00:00The Education Ministry should not restrict fundraising activities by certain companies
00:07in schools if the government does not allocate sufficient funds to all streams of schools,
00:12Ge Ratkan said.
00:14Party President Dominic Lau said the government should understand and not hinder the longstanding
00:18tradition of fundraising activities at Chinese schools.
00:22With limited government assistance, Lau said these schools can only rely on fundraising
00:27such as charity sales, charity dinners, concerts and performances to secure funding.
00:34If fundraising is not allowed, he said the government should fully allocate the necessary
00:38funds to Chinese schools.
00:40Lau also said Tiger Beer only sponsors performances, does not sell beer at the event, and does
00:46not directly provide funds to the school, as all the money received comes from philanthropists
00:51and the school's alumni.
00:53Lau said the Tiger Beer logo on the mock cheque would not have a negative influence
00:57on the students, nor would it make them heavy drinkers.
01:01On Monday, the Education Ministry said it was investigating the incident and reminded
01:05schools to adhere to the guidelines issued in 2018, which prohibit accepting donations
01:09generated from activities such as gambling as well as the sale of tobacco, drugs and
01:14alcohol.
