00:00The Simpsons has predicted everything from Super Bowl winners to corporate mergers, but
00:05the next president of the United States?
00:07Did a decades-old episode drop clues about Kamala Harris' future?
00:11The Simpsons has gained renown over the last few years for its fairly accurate Nostradamus-like
00:16ability to seemingly predict the future, but the latest example may be predicting a more
00:21immediate future that's yet to come.
00:24In the flash-forward episode, Bart to the Future, which aired in 2000, Lisa becomes
00:29Wearing purple and pearls, she finds herself coping with a budget crunch left behind by
00:33the previous president, Donald Trump.
00:36Solving the financial gap threatens to ruin her popularity, as it means raising taxes.
00:40As you know, we've inherited quite a budget crunch from President Trump.
00:45Is it a stretch that a lot of fans think Lisa's victory foreshadows one for Vice President
00:49Kamala Harris, now that Biden has dropped out of the race?
00:52On X, multiple users have noticed that the outfit the adult Lisa wears resembles the
00:56one Harris wore to her inauguration as vice president, with even their pearl necklaces
01:01and earrings matching.
01:03One user wrote,
01:04"'The Simpsons' creators are clairvoyants, or did Kamala Harris have a private joke?"
01:08Images of Lisa placed side-by-side with Vice President Harris gained so much attention
01:13that The Simpsons writer and co-showrunner Al Jean took note.
01:16Posting on his X account, he wrote,
01:18"'The Simpsons' prediction I'm proud to be a part of."
01:21Jean also attached pictures of Lisa and Harris in similar outfits.
01:24With 30-plus seasons of content, it's not too far-fetched to assume that Simpsons fans
01:29are picking and choosing the so-called prescient aspects of the show, with Lisa's purple pantsuit
01:34being just the latest example.
01:36That said, the show writers have long been aware of the show's impact on pop culture
01:40and real-life events.
01:41Sometimes they make those statements on purpose.
01:43But The Future writer Dan Greeney previously commented on his then-outlandish choice to
01:48make Donald Trump president in The Simpsons' world.
01:51He told The Hollywood Reporter,
01:52"...it was a warning to America, and that just seemed like the logical last stop before
01:56hitting bottom.
01:57It was pitched because it was consistent with the vision of America going insane."
02:01He added that Trump was chosen as a figurehead because Lisa needed to triumph against impossible
02:06odds, which the Trump presidency provides her with.
02:09To Greeney, it's just one more example of the way The Simpsons parodies American cultural
02:13excess.
02:14"'Lisa's the president?
02:15I'm a pathetic loser?
02:16I gotta be honest, I'm not loving this vision.'"
02:20Putting aside Donald Trump's presidential victory, The Simpsons has apparently predicted
02:24dozens of future events that have been echoed by reality over the years.
02:29The best example of this just might be the time that The Simpsons managed to predict
02:32the winner of the Super Bowl over three times.
02:35The episode titled Lisa the Greek aired just before Super Bowl XXVI, and the show's writers
02:40managed to correctly predict a Washington victory over the Buffalo Bills.
02:44Fox rolled the dice again by redubbing the episode for broadcast before Super Bowl XXVII
02:49and correctly predicted that the Dallas Cowboys would win.
02:52They did it again for Super Bowl XXVIII, and once again predicted the correct outcome.
02:57Perhaps the series' writers should open a betting parlor.
