00:00A big fish in the US war on drugs. Kingpin Ismael Zambada, nicknamed El Mayo, didn't
00:06know the plane he was boarding in Mexico would deliver him at long last to US authorities
00:11in El Paso, Texas. An elaborate ruse that saw him arrested alongside Joaquin Guzman
00:17Lopez, son of the infamous El Chapo. The Justice Department hailed the arrests as a triumph.
00:23On Thursday, the Justice Department took into custody in El Paso two more alleged leaders
00:29of the Sinaloa cartel, one of the most violent and powerful drug trafficking organizations
00:35in the world. Both men are facing multiple charges in the United States. Thought to be
00:41the Sinaloa cartel's strategist, El Mayo's charges include fentanyl trafficking, money
00:46laundering, firearms offences, kidnapping and conspiracy to commit murder. He waived
00:52his right to attend his first court hearing on Friday and had a plea of not guilty submitted
00:57on his behalf. The Mexican president said his administration was not involved in the
01:01capture and while hailing the arrests appeared reproachful towards US authorities.
01:11The US government has to give a full report, not just general statements. There has to
01:19be information. There has to be transparency.
01:29Adding that there was a risk others would fill the vacuum left by the two cartel leaders
01:34and that this was why the Mexican strategy preferred to focus on the root causes of drug
01:39use and violence.
