00:53Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Alejandra García from Telesur Studios in
00:58Havana, Cuba.
00:59We begin with the news.
01:12In Venezuela, the candidate for the great patriotic Paul Nicolás Maduro reiterated
01:16his denunciation that international media, together with the local far-right, seeks to
01:21make invisible the forces of the Bolivarian revolution.
01:25In this sense, during his visit to the state of Mérida, Maduro warned that the Venezuelan
01:30far-right, together with its communicational allies, such as the Spanish agency EFE, the
01:36public television of Spain, the Spanish newspaper El País, financed by the United States, are
01:42preparing to shot-throw in the upcoming presidential elections.
01:47In this way, Maduro described these international media as anti-Venezuelan communicative psychics
01:53who are linked to the far-right to generate violence and hate in his nation.
02:04They have the resource of shooting from the left.
02:07They are already doing it, with their United States allies, the far-right and what I call
02:13the media hitmen of the first and the light.
02:18The Spanish agency EFE, the Spanish public television, the newspaper El País, are the
02:24three sources in Spanish where every day they speak badly of Venezuela.
02:30Every day they lie and they are ready to shoot fraud.
02:33CNN in Spanish, media hitmen, anti-Venezuelans, but I have news for you.
02:41After 30 elections we are used to it and we are going to win.
02:45We are going to celebrate and on the 29th Venezuelans dance in peace, peace, peace.
02:54Likewise the candidate for the great patriotic poll assured that in Venezuela the fascist
02:58far-right will be defeated through the votes on July 28th.
03:05And that those garbage international hitmen stay with their lies and manipulations because
03:12the fascist far-right like Vox in Spain, the fascist far-right like Bolsonaro in Brazil,
03:19the fascist far-right like Uribe, Iván Duque, the fascist far-right like Millet in Argentina,
03:25in Venezuela shall not pass, they will not come here, they will not return.
03:31We will defeat them with votes, vote, vote, vote and popular triumph.
03:39Also in Venezuela the candidate for the great patriotic poll, Nicolás Maduro, was received
03:44by the people in Cogedes State in support of his candidacy for the elections to be held
03:48on July 28th.
03:50The presidential candidate visited the town of San Pablo in Cogedes State where he was
03:55received with a great mobilization in support of his candidacy.
03:59During his visit, Nicolás Maduro urged the Venezuelan people to vote in the presidential
04:03elections for the peace of the country.
04:06This great mobilization in San Pablo is being developed as part of the tour that he, the
04:12candidate, has made with the Venezuelan people throughout the national territory.
04:21And here I am, my compatriots.
04:28People of Cogedes.
04:31I am Nicolás Maduro Moros, son of Chávez, and I will win the presidential elections
04:41next Sunday in Cogedes.
04:45US Vice President Kamala Harris launched her campaign for the Democratic Party's endorsement
04:52for the upcoming presidential election.
04:54The Democratic hopeful pledged to strengthen the middle class and criticized her main opponent's
05:00stance.
05:01Harris ran through a list of liberal priorities and said that if elected, she would act to
05:06expand access to abortion, make it easier for workers to join unions and address gun
05:12violence in stark contrast to Donald Trump's proposals.
05:17In turn, the Vice President highlighted her commitment to reproductive rights, an issue
05:22that has ranked Republicans since the US Supreme Court, pushed by three Trump-appointed
05:28justices, struck down the nation's right to abortion in 2022.

05:52Welcome back.
05:59On Tuesday in Argentina, experts warned that the economic recession is deepening in the
06:04South American nation as a result of the neoliberal policies of the government of Javier Millet.
06:09In this sense, specialists emphasized that Argentina is in a period of recession after
06:15several consecutive quarters of a failing domestic product.
06:19This way, as one of the main causes of economic decline, is the decrease in the purchasing
06:24power which limits the demand for products, which in turn reduces investment and affects
06:29the supply of jobs, in addition to the drop of almost 20% in the production of small and
06:35medium-sized companies in an inflationary context that has been affecting the population
06:41since the beginning of the government of Javier Millet.
06:48The president of the state-owned Yacimientos Petroleros Fiscales Bolivianos, Armin Dorgathan,
06:54said the company was reducing its dispatch of diesel fuel by 22% due to climatic reasons.
07:00During a press conference held on Tuesday, Dorgathan said that it was not possible to
07:05unload ships with diesel and oil in the Port of África due to the rough sea and neither
07:11across the Paraguayan-Paraná waterway due to its low water level.
07:16The official indicated that they are looking for alternatives, land routes, and assured
07:21that the distribution of gasoline is normal.
07:30Diesel dispatches at national level were reduced by 22%.
07:33This is due to climatic factors.
07:35We have two climatic factors today that are complicating our logistics.
07:40The first one, the waterway, which are the fuel supply points we have in the country.
07:44It's only one meter deep.
07:46The minimum needed for the operation is two meters, therefore we are not able to introduce
07:51fuel through this access route.
07:53And the second problem we have is the waves in Arrica, in our Port of Arrica.
