00:00I'm not allowed to comment about an individual matter, I know that admissible evidence is
00:05being gathered.
00:07In the event that someone in her circumstances is found to have done the wrong thing, they
00:12will be banned from the scheme.
00:14So your own office referred this to the NDAA and the Commission a year ago.
00:19It was only after the ABC asked questions a month ago that they started formally investigating.
00:24Is that okay?
00:25I think that when the Safeguards Commission was set up, it was an unloved child.
00:30Since we've come in, we've had a change in the leadership.
00:34We have increased the workforce at the Safeguards Commission to about 1,000 people from where
00:39it was, just over 400, so we've doubled it.
00:41I accept there's still a problem with getting through all the complaints, that's true.
00:46The very fact that the Minister refers and it still takes ages for it to get done is
00:50problematic but we are moving through it.
00:53Do you think part of the fact that this wasn't looked at is because $300,000 isn't that much
00:58in terms of the alleged overcharging that we're seeing in the scheme?
01:01I think it's an obscene amount.
01:03I don't think that amount is a small amount at all, I think that's shocking and I think
01:07it does deserve attention.
01:10And I know that we're gathering the evidence in that matter and other matters and if it
01:15stacks up, people will be banned.
