00:00Hello, everybody. We are going to start dinner together. First, we're going to get the meat
00:20sliced and browning on the stove. Because we're going to be doing, this is round steaks
00:29and this is a bottom, round steak. I found these all in the reduced area at Kroger. We're
00:39going to do roast beef and mashed potatoes and green beef. Probably find one other, probably
00:47another side going. Grab the trash can real quick. This is something that is easy to do.
00:59I don't do fat. I don't like it. Not my thing. Cut it off. I have a cut thumb, so I have my
01:17band-aid and then I have a finger thing off of it, on it. There's a big old piece of fat
01:29running through this piece of this steak. Like I said, I'm not one for cooking fat. I don't like
01:36it. I don't like it in my mouth. I don't like it at all. Some people think that's crazy, but that's
01:46it. I don't like it. I don't like to see grease in my food floating before I eat it. Of course,
01:52I'm going to turn off this. These are kitchen scissors that I use quite often. Go ahead and
02:05cut this up into pieces. We're going to put it in the Instapot to cook with onion soup mix,
02:16which I'm going to show you how to do that once I get this going on the stove to brown. Brown
02:21the meat on the stove and then I will put white, like I said, while it's browning. Then I can,
02:33I'll show you how to do my onion soup mix. When I was pregnant with Noah, I started having horrible,
02:44migraines. He is now 18. Migraines did not go away after he was born, so I've had to learn how to
02:54cook and mix stuff over the years. The original recipe that I had for the onion soup mix, I don't,
03:09I have changed it over the years to suit me how I like it. Because when I first, when we first
03:17made it, it was, I made it according to recipe. I did it that way, but I found that if I was going
03:24to be using the onion soup mix in a pot on the stove, that the flour in it would get everything,
03:31the flour that was in the soup mix would be thickening up everything and it would stick in
03:37the pot. Well, I don't want my food, I don't want to, I don't like stuff sticking, that's not a good
03:45plan either. So, I thought, okay, we're going to see if we can change this a little bit. Plus,
03:54with the original recipe, you put cooking, vegetable cooking oil in it. Well, that's
04:01something else I just don't really care for, doing, you know, that's another, putting more
04:06fat in your food. Or that, I don't like to see it floating business, so. And I know, I am weird.
04:12I'm just going to sprinkle a little, whoo, that got a little more, a little more than I wanted on there. Put a little bit of meat tenderizer on this, and I'm going to get this going. I'm going to work on cutting up this other, I won't be cooking all of this meat tonight, but I will go ahead and get it cooking. Well, not cooking, I will cut it while I'm all
04:36doing food, the food prep part of all this, because this way I can't get more than one thing, you know, to go at a time.
04:46Like there, to put this other on. And you can, I mean, you could do this with beef stew meat, you could do it, you know, these just happen to be what I found that was marked down, different sizes, different cuts, you know, it just kind of depends on what
05:16what you like. I use this onion soup mix when I do roast, when I also make a chicken and rice casserole in the oven, I use this onion soup mix. So anything that you're doing, putting onion soup in normally, that's what you would be, use that for.
05:46It just kind of depends on what all you normally, how you normally cook. I don't, I have tried the better than bouillon stuff, I don't, it's not really my thing. And I guess it serves a purpose, but I would just as soon rather use my onion soup mix that I make, and a little bit of
06:16the banquet brown gravy, something. That's not the right word. It's brown, it'd be browning sauce, is what I'm thinking. We'll show you that too. Get this flipped over here, once it starts sticking.
06:42Now make sure I don't touch stuff with this other hand, since it does have raw meat on it. So, see this way we can just trim. Like I said, I don't leave, I don't like that.
07:06And of course, you could do, you know, anything that you wanted to use the soup mix for. I mean, you could always put onion soup mix with beef broth and cooked vegetables. I just, I store all, I mean, I usually when I make it, I make up a big batch.
07:29And you know, that's another thing you can, some people like less onion, more onion. I put more onion, the dried onions in it, and that's just, like I said, it's just what I prefer. It's all up, I mean, it's however you personally like to cook.