07:58The European Union announced that it will start sending money to Ukraine in August from
08:03the profits of frozen Russian assets.
08:06The announcement was made by the Union's representative for foreign affairs and security policy, Josep
08:11Borrell, who said the first tranche of $1.5 billion will be made early August.
08:18Borrell specified that the funds will be used to meet the key needs of the Ukrainian army,
08:23including air defence, artillery systems, and ammunition.
08:31In this context, the Russian government called Thief the European Union's plan to use the
08:36interest earned on frozen Russian assets to finance military aid to Ukraine.
08:41Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said legal action would be taken against anyone involved
08:47in the European bloc's decision, saying it was a violation of property rights.
08:57On the other hand, the Hungarian government accused fellow European Union members of what
09:02it called a shameless rule breach to bypass its objections to sending funds from Russian
09:07assets to Ukraine.
09:09The European Union had already decided in May to use profits from the Russian assets
09:15frozen in the bloc's zone to assist Ukraine, but Hungary had been holding up its approval.
09:21Budapest's relations with Moscow have been warmer than that of the rest of the European
09:27Union members.
09:29Prime Minister Viktor Orban has criticised the other European bloc countries and NATO
09:33members for sending arms to Ukraine, saying they are feeling the war.
09:43In Portugal, the National Federation of Doctors went on strike in Lisbon on Tuesday to demand
09:48a salary increase from the Ministry of Health.
09:51The health workers gathered in the early morning hours at the Santa Maria Hospital, located
09:56next to the university city of Lisbon.
09:59In addition to salary increases, the Union is also demanding a 35-hour working day, 12
10:05hours in the case of emergency services and the reinstatement of internships in the career.
10:11The workers are accusing the government of not responding their demands, postponing the
10:15salary negotiations to 2025 and excluding the provision of the formal working day and
10:22the reinstatement of internships in the medical career.
10:26The strike is expected to continue until Wednesday, July 24th.
10:47In Vietnam, authorities and emergency services remain on alert due to heavy rains and thunderstorms
10:53taking place in the last few hours.
10:56The National Centre of Hydro-Meteorological Forecasts informed that in the northern and
11:01middle areas of the central region, the central highlands will be affected due to scattered
11:07thunderstorms with rainfall from 15 to 30 millimetres.
11:12Likewise, rainfall in the northern region and the Thanh Hoa province will gradually
11:17decrease as of July 25th.
11:19On the other hand, authorities warn citizens to stay indoors while strong winds are present
11:24in the northwestern part of the country.
11:31In Ethiopia, at least 157 people die after two landslides in remote areas affected by
11:37rains.
11:38Authorities reported that most of the victims were buried in the landslide, while rescue
11:43teams were searching the ground for survivors of another landslide the day before.
11:48Among those affected in Kensho Sashakotsi district in southern Ethiopia were pregnant
11:54women and young children.
11:56It was also reported that the number of dead is expected to rise in the coming hours as
12:01rescue operations continue with the search efforts.

12:19Constant news coverage of Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as the rest of the
12:23world.
12:24Final show break, don't go away.
12:46Welcome back to From the South.
12:53In Palestine, the genocidal Israeli army bombed several eastern areas of Kanjunis, killing
12:59at least 71 people and injuring 200 in the Gaza Strip.
13:03Medical authorities stated that in the face of the violent aggression, thousands of Gazans
13:08were forced to move in very bad humanitarian and sanitary conditions.
13:12The Palestinian Red Crescent Society announced that two of its clinics in the east of Kanjunis
13:18were withdrawn by orders of the Zionist occupation.
13:21The eastern areas of Kanjunis have been subjected to constant Israeli attacks, forcing civilians
13:27to seek refugee in distant areas.
13:36Look at the people, how they are now.
13:39It is a very painful scene.
13:41Where is the Arab conscience, where is the world?
13:44They are looking at what is happening to us, that there is no treatment and no life.
13:49They look at the children and the elderly.
13:51They just look at them while they are being displaced.
14:00We were sitting in our house, then the Israeli army called us to evacuate the area and leave.
14:06We don't know what happened.
14:08We have no money, no food, no nothing.
14:12Where are they going?
14:14We and our children will sit in the street while the shelling is over our heads.
14:19Meanwhile on Tuesday, 14 Palestinian movements signed the Beijing Declaration, agreeing to
14:24promote a national unity government in the midst of the Israeli genocide in Gaza and
14:29the expansion of illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank.
14:33This way, under the mediation of China, the signatories including Fatah, Hamas and the
14:38Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine pledged to promote comprehensive national
14:43unity, including all factions within the framework of the Organization for the Liberation of
14:47Palestine.
14:48In this regard, they also agreed to establish an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem
14:54as its capital, in accordance with United Nations resolutions.
14:58The signing culminated a second round of intra-Palestinian dialogue that took place in China.
15:08Today, we sign an agreement for national unity, and we say that the path to completing this
15:16journey is national unity.
15:18We are committed to national unity and we call for it.
15:24For his part, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who attended the signing ceremony, called
15:29the event an important historic milestone in the cause of Palestinian liberation.
