00:00The relationship was not a teacher to a boss, and we're much more than that.
00:17And she keeps telling me how he's pursuing her and shower her with all his attention.
00:23They finally have sexual intercourse.
00:27They were involved in these sexual fantasies all over the school.
00:33This is steamy.
00:35This is Fifty Shades of Grey.
00:38What is going on in the schoolhouse?
00:42Do you see the picture?
00:51He lied to me.
00:54He ruined my life.
00:55It's about to be a showdown.
01:00It ended up being more serious than I thought it was going to be.
01:06I can't see my life without you.
01:10Oh my God, it's blood on my feet.
01:16The scene was ruined.
01:17Who would have a motive?
01:19Who is the killer?
01:20Did she love you enough to kill him?
01:23In stories like these, fairy tales rarely come true.
01:50Luton Rouge has a small town feel, you know, the metropolitan area, probably a half a billion
01:56people.
02:00Two major universities in the city, Louisiana State University and Southern University.
02:05The town has a real college feel to it.
02:08Lingering looks across desks, brushing up against each other near the coffee machine.
02:15Workplace affairs are common.
02:16They're exciting.
02:17They feel dangerous.
02:20But what happens when that danger becomes a reality?
02:39My position at Brookside Metal Magnet was that of assistant principal.
02:50Dr. Robert Marks was also assistant principal.
02:58And so we shared the same room.
03:00There was no divider.
03:04Every day we came in to work together, we talk, we spoke.
03:10His style was very laid back.
03:12You know, he would smile with the teachers and say, you know, I'm going to try to take
03:16care of that for you.
03:17And so he was a completely sweet person.
03:26And the students preferred to go to him for discipline issues than me because he was a
03:30little bit more lenient.
03:33He was one of those teachers that when we seen him in the hallways, he would wave at
03:38us, just made jokes, asked us if we want popsicles and things like that.
03:44He was just overall a really nice guy.
03:54Robert Marks was very well respected, had a PhD in education and had a family.
04:03His wife was Kayla Marks.
04:06I had never met Kayla.
04:08They were going through this separation.
04:11There are times that he brought his sons up to the school, but the wife, mm-mm.
04:18And so it wasn't really a good marriage.
04:23Robbie was trying to move on from there.
04:28He was really interested in finding someone to, you know, share love with.
04:34Love, real love.
04:36Yeah.
04:41Well, I met Lintel Washington, I think we were 19.
04:51We were in college.
04:54She's a teacher at Brookstown and she was just really big on education.
05:02I was in the eighth grade when she taught my history class.
05:08We had a lot of different characters in our class at the time.
05:14She didn't frown.
05:16She was smiling.
05:17She had amazing energy and she just made everybody feel welcome.
05:25But if there ever was a person where life wasn't fair, it is her.
05:31Her father was abusive, so she was married very young, but the marriage was just to get
05:37her out that very strict household.
05:42Two weeks after the marriage, they go their separate ways.
05:47Eventually, she would meet Darren Glasper.
05:54They broke up when she was eight months pregnant.
05:58She delivers her daughter by herself.
06:09She was a single parent at the time that I met her.
06:13She was, I believe, embarrassed about her financial state.
06:17She didn't really talk much about it.
06:21She never asked me for any financial assistance or help, but I knew that she was struggling.
06:28She was interested in trying to find somebody to help her and her daughter financially.
06:37She was looking for the perfect person for her situation.
06:42She was desperately looking.
06:46Quite a few times where she went on a couple of dates and, you know, she would come back
06:50and like, girl, he's poor.
06:55Most of the men that she dated had not even been to college, you know.
06:59It's like she just couldn't find anyone who was this French charming.
07:21When she first got the job at the school, she goes into the interview and there's a
07:29guy in there, this assistant principal by the name of Robert Marks.
07:41And she calls and she says, I know I have this job.
07:46Homeboy liked what he saw.
07:48Looked like he saw God.
07:49Couldn't stop staring at me.
07:51Got that job.
07:52I know.
07:57The next day she calls and she says, what I told you?
08:01Sister girl, I have the job.
08:03What did I tell you?
08:06And I said, oh, he really liked what he saw.
