00:00But only with the Mamba, and this has been true in Africa since the dawn of time, is death sure.
00:06Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we'll be counting down our picks for the top 10 most aggressive animals in the world.
00:17Good lord, the power of the animal is phenomenal!
00:21We've seen two males going head-to-head like this,
00:24tearing chunks out of each other.
00:26For this list, we'll be looking at animals that are known to be the most hostile on Earth, besides humans that is.
00:32If there's an intimidating creature we forgot, no need to get aggressive, just let us know about it in the comments.
00:42When an animal inspires a famous cartoon character best described as a slobbering tornado of chaos,
00:49Get it open!
00:54chances are that said creature is intimidating in real life too.
01:02Tasmanian devils are carnivorous marsupials, native primarily to the island of Tasmania off the coast of Australia.
01:08While they aren't particularly aggressive toward humans, amongst themselves and other animals,
01:13they can be incredibly fierce, especially when competing for mates and food.
01:18Look at that power! Total Tasmanian devil feeding frenzy!
01:22Their powerful smell and blood-curdling howls should be enough to scare other creatures away.
01:31But if not, it's worth noting that they also have one of the strongest bite forces relative to total body mass in the animal kingdom.
01:39Black rhinos may seem laid back at first glance, but they can put those impressive horns to deadly use.
01:47Nervous and aggressive when threatened, black rhinos typically respond to threats by charging straight at them.
01:53It's something that more than a few tourists have learned first hand.
01:57These big mammals can move surprisingly fast too, up to 35 miles per hour.
02:03Black rhinos are known to lock horns with one another come mating season.
02:07They actually have one of the highest death rates from combat amongst all mammals.
02:11Approximately half of all males and a third of all females die fighting one another throughout their lifespan.
02:19So it turns out that these huge reptiles that can grow up to 20 feet long, way over a ton and have huge mouths full of teeth are rather aggressive.
02:28Go figure!
02:34Native to the coastlines and islands of Southeast Asia and Northern Australia, the saltwater crocodile might look lethargic for much of the time, but when they're active, watch out!
02:49They have the most powerful bite force of any living animal and can move with surprising speed.
02:55Whoa!
02:56They're also highly territorial and won't hesitate to attack anything that encroaches on their turf, including humans.
03:06Found all over the Northern Hemisphere, leased weasels are small carnivores that typically measure less than a foot in length.
03:13But despite their small size, these weasels are very aggressive.
03:17It's honestly essential to their survival to be able to survive in the wild.
03:22They need to eat 30-50% of their body weight every day, which leads them to most of the potential prey they come across, even if it's several times their size.
03:32Even having a full stomach won't stop leased weasels from attacking.
03:36Their bloodlust is that ingrained.
03:38While they generally don't attack humans, anything smaller than the average dog is a target for these wily little hunters.
03:45One of the largest living birds after ostriches and emus, the cassowary mostly eats fruit and the occasional small animal,
03:52but it's still considered one of the deadliest birds on Earth.
03:55The main thing you worry about is their feet, their most deadly weapon.
03:58Native to the islands of Oceania and Australia, cassowaries look like living dinosaurs and they're almost as dangerous.
04:08Help me!
04:10Help me!
04:13Although generally non-confrontational, if they feel provoked or threatened, they will attack with their powerful legs and sharp claws, which can easily cause lethal wounds.
04:22This guy uses a thick shield to protect himself during an attack.
04:27Given how fast they are, you won't be able to outrun them, so keep your distance.
04:32Thankfully, they tend to inhabit deep rainforests where their coloring makes them stand out.
04:38Number 5. African Buffalo
04:40When it comes to the most dangerous animals in Africa, the African buffalo or Cape buffalo is probably not the first one that comes to mind.
04:47Yet these large-horned herd animals are reportedly responsible for hundreds of deaths a year.
04:52They're nicknamed the Black Death and like a plague, they can attack without warning.
04:57Their distinctive horns can kill just as easily as a rhino's and they're also quick on their hooves when the mood strikes them.
05:03These buffaloes are also said to hold a grudge.
05:06If you injure or threaten them, they may even remember you later on, or so the stories go.
05:12These impressive creatures have even been known to kill lions.
05:16Number 4. Hippopotamus
05:18Now look, Zazu, you made me lose my lunch.
05:21Ha! You'll lose more than that when the king gets through with you. He's as mad as a hippo with a hernia.
05:26Hippos are semi-aquatic mammals that, while soft and non-threatening in appearance, are still one of the deadliest mammals in Africa.
05:34Their huge jaws and massive teeth can easily prove lethal to humans and any other animals they attack.
05:40Although their diet doesn't usually include meat and they tend to be more placid on land,
05:45hippos are prone to overturning boats on rivers, attacking passengers who fall out of them.
05:50There's a hippo underwater right in front of me.
05:54They're estimated to be responsible for somewhere between 500 and 3,000 deaths annually.
05:59Hippos' large size and tremendous bite also makes them more than a match for most predators.
06:04Basically, don't go near them unless you're willing to risk being chomped.
06:09Number 3. Black Mamba
06:11Venomous snakes in general tend to be pretty trigger-happy with those lightning-fast weapons embedded in their mouths.
06:18But black mambas are especially dangerous.
06:30Although, like most animals, they won't attack unless provoked or threatened, black mamba's venom is an extremely potent neurotoxin.
06:37The venom of a black mamba can kill a human being in four hours if, say, bitten on the ankle or the thumb.
06:43When they strike humans, the neurotoxin can result in symptoms within minutes and death within a matter of hours.
06:49This timeline is shorter if they strike multiple times, which is all too common.
06:54Jesus, look at the length of him!
06:56Oh my God!
06:57See, there's another mongoose coming.
06:59That is awesome!
07:01Their attacks on animals are far more frequent, and they have few predators.
07:06Animals that target black mambas tend not to live very long, except our top pick.
07:11Number 2. Wolverine
07:14A relative of the weasel, wolverines are the size of dogs, and are famous for their ferocity.
07:19Native to the far north worldwide, wolverines are generally scavengers.
07:23Still, in a cold climate, there is plenty of competition among predators, and they have been known to stand up to larger foes, like wolves and bears.
07:31Wolverines will eat anything and everything. Seriously, they're not above eating bones and teeth.
07:44They're also known to attack prey many times their size, like deer and moose.
07:49Thankfully, they aren't known for killing humans, but we'd still be wary about approaching one.
07:54Before we get to our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions.
07:58Wild boar. These pigs can attack and gore you with surprising speed if threatened.
08:10Common shrew. Small but fiercely territorial, the mammals have eaten and attacked pets and humans.
08:19Africanized bee, a.k.a. killer bee. Honey bees that sting in greater numbers and follow you farther? No thanks.
08:27Elephant seal. Their noses seem silly, but these huge seals engage in deadly fights come mating season.
08:33The last thing they want is to get caught amongst this lot, and neither do I.
08:39Bull shark. These sharks can survive in freshwater, leading to greater numbers of attacks up rivers.

08:49mating season.

09:31Honey badger. If there's one animal that punches above its weight class, it's the
09:36honey badger. While only a few feet long, honey badgers are known to fight off huge
09:40predators like lions and leopards.
09:48That aggressive behavior and complete lack of fear is probably due to how well adapted
09:53the honey badger's body is. Its skin is both loose and incredibly durable, allowing
09:57it to escape uninjured from the jaws of larger animals.
10:04This is the best defense.
10:07Honey badgers are also remarkably resistant to snake venom and insect stings. Like the
10:13memes say, honey badgers don't give a... What? What do you mean we can't say that word?
10:22But seriously, honey badgers are little badasses.