07:54I'm just kidding, y'all just wait for a moment. Fat, this is nonsense.
08:01Okay, I'm over here turning my beef again. Because really all we're doing over here, all we want to do is kind of brown it a little. Not really do a, we're just not cooking it. Cooking it over here on the stove.
08:31Because I will actually put it in my instant pot to actually cook it.
08:43So, and normally I would brown it in my cast iron skillet, but with me working on cutting up meat and needing to pay attention to what's going on over here camera-wise, I was afraid that it might stick and cause a big ol' mess.
09:07I would just have a smoky kitchen. That would just show y'all that, yeah, we are not perfect. It doesn't matter how long you have cooked or anything, it doesn't matter. You can still burn stuff just as well as the next person.
09:25It's just the way it goes.
09:30But I don't like to purposely, or non-purposely, purposely any of that. I try not to, you know, cause food to burn or stick or do all that.
09:45Cause what food costs, I don't like to waste food.
09:51As good as those groceries cost us a lot of money.
09:56Now I'm going to be doing this in a bowl. Start with the mashed potatoes on the bottom and put our meat and some gravy over on top of it.
10:06You could, you know, do it as a beef stew bowl. There's plenty of ways to eat your beef.
10:20Some people use teriyaki and kind of do it like a stir-fry using teriyaki sauce as the way to make your marinade.
10:47So you could always, you know, cook your meat in it and then let it drain to put it with grilled peppers and onions to do like a stir-fry.
11:10There's lots of different ways you can do different things.
11:17It sounds like Peter. Not Peter.
11:21Noah and Princess have been outside.
11:35Okay.
11:40Is it already done?
11:43Yeah, it's probably going to start to flame.
11:45Okay.
11:46That's a good luck.
11:47That's a shed.
11:48Oh.
11:49That's what I meant.
11:50Gotcha.
11:52Noah streamed earlier today and then him and Princess were out making bet. Noah was working out and so that meant...
12:01Well, I didn't let him take care of himself.
12:04Okay.
12:05Okay.
12:06Therefore, Princess thought she needed to go outside and play, which is fine today.
12:12It's kind of on the chiller side outside here.
12:15It's spring.
12:17Things have been blown away by the nasty cold wind.
12:23But at least we're not getting the snow that other people are getting.
12:27Thank goodness.
12:28I don't want that.
12:31Our blueberry plants have little bugs on them.
12:35I'm praying that all this crazy weather has not killed them.
12:42Because we have lots and lots of wood.
12:46But this is typical here lately for weather around here not to be changing.
12:54Doing all sorts of crazy things.
12:56We are back.
12:57I have gotten my Instapot.
13:00Cool.
13:01I've got the meat and water in there.
13:08Now, the original recipe to make your onion soup mix called for to use oil and flour.
13:21But I've decided that I don't like doing it that way.
13:24I do like using more onion.
13:28And it doesn't matter what onion powder, salt, what you use.
13:33I've got everything from McCormick.
13:36This one's a Simply Truth organic onion powder.
13:41This is organic onion powder from Walmart.
13:50This is just regular chopped onions from Kroger.
13:54Here's a McCormick onion powder.
13:57There's another onion powder.
13:59It really doesn't matter how you do it.
14:02I store mine, after I get it all mixed up, in a jar.
14:07This is a quart size jar.
14:08It stays on my shelf in the pantry.
14:11And so I don't need any, but I was just going to show y'all.
14:18This gets a little dusty.
14:21Now, this is 4.87 ounces.
14:25I love checking the reduced area at the grocery store because you never know what you may find.
14:35And these chopped onions were one of those finds.
14:40I think it'd be a dollar, what, 72 for this container.
14:45I'm just going to use the whole container.
14:47It doesn't matter.
14:49Like I said, we've got plenty of onions.
14:53So, I just put that.
14:55So this ended up being, what, about a cup and, let's see, yeah.
15:00It said it was 4.87 ounces.
15:05So, it's a little, oh, a little, I think that must be just what it weighs
15:12because there's a whole lot more than that.