08:09She shows me a picture of Robert Marks and it's like a work picture.
08:15And so I say, oh, he's nice looking.
08:24She keeps telling me how he would, you know, shower her with all his attention and compliments.
08:30You know, he really likes her.
08:33You know, sometimes he would sit in the back of the classroom and he would say, you know,
08:39he would sit in the back of the classroom and watch her.
08:46She asked him, aren't you married?
08:49And so eventually he says he's going through a divorce with, you know, with kids.
08:55It's a custody battle.
08:56It's a, it's an ugly divorce.
08:58He doesn't want to lose custody of his kids.
09:03Robert and Kayla have two kids.
09:04Custody battles are really tough on families, on the parents and the kids.
09:09The kids end up getting used as pawns.
09:12And that's when things get really ugly.
09:17Him and his wife was staying in this big house.
09:19And the house was so huge that they were living in different sections of the house.
09:25They didn't sleep together.
09:26They were not together.
09:27He kind of did what he wanted to do.
09:29The marriage had been done with.
09:31They're just in the house like robots, just performing,
09:34just doing tasks and not talking to each other and not speaking.
09:40And I said, he's coming out of this marriage and he's moving into something so quickly.
09:48I mean, what is he saying about that?
09:49She says that his marriage had been over.
09:52This is not fast for him.
09:54This is him getting some sense of happiness.
10:01She began to form this friendship and they started dating.
10:11Now she's starting to pick from a better pile.
10:16She has never dated anyone of that caliber with a PhD.
10:27He's a doctor.
10:28He's Dr. Robert Marks.
10:30Lentell was telling me about how, you know, he had money and he had this large house and
10:36she had never dated a man that had that level of status.
10:40You know, Dr. Marks is doing pretty good in life.
11:01They finally have sexual intercourse.
11:08And she's telling me about how they're in this bathroom.
11:19They're on the sink and while they're being intimate, their arm, it hits the faucet
11:28and it turns the water on high and they're still going at it.
11:38And she's telling me about how they're in this bathroom.
11:50The water is just spewing.
11:53She tells me, girl, and I'm like, girl, this is 50 shades of gray.
11:58What is going on in the schoolhouse?
12:02And I'm sitting there like, oh my goodness.
12:04I had to clutch my invisible pearls because this is steamy and no one knows.
12:209-1-1 emergency.
12:23Hello?
12:26My gosh.
12:28I'll never forget it.
12:29We started learning more horrific details.
12:40We quickly realized that something sinister had happened.
12:44All three had a motive to murder.
12:48So it's truly a mystery.
13:00Lyndell Washington and Robert Marks were co-workers.
13:03But the relationship that Lyndell Washington and Robert Marks had
13:06was not a teacher to a boss.
13:09Lyndell Washington and Robert Marks were much more than that.
13:18Robert Marks is going through this divorce.
13:22No one in the school knows about this relationship.
13:26They kind of had this little secret where they know that they just spent the night together
13:31and they're laughing like they make eye contact.
13:36And so I think it's the excitement that he was giving her.
13:41They were involved in these sexual fantasies all over the school
13:46and they were doing this and doing that.
13:53One day she calls on the phone and she says,
13:58guess what?
14:00I'm like, what?
14:01She said, are you sitting down or standing up?
14:05I said, should I sit?
14:07She said, sit down.
14:08She said, well, I'm pregnant.
14:10I said, what?
14:12I didn't believe her.
14:14You had a daughter three years earlier and now you're pushing 40
14:19and you're pregnant.
14:20Like, who gets pregnant at 40, right?
14:23I asked her, I said, well, what did Robert Marks say?
14:27Oh, he's happy.
14:31And he expressed how much he was in love with her.
14:35He's happy about the pregnancy.
14:43He would spend nights at Lentell's apartment.
14:48He would take Lentell and her daughter on trips
14:52and they would go places together.
14:54You know, they went apartment searching.
14:57She finally had found somebody who would take care of her.
15:03He loved her and that they were going to be a family.
15:08He loved her and that they were going to be a family.
15:16If Robert's wife, Kayla, discovered that Lentell
15:18and her husband had been having an affair this whole time,
15:21imagine the rage she would feel both towards Robert and Lentell.
