Farnham Youth Choir have been competing in the Interkultur World Choir Games in Auckland, New Zealand. The young singers have had the trip of a lifetime arriving at their hotel at lunchtime on Monday, July 15.
On their first full day in New Zealand, the singers got straight to work rehearsing for the Secondary Schools Competition in the Town Hall.
The singers mingled with people from all around the world including China, New Zealand, India and the USA. They signed into a flashmob for the World Choir Council and joined the parade of nations on Quay Street.
The next day started with rehearsals in a church and finished with a very impressive performance in the Sacred Music category. The singers and staff were very tired and drained after this but had to recover quickly as more competitions were to come. over the next few days.
Day three saw the singers still perform a friendship concert and rehearsals. The singers got the time to do a little bit of swimming and shopping and also to have a sneak peek at the competition.
It was back to competing on day four with a morning of rehearsals and finishing touches as they prepared for their evening performance. The choir performed brilliantly with the audience responding with a huge congratulations as they walked off stage.
The singers headed off to Spark Arena for an awards ceremony on day five with the choir achieving two gold medals which Patrick and senior leader Freya went up to collect whilst being cheered on by the rest of the choir.
Farnham Youth Choir’s final day in Auckland was spent sightseeing and relaxing after an amazing trip. Parents will be waiting anxiously to hear the stories and memories the children will have when they get back home.
