A61 Wakefield: Statement by Supt Alan Travis from West Yorkshire Police as six killed in horror crash near Barnsley

00:00Good afternoon, I'm Alan Travis, Superintendent from Wakefield District Police.
00:08On Sunday, 21st July at 3.54pm, emergency services received a call reporting a collision
00:16on the A61 near to Staincross between Wakefield and Barnsley.
00:22Emergency services attended and established there had been a collision between a motor
00:27vehicle and a motorcycle.
00:31The car involved was a Ford Focus and contained four people, a man, a woman and two girls.
00:39The motorcycle was being driven by a man and a woman.
00:45Very sadly, all six people died at the scene.
00:50This is obviously a tragic incident with a devastating loss of life.
00:57Specialist police officers are supporting the family of the deceased and I would ask
01:04that their privacy be respected at this time.
01:08The road between Warren Lane and Shaw Lane was currently closed and will remain so for
01:16some time.
01:18This has obviously also been an extremely tragic incident for the officers and emergency
01:23services that attended the scene and I would like to pass out my thanks to officers from
01:28West Yorkshire and also South Yorkshire who supported us as well as West and South Fire
01:35and Rescue Services and the Yorkshire Ambulance Service.
01:41My hearts go out to the family and loved ones who have lost people in this incident.
01:45This is a truly horrendous collision which are currently in the early stages of investigating.
