.
03:40Because you know, you're paying for the breakfast and just just skip the breakfast and, you
03:45know, shave a couple bucks off the room.
03:47So we're back down to a 7 out of 10 with 10 being the best and I think that's a fair rating
03:53for this particular hotel.
03:55The the pool is nice, but that's pretty much the only amenity.
03:58I mean, they do have like cable TV, but you know, just about every other hotel has that
04:03too.
04:04The customer service and the hotel staff themselves were really, really pleasant.
04:08So I definitely was impressed by the courtesy and just just excellent customer service.
04:15So no complaints there.
04:17One of the interesting aspects of this particular hotel that I noticed that I've never really
04:20seen at the other hotels is in the lobby they have a bunch of board games set up.
04:25So I guess if you ever get snowed in in Nova Scotia and you can't travel out of the airport,
04:32they have a bunch of board games to spend time in the lobby while you're waiting for
04:35them I guess to clear the roads, plow the streets.
04:39On the ground floor, basically right across from the swimming pool is a well stocked soda
04:43machine.
04:44They also have a snack machine there that's loaded with lots of great candy bars and stuff.
04:48So if you have a late night munchie attack, there are definitely plenty of options down
04:53here to resolve it.
04:55There's also a laundry facility on the second floor.
04:59So this is a pretty solid hotel.
05:01Like I said, for a budget option, it's pretty good.
05:04My overall score is seven out of 10.
05:06Would I actually put this on my recommended list?
05:09Maybe conditional recommendation.
05:11The hotel itself is very average.
05:13I don't really think there's really anything that's makes this place stand out besides
05:17the indoor pool.
05:19If you really want a hotel with an indoor pool, then I guess I'd recommend this particular
05:24hotel.
05:25Otherwise, if the pool isn't important to you, there are definitely nicer hotels in
05:29Halifax for around the same amount of money.
05:32Well, that pretty much wraps up all my thoughts on the Coastal Inn.
