00:00This rally here in Byron Bay is one of 27 being held across the nation over the course
00:07of the weekend. Around about 200 people have gathered here in Railway Park in the centre
00:12of town. Byron Bay on a Friday night. It's a very busy, popular tourist town. Lots of
00:20people out having dinner. Lots of people at the pub. As people marched up the street this
00:26evening they were cheered on by others in the street who were out having a good time.
00:31Instead, these people have chosen to gather here and make their feelings known about the
00:36scourge of domestic violence. Although the vibes festive here, the message couldn't be
00:41any clearer. One thing being a man is I don't agree with violence against women at all and
00:48I want my kids to also be on board with that and also their mates. So we thought we'd come
00:54along and support the wife and show what our family's made for. We're just sick of it and
01:00it feels like a way to do something. I don't know that it will make any difference but you can't
01:06just stay at home and do nothing. It feels like it's getting worse. I don't know whether it's
01:11because there's more attention on it but if there is more attention on it surely it would be getting
01:16less of a problem than more of a problem. It's not a bad crowd but I would have liked to have seen
01:22more young women or all sorts of women come and support because I think that's where we're going
01:27to see some change and men too. I want to hear about some solutions. It's got to happen quickly
01:33because it can't go on. These rallies are being organised by a group called What Were You Wearing?
01:39They have a list of demands for governments that they want to see addressed and these include
01:45trauma-informed training for first responders and more funding for grassroots organisations
01:52including for women's refuges and programs that address men's behavioural change.
01:59They say time's up for domestic violence.
