UK and Germany unite on defence to boost military ties

The deal comes as freshly elected Prime Minister Keir Starmer aims to "reset" the UK's security ties with the EU.

00:00Germany and Britain have signed a joint declaration committing to closer collaboration to enhance
00:06their defence industries, bolster European security and support Ukraine.
00:11German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius met with his British counterpart John Healey,
00:16who was welcomed with military honours in Berlin.
00:19Pistorius empathised the desire for a closer partnership between Britain and Germany.
00:24We want and we need to work together more closely. We want to put our relationship on
00:30a new foundation and that's why we signed the joint declaration today.
00:36We want to strengthen our armaments industry. Secondly, we want to work together more closely
00:41in the development, production and procurement of weapons and ammunition.
00:45The new British government has vowed to reset relations with Europe post-Brexit.
00:51So with Keir Starmer now as Prime Minister and a new election mandate, this is a new
00:55government determined to reset relations with Europe, not just by signing pieces of paper
01:00but in the way that we act together, we work together and that we make Britain democracy's
01:09most reliable ally.
01:11Mr Healey will also travel to Estonia on Thursday to visit the UK troops stationed there.