15:27Who knows what Kayla might do to save her family?
15:37Lentell is working summer school and she calls and she's frantic.
15:54And I said, Lentell, calm down.
15:58She tells me that she had heard from Robert Marks.
16:03I was at the school in the office with the head principal
16:07and it was told to me by the head principal that Dr. Marks left
16:14and went to a family reunion.
16:18She said it's been two days.
16:20I hadn't heard from him because he was talking to her every day.
16:23Remember, he's available.
16:24He's present.
16:26He's not missing her calls.
16:28She can call him.
16:30And so when he didn't respond, she starts to get paranoid.
16:41And so she began to think that he was trying to dodge his responsibility.
16:45And so she sends him a text message and saying,
16:47why aren't you answering the phone?
16:49Are you trying to dodge your responsibility with me?
16:52Are you leaving because you don't want to have to take care of me and this baby?
16:56And so she was blowing his phone up, blowing his phone up, blowing his phone up.
16:59No answer.
17:02And so she started to look him up on Facebook
17:04and started to try to find his Facebook account.
17:08Well, in that, she was able to find the Facebook account of the wife.
17:14She tells me to go to Facebook.
17:16She says, type in Kayla Marks.
17:21Robert Marks' wife.
17:24And when I get to Kayla Marks' Facebook profile, it's not set to private.
17:29It's open.
17:33And so I click it.
17:36And there's this picture of Kayla Marks and Robert Marks
17:42posing for the camera together on the cruise.
17:47And she says, do you see the picture?
17:50She said, does this look like a couple that's going through a divorce?
17:57Does it look like they're going through a divorce?
18:01And I said, no.
18:09When Lantell finds this huge red flag, she can no longer believe it.
18:13When Lantell finds this huge red flag she can no longer ignore,
18:16here's a photo of Robert on vacation with his wife.
18:21She's really furious.
18:23And at this point, she probably wants to hurt him as much as he's hurting her.
18:36Lantell has this fairytale dream of this man she's fallen in love with.
18:40Lantell Washington is now pregnant.
18:42And it's Robert Marks' child.
18:45He told Lantell Washington that he was going to leave his wife,
18:48that he would be part of this kid's life.
18:54But this wasn't true at all.
18:55Robert Marks was never going to leave his wife.
19:00She thought she had something.
19:02And so when she found out that she didn't and that everything was a lie,
19:06it just all started to crumble from there.
19:11She then goes into straight FBI, CIA, investigative mode.
19:19And so she finds out where he lives.
19:21And then once she gets the address, she calls me.
19:24And she tells me this plan of, I'm going to see where he lives.
19:28I'm going to his house.
19:29And I'm going to let that wife know.
19:32I said, don't do that.
19:34I said, Lynn, please.
19:36This is a wife.
19:37She doesn't know anything.
19:39Someone shows up at my house with a big belly,
19:42talking about that's my husband's child.
19:45I mean, I'm not opening that door with some type of patience.
19:49She would be definitely upset and angry.
19:53Kayla Marks had all of these things in her face, blaring in her face.
19:56But she never really knew what was happening and going on.
20:00Death is nowhere near my mind.
20:01But my mind was just plagued with thoughts of how she might be hurt.
20:09Sunday morning, Mintel calls me.
20:24At this time, she's hysterical.
20:28She says, are you ready for this?
20:35He lied to me.
20:37He lied.
20:38She said, I went to the house.
20:43I said, what house?
20:46She says, I went to the house.
20:48Listen to me.
20:49I went to the house.
20:50I went to the house.
20:54I said, what happened?
20:57She said, it's not a two-story house.
21:02She says, it's a trailer.
21:05She says, a goddamn trailer.
21:09And I'm thinking, the Dr. Robert Marks is in a trailer?
21:17Not him?
21:20He just painted this picture of being this wealthy man with this big, large home.
21:28He had money.
21:29She thought that she was getting ready to have access to that life.
21:33And so when she saw a trailer, it infuriated her.
21:41Because that trailer was a symbol of poverty.
21:46She already was struggling with the current baby.
21:49And so now, only thing she saw was struggle.
21:52All of her hopes for love, and he loved me, and this and that, is gone.
21:57Now it's just more struggle.
