Residents flee their homes as floodwater rises in Marikina City

Flood-affected people take shelter inside school building turned into a temporary evacuation center in Marikina City, Metro Manila, Philippines, July 24, 2024. Interior and Local Government Secretary Benhur Abalos recommended on July 24 the declaration of a state of calamity in Metro Manila as thousands of residents fled their homes due to the massive flooding brought about by the Southwest Monsoon that is being enhanced by Typhoon Carina (international name: Gaemi).
