00:00July 2024 has been a truly chaotic period in American politics, so it's understandable
00:06if you missed some of the little details, like why Donald Trump was so worried about
00:10his shoes after being shot.
00:13Trump's ear was grazed by a bullet at a July 13 campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania,
00:18where a gunman fired several shots toward the former president and the crowd. One attendee,
00:24firefighter Corey Comperatore, was killed, and two others were injured. If you've seen
00:29the footage from the rally, you may have heard this comment that the microphones caught.
00:33It might seem strange to think of one's wardrobe just after an attempted assassination, but
00:40the former president shed some light on his unexpected comment in a July 14 interview
00:45with the New York Post. A reporter spoke with him on his plane ride to the Republican National
00:49Convention in Milwaukee. Trump said,
00:52"'The agents hit me so hard that my shoes fell off, and my shoes are tight.'"
00:57Trump was clearly in a state of shock as blood trickled down the right side of his face.
01:01It just goes to show how, in that frame of mind, it's easy to get caught up in the details
01:05instead of focusing on the big picture. But the former president did have the presence
01:09of mind to hold up a fist to the crowd and chant, "'Fight!" drawing cheers from the
01:13crowd.
01:19It's also no secret that Trump has been focused on maintaining a particular look for decades
01:24now. According to Footwear News, part of his long-standing signature style is a dark-colored
01:29leather dress shoe with a slightly elevated square heel and a rounded toe. He has been
01:34wearing those types of shoes since the 1980s and appeared to be sporting that style at
01:38the rally, too.
01:40Trump is very rarely seen not wearing a suit and his signature long tie. On the golf course,
01:45he'll dress down a bit and wear a polo shirt with some golf shoes. But he has no problem
01:50at least selling casual wear to his supporters.
01:53Back in March, he unveiled a sneaker line that ranges in price from $199 to $399 per
01:59pair. The most expensive, the Never Surrender High Tops, which are gold and sport an American
02:05flag motif, sold out very quickly.
02:08Perhaps unsurprisingly, there are some new items in the line — sneakers that depict
02:12Trump with a bloody face holding up a fist with the words, "'Fight! Fight! Fight!'
02:16below him. They're going for $299.