21:58Now it's more problems, more headache.
22:01She's having a baby for a married man.
22:05You can't undo that.
22:07He tarnished her character.
22:10The baby is here.
22:12And so she said, I can't walk in the church.
22:16This baby is for a married man.
22:24So she's pissed.
22:25And this is not about love anymore.
22:27At this point, I know what I'm doing.
22:29At this point, I know what this is.
22:31She wasn't even in the mode of, let he and I work it out, and we'll still be together.
22:35That wasn't her mode.
22:35Her mode was, this is over.
22:38And your life is just not going to continue on.
22:40I mean, she was angry.
22:43And I'm talking about mad.
22:46She's crying, and she tells me, she said, I'm going back to the house tonight.
22:51I'm going to tell his wife.
22:52I'm going to tell his wife.
22:54He thinks he's going to ruin my life, and move on, and go on with his life.
22:59You ruined my life.
23:00He ruined my life.
23:16And then tell she was crying, she was yelling.
23:29She's having a baby for a married man.
23:35And so when Robert comes back from the cruise, she said, you think I should meet him face to face?
23:42And I said, oh, you need to meet him face to face.
23:46That way you can see in his eyes.
23:48Because the eyes are the lampposts to the soul.
23:50You'll know if he's lying.
23:51I told her that.
23:53And she said, OK.
23:57So Wednesday night, she went to go meet him.
24:05It's about to be a showdown between Robert and Lentell, because she's finally getting
24:10her chance to confront him for all of the lies that he's been telling this entire time.
24:20So she sets up this meeting with Robert Marks at a Walmart about 20 minutes north of the city
24:24of Baton Rouge, which is completely the opposite end of where Lentell Washington lived.
24:32Lentell was definitely upset and angry.
24:36She wanted revenge.
24:37She would say, you're not going to just walk away after you've made me pregnant.
24:41And your life is just not going to continue on into the smooth bliss when you've done this to me.
24:50Robert Marks did not want his wife to find out that he had impregnated a teacher at the school.
24:56Robert Marks was so scared that somebody he had lied to would tell the truth.
25:01And for Robert Marks and Lentell Washington, there was not going to be a happy ending.
25:32So
25:50on that morning, I was actually transporting patients to and from their medical appointments.
25:56And as I was pulling into the parking lot, I did notice a young girl.
26:02She was just standing there between the vehicles holding a pillow.
26:09No one was around in the area, no adults.
26:17So I asked her, where were her parents? And she just kind of like,
26:21with tears in her eyes, you know, just kind of quiet and reserved.
26:27Who's your mom? And that's when I noticed the blood on her feet.
26:37I asked her, where's her mom's car? So at that point, I did alert 911.
26:53You hurt your foot? That's why you're bleeding?
26:56You have blood on your foot because you hurt it?
27:01I don't feel good about this.
27:07Oh my gosh.
27:11There's blood on the front seat of the car.
27:14Okay, stay on the phone with me, okay? What kind of vehicle is it?
27:17It's a Toyota Corolla.
27:19There's a lot of blood?
27:20It's a sizable amount of blood. Looks like somebody, something happened.
27:32The Children's Advocacy Center is a center that has trained counselors that are
27:39specifically coached on how to get the most information out of a child.
27:43They give the kids coloring sheets,
27:45things to do to take their mind off of the horrible trauma that they witnessed.
27:50Where's mommy? Is mommy in the lake?
28:04Yes.
28:05Who hurt mommy?
28:07Mr. Robbie.
28:08Mr. Robbie?
28:14Who put blood in the car?
28:16Mr. Robbie.
28:17What did you hear?
28:19I didn't.
28:20When mommy got hurt?
28:22Yes.
28:23What did you hear with your ears?
28:25My ears!
28:27Did you see Mr. Robbie hurt mommy?
28:30Yes, ma'am.
28:33The young child says Mr. Robbie caused this blood. He made the blood.
28:38Nobody has any idea at this point who Mr. Robbie is.
28:42They found Lentell's car, and they found her baby, but no Lentell.
28:50I get there, and I'm talking to the police officer.
28:54The police are like, do you know who Mr. Robbie is?
28:57And I said, Mr. Robbie, Mr. Robbie.
