00:21Venezuela's social housing program, called the Great Housing Mission, has created nearly

00:275 million housing units for working-class families since it was first founded by

00:31President Hugo Chavez in 2011. Like the Giorgi Rodriguez Padre apartments in Caracas Antimano

00:38Parish, a large percentage of them are built by the people who will end up owning them,

00:42who receive technical support and training in areas like construction,

00:46electrical work and plumbing to manage the projects themselves.

00:49Article 82, which is consecrated in our constitution, guarantees dignified housing

00:59as a right for all people who live within Venezuelan territory. They don't necessarily

01:04have to be Venezuelan by birth. Everyone who lives in our homeland and considers themselves

01:09a resident has a right to housing. But the Venezuelan opposition wants to destroy everything

01:14that has ever been created by the power of the people.

01:20The Great Housing Mission, which has a goal of reaching 7 million housing units by the year 2030,

01:25has won praise worldwide. But as the presidential elections loom,

01:30many are wondering what will happen to it if the far-right coalition,

01:34which has announced plans for deep austerity cuts and privatizations, wins the election.

01:39We don't have to go back to bars to figure out what the far-right tried to do. When the

01:44opposition won the legislative elections in 2015, one of the first and one of the steel

01:50acts they tried the best was to be partially surprised by the housing mission. It caused a

01:54lot of backlash from grassroots movements and what eventually struck down as unconstitutional

01:59Biden took to the court.