15:15Okay, so, I have the onions in here.
15:18And then, let's see.
15:21This is the onion powder.
15:24I really like using more of the onion powder
15:30because it says that when you're making it, I think it's a half a cup of onions at a time.
15:35So this is what it's considered for two.
15:38So, I'm just going to use a nice big, this is a tablespoon, that's of your onion powder.
15:47Like I said, I like the onion flavor,
15:51but I don't want to have a lot of extra sodium
15:58because that's part of what you're trying to cut down on your onion salt.
16:03So, I'm only going to put a teaspoon of onion salt in here.
16:08Maybe just a tiny more, a bit more.
16:12So then, you're just going to, I'm just going to use my measure that I used to measure it out.
16:23I'm just going to mix it all up in here.
16:26I'm not sure it didn't all fall to the bottom.
16:30But, I just mix it up together.
16:34And usually I shake up my, you saw me shaking my jar up just a few minutes ago.
16:38There's something, I don't know what that is.
16:40Something brown in there.
16:43I think it's a piece of foil off the jar.
16:46That jar of onions.
16:48So, basically all that's in here is your onion salt,
16:53your chopped onions, and your onion powder.
16:56Then, I'm going to take about a teaspoon of this.
17:03Probably about two heaping teaspoons.
17:07Put it in here.
17:09You could always use more.
17:10Just whatever you want to do.
17:14I'm going to add a little more.
17:15Okay.
17:16Now, like I said, in the general, in the first recipe,
17:21it said to mix your chopped onions and all your onion powder, onion salt.
17:26They also recommended sugar.
17:28I don't put sugar in mine.
17:30And a tablespoon of vegetable oil.
17:33I don't use that.
17:34And then a tablespoon of potato starch flour.
17:38That flour was just to help soak it up and bind it.
17:44But, I have since decided I really don't like the flour being in it.
17:50Let's see, y'all.
17:51I'm looking for a...
17:54This is my half.
17:59My measuring spoons are all right there in the drawer of my island.
18:04I'm going to shake up.
18:05This is the browning and seasoning sauce.
18:08It is brown, brown, brown.
18:12And this is a brand new bottle.
18:14As you can tell, you can hear it clicking.
18:18And it doesn't take much of this to give it that brown color.
18:28I think this has a lot of sodium in it.
18:31Well, it does have sodium in it.
18:32I can't read right off hand how much it is
18:35because I don't have my brownie glasses on.
18:38But I'll read it and tell you in a second.
18:40So, I've put the onion soup, our homemade onion soup in here.
18:43There's water.
18:44There's our stew meat.
18:46And I've just put the browning sauce in there.
18:49Let's see.
18:51It says, well, there's not as much sodium in here.
18:54It just says five milligrams for one teaspoon.
18:58So, there's not a whole lot in there.
19:00That's good.
19:01But we're going to start our crock pot.
19:03Our crock pot.
19:04This isn't a crock pot.
19:06This is a pressure cooker.
19:09So, let's sit here.
19:11We're going to get it all turned on here.
19:13Let's see.
19:14We're going to pressure cook this.
19:16I'm going to start it.
19:19And I will pick up the video once it is ready to come out and be served.
19:26Finished product.
19:28I just took some out and put it on the cutting board.
19:32We're just going to slice it.
19:38Like I said, you could serve it with mashed potatoes.
19:43You could always put it over rice.
19:45Or you could cut your meat up and put it on with potatoes and carrots.
19:53We could always do it many different ways.
19:56Now that it's cooked, you could also let it cool off, cut it in strips, and put it on your first sandwich.
20:06Grab a plate.
20:10Okay.
20:11Sit.
20:15And I still have everything in the Instant Pot.
20:20But I have also used a little cornstarch and water.
20:24And I have thickened the broth so it's more like a gravy consistency.
20:34And here is the final product.
20:39I think you're going to zoom in over there.
20:41What are you doing?
20:49Okay.
20:56Well, I will see you next time.
20:58We're fixing to have dinner as a family.
21:00Bye.
21:01Music
21:09.
21:19.