28:59I said, Mr. Robbie from work?
29:02So I'm like, they were dating.
29:04They had a baby.
29:05So the police immediately get to rolling.
29:12Robert Marks is brought into an interview room.
29:18Robert Marks admits to being with her on the night that she disappears.
29:23He says, we met out near the Walmart, and we're together a short period of time.
29:31Then she left and went her way, and I left and went to watch the basketball game with friends.
29:38Robert Marks was the only suspect.
29:40But the fact that her body has not been discovered makes it extremely difficult to prosecute that case.
29:54There were police on four-wheelers.
29:56There were police on the ground with dogs.
29:58At least 100 police officers, a helicopter.
30:01This was a massive search that lasted for days.
30:05Time is really of the essence.
30:08We knew we were dealing with a homicide, but in the absence of a body, we couldn't prove it.
30:17Did Robert Marks do something to Lentell?
30:20I couldn't put my mind around that he was involved in a homicide.
30:26Did Robert Marks do something to Lentell?
30:28I couldn't put my mind around that he had done something to her,
30:32because he was such a quiet, calm, cool person.
30:36So I don't believe that he was a killer.
30:40And then police got their big break.
30:44A woman picks him up from a gas station not far from this parking lot,
30:49where this little girl is found wandering around covered in blood.
30:52And a security camera picked up the whole thing.
30:56But who is this woman?
30:59I'm thinking Kayla Marks may have done something.
31:03I'm thinking, oh my goodness, a wife snapped.
31:07This woman picks him up, and now she's the getaway driver.
31:12Robert Marks parks this car near Lentell Washington's apartment complex.
31:24He picks up the phone and he calls the woman and says, hey, I need a ride.
31:33And she says, no, I don't need a ride, I'm going to Lentell.
31:37Hey, I need a ride.
31:44A woman picks him up from a gas station.
31:47But who is this woman?
31:58My name is Trameka Jackson.
32:00I was the last person that was with him that night.
32:05Trameka Jackson is watching the news.
32:08And then we get to the part where we had Robert Marks as a key suspect in this case,
32:12named by the Baton Rouge Police Department.
32:15But Trameka Jackson goes, wait, I picked Robert Marks up
32:19at a racetrack gas station not far from this parking lot.
32:23And they said the name of the street, and they said like the day that they found the little girl.
32:30The little girl, and my heart dropped instantly.
32:36I did go and talk to the detectives.
32:39Trameka Jackson coming forward and saying where she picked this man up,
32:44destroyed any alibi he had.
32:47She also realized that Robert Marks was not just her boyfriend.
32:52He's Lentell Washington's boyfriend.
32:54And he's the husband to Caleb Marks.
32:56So she must feel betrayed.
32:58She certainly has to feel lied to.
33:00He used me.
33:02How could I have let him just manipulate me and me not see through who he really was?
33:30On the day that this body was recovered, a worker was coming down this road,
33:35tending to the sugarcane fields, and realizes there's a body here.
33:45But the body was badly decomposed, unable to be identified.
33:50DNA tests confirmed the identity of Lentell.
33:56Also confirmed that the baby that she was carrying,
33:59the baby girl that she was carrying, was fathered by Robert Marks.
34:11They tell us that they found Lentell.
34:17And then he says she's deceased.
34:20And I remember, you know, my husband caught me.
34:25And then he moved me to a bench.
34:26And I'm just crying, like, there's no way.
34:29How? How? How is she dead?
34:31What are you saying?
34:40Robert Marks was arrested for the murder of Lentell Washington.
34:44The case went to trial in December of 2021.
34:48The entire investigation pointed to one motive.
34:52Robert Marks seduced Lentell Washington.
34:56She became pregnant.
34:57He pretends to be thrilled that they're having this child.
35:02What she doesn't know, and it came out in trial,
35:05he is doing internet searches on how to murder a pregnant girlfriend.
35:12This guy is a special kind of evil.
35:14You're Googling how to kill a pregnant woman using bleach.
35:18You're looking up male feces.
35:20You're trying to look up guns.
35:21You're pulling up old cases of a pregnant woman and a three-year-old
35:24being shot to death and killed.