15:36The most important consensus of this Beijing dialogue among Palestinian factions is to
15:43commit to the great reconciliation and great unity of all 14 factions.
15:49The core result is that it is clear that the Palestine Liberation Organization is the only
15:55legitimate representative of the Palestinian people.
15:59The most prominent highlight is the agreement to form an interim national reconciliation
16:04government around the governance of post-war Gaza.
16:09In this context, the head of Chinese diplomacy called for a comprehensive ceasefire in the
16:14Gaza Strip.
16:18The first step is to push for a comprehensive, lasting and sustainable ceasefire in the Gaza
16:23Strip as soon as possible to ensure smooth access for humanitarian aid and relief.
16:29No excuse can justify harming civilians and prolong the war.
16:33The international community should further consolidate its efforts on the issue of ceasefire
16:37and cessation of hostilities.
16:42Let's go to Kenya, where on Tuesday, the anti-government protest movement is holding demonstrations
16:47across the country after President William Ruto appointed members of the cabinet he had
16:51dismissed a week earlier.
16:53In this sense, demonstrators organized a nationwide rally, while in Kenya's capital they also
16:58mobilized to march to the airport, prompting a police warning.
17:03For their part, social activists reiterated that they want Ruto's government to step down
17:08and demand reforms to end corruption and address poor governance and service delivery in national
17:14and regional governments.
17:16Meanwhile, protesters continued to defend their constitutional right despite government
17:21repression.
17:22We are presently in CBD exercising our constitutional right to protest under Article 37.
17:33It is our right to be here.
17:35It is our right to fair comments.
17:38It is our right to peacefully share our concerns.
17:42And no one has a right to stop us from exercising our rights.
17:47In Uganda, officers and military forcibly arrested dozens of demonstrators rallying
17:52against high-level corruption.
17:54The police and the army repressed rallies in Kampala capital, where they forced many
18:00protesters to get on trucks and proceeded to incarcerate them.
18:04The Ugandans took to the streets to march towards the national parliament as part of
18:08anti-corruption demonstrations that seek to stimulate the efforts of residents of neighboring
18:13Kenya, whose street actions recently made President William Ruto dismiss almost his
18:19entire cabinet following widespread opposition to a controversial tax proposal.
18:41The Argentinean women's field hockey team known as Las Leonas was among the first to
18:46settle into the Paris 2024 Olympic Village.
18:49The team dreams of winning their first ever gold medal after losing in the final of Tokyo
18:562020 Games.
18:57In this context, although Argentina is among the favorites to finish at the top of the
19:01podium, the Dutch team makes the road ahead for the South American nation even more difficult,
19:07since it has dominated the history of women's Olympic field hockey with nine medals overall.
19:13In turn, Las Leonas have three second places and two third places under their belt, as
19:19they head to the Paris tournament where 12 teams will compete for the gold medal.
19:26I think we are very dedicated players.
19:34That's what they teach us here.
19:36Humility, commitment, effort.
19:39We know that the key to being where we are is always training.
19:42So we all know that we train here.
19:44We train one session, two sessions, three sessions all year round."
19:49Las Leonas are always on top.
19:53Like I said, there's a reason for that.
19:56We put in a lot of effort, a lot of training, nothing comes for free, nobody gives us anything.
20:01It's pure hard work.
20:02It's really about putting the shirt above everything else.
20:05It's a lot of love for the shirt.
20:07So to fulfill my wish, I would like the girls to give me the best Olympics of my life, which
20:11of course will be the gold medal.
20:15On Tuesday, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called for the commitment
20:20to promote solidarity and work for peace in the context of the Paris 2024 Olympics.
20:25Bonjour and welcome to the 2024 Summer Olympic Games.
20:30The world gathers in Paris to celebrate the power of sport, to bring hope, to transcend
20:35cultures, to unite people, to promote mutual respect and fair play.
20:40These are also the ideals of the United Nations.
20:43In the spirit of the Olympic truce, I call on everyone to lay down their arms, build
20:49bridges, foster solidarity and strive for the ultimate goal, peace for all.
20:55I wish every success to the Olympians and Paralympians.
21:00You inspire us to dream bigger.
21:02May the Olympic flame light the path to a world of peace and harmony.
21:07In other topics, 13 years after her tragic death, British singer-songwriter Amy Winehouse's
21:13legacy lives on.
21:15The singer was found dead of accidental alcohol poisoning at the age of 27 in her London home
21:22on July 23, 2011.
21:25She was known for her deep, expressive contralto vocals and her electric-electrical mix of
21:31musical genres, including soul, rhythm and blues and jazz.
21:35During her short musical career, Winehouse received 23 awards from 60 nominations, including
21:41six Grammy Awards, four Ivor Novello Awards, four MTV Europe Music Awards, three MTV Video
21:48Music Awards and three World Music Awards.
21:51On 13 February 2012, she was ranked 26th on VH1's list of the 100 Greatest Women in Music.
22:01Her premature death serves as a cautionary tale about the toll of stardom.