35:26This is what he was looking up.
35:31When they meet across from the Walmart,
35:33Robert Marks drives up on his motorcycle.
35:36He leaves his motorcycle and gets into the car.
35:39He's driving.
35:40He's driving.
35:41He's driving.
35:41He's driving.
35:42He's driving.
35:42He's driving.
35:43He's driving.
35:43He's driving.
35:44Into the car with Lentell Washington.
35:59They travel from there, maybe a 15-minute drive,
36:02to a secluded area near the Baton Rouge City Police
36:07and East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office pistol range.
36:10Robert Marks shoots Lentell Washington at this gun range.
36:16And then he dropped Lentell's body in a small ditch at the back of a cane field.
36:40Robert Marks drives Lentell Washington's car back to Lentell's neighborhood
36:45on the south side of Baton Rouge, not even to her apartment complex, just near it.
36:53And there's still somebody else in the car with him.
36:56This three-year-old little girl, Lentell Washington's daughter.
37:05He left that little girl alive.
37:10And that little girl witnessed the murder of her mother.
37:24His biggest mistake was leaving his cell phone on,
37:26because that cell phone followed his every move.
37:29And he was busy that night.
37:31Police were literally able, with the help of the cell phone provider,
37:35to point dots on the road where their phones traveled together.
37:40It's always good to have the evidence that we had,
37:45the phone records that we had, the video evidence that we had.
37:48We know also that his wife and Trameka Jackson, they were not involved.
37:56But the video testimony of the child was extremely important,
38:01very powerful for a jury to hear.
38:17I've never seen a jury come back with a verdict any quicker, ever, ever, ever, ever.
38:23The jury was out back in 30 minutes.
38:26In 30 minutes.
38:30He was found guilty of the murder.
38:33He was found guilty of the feticide, of kidnapping.
38:37It was a whole litany of things he was found guilty of.
38:47Robert was able to fool all the women in his life.
38:50But the one person he couldn't fool was Lentell's three-year-old daughter.
38:56Lentell's three-year-old daughter was found guilty of the feticide.
39:00This basically boiled down to what a little child had to say
39:04and what she witnessed Mr. Robbie do to her mother.
39:09And that little girl told detectives everything that he had done.
39:14And that little girl is what sealed his fate and locked him up for the rest of his life.
39:20She's a phenomenal young lady.
39:22She's very smart.
39:23She's very educated.
39:25Everything about her reminds me of her mama.
39:28I love my baby girl.
39:30And I'm just grateful that God seemed fit to give me custody of her,
39:35that I can raise her and guide her and bring her up right.
39:46I am 10 years old.
39:51My favorite subject is math.
39:56What I like about math is, like, it's challenging.
40:01What I like doing with my friends is, like, I'll go by their house,
40:05and I ask if they can play, and we'll go outside and play.
40:09And we'll make videos.
40:15My nickname is Mookie.
40:18She calls me Mookie.
40:20Getting her nails done.
40:23Say hey.
40:26She is this beautiful little girl that is this miracle baby.
40:31And the little girl looks just like Lintel.
40:40Yes, I remember that one time, like, I was probably around seven or six.
40:46And I was in the bathroom, like,
40:50just washing my face and brushing my teeth, because it was morning.
40:54And he came in here, and he said,
40:55do you want to see a picture of your mom?
40:57And I said, yeah, sure.
40:59So he showed me a picture of my mom,
41:01and she had, like, a Mardi Gras mask on, and she was smiling.
41:06It was so beautiful.
41:12On the surface, you had what was the most perfect couple.
41:16There were text messages saying,
41:18I can't see my life without you.
41:20The romance was fast and furious.
41:23Sex all night long.
41:27But wait, didn't he get married?
41:30That's where everything turned.
41:33This double life that she was leading just blew up in her face.
41:37She was hysterical.
41:40He actually was worried about his life.
41:42All three of them cannot survive together.
41:46Somebody has to go.
41:48Looks like somebody's dead outside in the yard.
41:50Stabbed over 30 times.
41:53The scene was brutal.
41:55It was not something we're used to seeing.
41:57Die! Die!
42:00The most evil.
42:02It still haunts that community to this day.
42:06All this because of a love triangle.
